Had he been offered, he would have taken it. James at Packpride had Lavin calling him asking him if he's still under consideration for the job....two days after ESPN claimed he supposedly turned us down.

AD Yow has had the time to assess the current situation and should have had time to make a qualified decision regarding the future of NCSU basketball.

IMO, Les was a better coach than Sidney. Les had his hands tied behind his back in regards to the coaching job he was given. He was told, "Academics and Discipline first and second, basketball results third." 90% of his players wouldn't have even been recruited by our current staff.

And he could beat Carolina.

Seeing most of his games, I'm almost certain Les was a better coach. He also made the NCAA Tournament at both East Tennessee State and NC State. The issues he dealt with here are thoroughly documented.

I appreciate what Sid accomplished here as a player, but God these last five years have been brutal. This season and the Hickson season were huge wastes of talent and opportunity especially this year with how terrible the ACC is as a whole.

I wonder who is more apt at wasting talent - Sidney Lowe or Erik Spoelstra?

I just read the last page, but there are a couple thing sthat needed to be pointed out. Regardless of whathappened with Lavin, there's no need to act like Lavin isn't doing just fine. I have no idea why anyone would be so persistent in telling everyone we did/ did not offer him. Who cares, he's much better off. Watching paint dry is more relevant than discussing Lavin.

Robinson was ten times the coach Sidney is. You guys are basing this off wins and losses. Robinson's talent was nil, we self imposed higher academic requirements, i.e. half the guys we have today would have never been eligible to play here. How'd Lowe look without Tracy/Brown/Leslie? Robinson also swept UNC the same year thewy went to the final four. The next time we sweep UNC in a year they make the final four everyone on this website will be deceased. Les' teams also attemtped to rebound and play team defense. The early-mid 90's was also the hey day of the ACC. Duncan, Stackhouse, Wallace, Joe Smith, Kenny Anderson, Marbury, Hurley, Laettner, Hill, etc.

It was more of a comparison to today's ACC to make note of the difference in the talent that Sidney faces in the ACC today as opposed to what Les faced in the 92 season (Duke and UNC always being good but MD/UVA/G Tech were top 25 teams then). I'd still put the early-mid 90's guys up against most anyone. Stackhouse, Wallace, Marbury, Anderson, Smith all played 2 or fewer seasons. Laettner and Duncan are the 4 year guys, and I'd say they did about as much as they could. If I included the late 90's (which I didn't originally, just the Les era) you'd have two more Naismith POY's in Jamison (jr.) and Brand (Soph) and one in the making (Battier).

I believe NyM said before though no personal attacks on coach Lowe. I'd say 95% of all users can agree on that, and it's reasonable considering his history as a player and his likable personality in general.

His coaching abilities however, are fair game.
