I am currently feeling a sense of reserved excitement. I cannot wait to see where this goes but in the back of my mind I hear, "We're still State." Here's to hoping this turns out as well as it should.

There's definitely a difference this time in how I'm feeling...

-I was always excited when Herb got recruits but man, he was boring and we all knew it.
-I was always excited when Lowe got recruits but he was unproven as a college coach so there was that question mark.
-I'm definitely a bit more excited now just because this guy won at Alabama...he's done it before at a football school no less...

"T.J. Warren commits to Wolfpack
By Dave Telep
ESPN Recruiting

T.J. Warren, the 23rd-rated player in the latest ESPNU Top 100, committed to North Carolina State on Wednesday, picking the Wolfpack over Georgetown.

NC State adds a scoring machine. ESPN Recruiting's Reggie Rankin breaks down what T.J. Warren means for the Wolfpack. Story

ESPN Recruiting's Dave Telep says new NC State coach Mark Gottfried has done a great job mining local talent. Story

"When I was growing up I went to a lot of games when Herb Sendek was the coach and Julius Hodge was there," said Warren, who goes to Brewster Academy in Wolfboro, N.H. "I've always been a State fan."

Warren grew up less than 20 miles from the North Carolina State campus and his father played for the Wolfpack.

It is North Carolina State's third commitment from an ESPN Top 100 prospect.

Warren transferred to Brewster Academy this fall but played three seasons of high school basketball in Durham and Raleigh. Warren visited NC State officially last month and, following his trip, felt like the Wolfpack separated itself.

"When I made the decision it just felt right," Warren said. "It was that feeling inside and I've been having that feeling for a long time." Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried's first full season on the recruiting trail yielded a top five class. The centerpiece is shooting guard Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, N.C./Upper Room) who is ranked No. 16 in the senior class. Tyler Lewis (Statesville, N.C./Oak Hill Academy) committed to Sidney Lowe but the new staff was able to keep his commitment; Lewis is rated No. 69 in the senior class.

The best part will be when Warren and Purvis are ultimately passed up for the McD's game so UNC can get all four of its guys in.

"T.J. Warren will be a matchup nightmare

The NC State Wolfpack are adding a scoring machine with the commitment of 6-7, 205-pound small forward T.J. Warren (Durham, N.C./Brewster Academy) who is No. 23 overall in the ESPNU 100 and No. 6 among small forwards. New NC State coach Mark Gottfried will have many scoring options by moving Warren around on the offensive end of the floor where he will present matchup problems for opposing perimeter players.

[+] Enlarge
Courtesy Dave Telep
T.J. Warren is the No. 23 overall player in the 2012 class.
The strong and physical Warren can get buckets in a variety of ways. He attacks the rim on the break, creates shots and sets up drives off the dribble with his tremendous shot fake. Plus, he understands how to utilize screens in order to get open, hits midrange jumpers off the catch and punishes smaller perimeter defenders in the low post where he welcomes and scores through contact on a consistent basis.

Expect Warren to become a more consistent threat from behind the arc as well and learn to become a better defender once he is with the Wolfpack coaching staff on a full time basis which will take his already very productive game to the next level.

The Wolfpack have some big-time offense on the way and they all are from North Carolina so far. In addition to Warren, Gottfried is bringing in shooting guard Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, N.C./Upper Room Christian Academy), who is a rim-attacking scorer, and Tyler Lewis (5'11, 165, Statesville, NC/Oak Hill Academy), who is a true point guard and the best passer I have seen in the 2012 class.

Wolfpack fans will have plenty to cheer about with this talented homegrown group of players."

"Amile Jefferson transitioning to the wing

By Reggie Rankin

I had a great conversation with ESPNU 100 power forward Amile Jefferson (Philadelphia/Friends Central), who is No. 24 overall and No. 8 at his position. We discussed what he has been working on to improve his game and he also gave me a recruiting update.

Davide De Pas for ESPN.com
Amile Jefferson is the No. 24 overall player in the 2012 class.
This blue collar forward plays extremely hard and competes on both ends of the floor. Jefferson runs the floor effortlessly, has a nice touch around the basket and is terrific at scoring along the baseline. He is an improved driver and shooter, a top-notch rebounder in and out of his area and a good shot blocker because of his length, athletic ability and quickness to the ball.

"I have been working on making the transition from the post to the wing. I have put a lot of time in working on putting the ball on the floor and my midrange jumper. I am very confident right now out to about 18 feet and I am hitting the rythym 3 while still working to be more consistent," Jefferson said.

As far as recruiting goes, he has three official visits under his belt. Jefferson has checked out Connecticut, Ohio State and Kentucky and he is scheduled to visit NC State this weekend and Stanford in two weeks. Jefferson said that local powers Villanova and Temple are also in the mix.

"I will sit down with my family after the visits are complete and decide which school is the best fit me and it's very possible that I will sign early too. I want to make sure I am comfortable with the coaching staff, find a school that I could go to if I was not going to play basketball and find the best opportunity to play and a playing style that fits," he said.

Jefferson without a doubt has the work ethic on and off the floor to be very successful."

Anyone know if any of our commits will be on hand this weekend for the festivities and to talk to Jefferson? Hoping at least Purvis and Lewis can make it, ideally all 3 would be in attendance to help pitch State to him.

I think Amile will play at stanford, based on some things he has said:

Wants a school that he would choose if he was not a basketball player ... translation ... since I am getting a scholarship, I want it to really get me somewhere in life vs just some po-dunk edu institution.

Wants to play the 3 ... we need him as a 4 more than a 3, honestly ... but I think we still want him because TJ and Rodney could be gone after 2 years realistically, and so having someone who has 3 years experience at that time at the 3 would still be to our advantage. Its just more crowded at NCSU at the 3 spot with this class plus wood and brown on the roster.
