Only as long as they aren't $texas. I do fine in the morning with some folgers' and half & half.

For some reason, small amounts of sugar make the coffee taste like acid, if you add enough sugar, it masks the coffee. I just like some half & half, it mellows the flavor a little bit, but you can still taste the smooth palatable flavor of coffee.

So what's the best brand of flavored syrups, and where can I buy a bottle?

I want to make my own vanilla lattes at home, and I refuse to believe Torani has the best vanilla syrup. I don't know which is better, though, Monin or Da Vinci (or some other). If either of them have good sugar free vanilla syrups, that would rock. Do coffee shops sell by the bottle at non-exorbitant markups, or should I be looking at high-end grocers like the Fresh Market? Harris Teeter only has Torani.

Also, my espresso maker at home is too old... the seal on the pressure cap is getting worn out to where I can still brew the espresso, but when I try to froth the milk, the steam leaks from the cap instead of the frothing spout. Any recommendations on a cheap frother or new espresso machine that's half-decent but all-cheap?


I looked for Frosh's old coffee thread because I know these things were discussed, but I think that thread got purged.

Sam's Club has DaVinci for $4 or $5 per bottle. I think they have sugar free vanilla.

yeah, most coffee shops do sell by the bottle. I believe for Torani, the going rate is $8/bottle. For Monin, it is upwards of $10-$12/bottle.

A Southern Season has Monin syrups, not many to choose from but they are having their annual super sale right now so you should be able to get their vanilla syrup pretty cheap.
