Christian laettner won a title. Everyone forgets him for some reason. Most famous college player of the 90s, NBA all-star, NBA champ, 2 time ncaa champ, 4 final fours, 2 of the best ncaa buzzer beaters in ncaa tournament history, possibly gay, stepped on someone, and a fabulous piano player. And no one remembers him, very weird.

It's a good feeling to see us right next to UNC on a recruits remaining schools. When is the last time we went head to head with Duke or UNC and beat one of them out for a recruit? Specifically instances where we were both on the final list of a star recruit. Having Duke or UNC pull their names out of the hat prematurely doesn't count.

10/4/2011 9:12:10 AM
^^^^I constantly see this question asked but can anyone actually give an answer? And it seems to me that Duke and UNC almost always pull their name out of the running for a recruit they are about to lose...unless it fills a position that they absolutely must have or it's a top 5 player. That way they can smugly say, "K/Roy saw something he didn't like. He had an attitude/temper/limp/mother that K/Roy knew would not mesh with the Duke/Carolina way." Fwiw, UNC already has a small forward committed for 2012 in 4-star J.P. Tokoto. But I'm sure they still have scholarship room available for Warren too.

Warren tidies up his listT.J. Warren (Durham, N.C./Brewster Academy) is down to four schools: NC State, North Carolina, Florida and Georgetown. On Monday, Warren texted me and said he’s no longer considering Kentucky. Exactly what does that mean? Did UK chop him from their list or did he slice the Wildcats? The answer lies somewhere in between. What happened to Warren -- or what happened with Kentucky depending on your point of view -- can be seen two ways. The gist of what happened is likely that Kentucky didn’t view Warren as a top tier small forward target. They are actively, heavily and with great zeal pursuing Shabazz Muhammad (Las Vegas/Bishop Gorman), Alex Poythress (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) and Devonta Pollard (DeKalb, Miss./Kemper County).“I just didn’t feel like I was their main guy,” Warren said. “And the communication wasn’t there.” Translation: the Wildcats either liked their other targets better (plausible given the headliners) or didn’t feel great about landing Warren or they didn’t put the same time and communication resources into T.J. for all of the above reasons.I tweeted on Monday night that “Kentucky no longer on the list.” I picked my words carefully. At the time, I didn’t know if UK had dropped T.J. or he’d dropped them. It’s this gray area that is often times difficult to discern. You try and do your best to report what happened but the reality is, the devil is in the details and the details can be tough to determine.

anyone else going to Upper Room tonight to watch Purvis play?
10/4/2011 12:35:02 PM
Speaking of NCSU fans going to watch Purvis play...It's really unfortunate that I feel like we have to continue to recruit Purvis. I don't feel like that because of Purvis specifically, and I do think he took his time in making his Verbal, but the recruiting landscape these days is so volatile. Kids take back their commitments all the time now, and it's really infuriating.
10/4/2011 1:24:44 PM
^Kids being kids. They love being the center of attention and having everyone hang on their every movement so much that they don't even realize just how much they are making themselves look like idiots. My favorites are the high school all star games where the top recruits will sit at a table with ball caps of two or three schools sitting out in front of them. The lengths and efforts those guys put in to tease people while making their decision... I saw one where the guy put on a ball cap of one team, waited for all the cheers to subside, then took the hat off to reveal that -gasp- he had a different team's cap on all along.I guess it all depends on the recruit, but with antics like that I don't think I'd miss the guy if they faked out the fan base to select a different team. Good riddance.[Edited on October 4, 2011 at 1:45 PM. Reason : 0-]
