what a shit night at work last night...dude has a MRSA brain abscess.... from having brain surgery for a ruptured aneurysm.........in the 16 days he's been in the hospital he hasnt had a seizure...... til last night..........ugh

10pm grand mal seizure...wtf.........wtFUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!! stat CatScan.....tells us nothing

get back from the scan.........grand mal seizure push an amp of bicarb, load with dilantin, fight with the EEG people...place subclavian central line...draw blood cultures x 2..get them to come in and hook him up to EEG.........put in new foley cath.....in the middle of a complex partial seizure.........hour later.......yet another grand mal seizure....ice bath time!! ......fuckin a!!

all of this on top of juggling eleventy BILLION antibiotics and incompatible electrolyte supplements PLUS emptying and measuring the output from a vancomycin irrigation infusion every hour on the hour.

on top of titrating 2 vasopressors to keep dudes blood pressure between 190 and 210 systolic

on top of most importantly hovering over said patient to make sure he doesnt stop breathing from seizing so much........he was one seizure away from buying a breathing tube.

incompatible meaning it will crystalize when combined in the same IV line and fuck up your world....



you can only run so many hours on pure adrenaline before you just..................crash...................i was tempted to sleep in a corner of the break room...........didnt think i had enough energy to make it to my car.

and despite being thoroughly exhausted.........i am too keyed up to sleep

If you don't care enough to throw away the rotting food on the counters and in the refrigerator, why the fuck should I worry about scrubbing the floors, taking out the trash, doing all the dishes, and vacuuming the house?
