^It usually is announced when it expires - you should have some time to react to it

How long until I get the AA 50k signup? I closed my account exactly a hour ago. I had a Visa then - looking at the Mastercard.I should be good, right?
7/25/2014 12:46:11 PM
Why on earth would you close an account right before trying to get another credit card?
7/25/2014 1:03:45 PM
Long day. Meant to say a year ago. Not an hour ago
7/25/2014 2:01:57 PM
from what I read, it doesn't matter if it was MC or Visa. Just that you had to wait at least 12 months from your last approval and for most people, 18-24 months. I'd think you're good.[Edited on July 25, 2014 at 2:37 PM. Reason : .]
7/25/2014 2:36:48 PM
I got both of them within 2 days
7/25/2014 5:29:17 PM
is there a particularly good airline miles offer/card going on right now? looking at buying some tickets soon
7/27/2014 1:22:32 PM
How soon and where ya headed?
7/27/2014 1:27:27 PM
7/27/2014 2:53:06 PM
yes, well technically it was different b/c one was mastercard and one was visa
7/27/2014 3:17:19 PM
7/27/2014 6:21:10 PM
Dunno if you can convert that spending into points that quick...and even if you can Youll probably have to spend $texas in points by the time they're available. Just get some cards now to build up for the future.
7/27/2014 7:01:04 PM
US air gives you miles after a single purchase, but a lot of times it not til your first statement hits so even if you applied tomorrow you'd still have to wait a month after that.
7/27/2014 7:17:32 PM
They waited 60 days until they gave me the 40k miles.
7/27/2014 10:40:36 PM
oh, i wasn't planning on trying to use points immediately...i was thinking about getting a card i can use for airline purchases so that i'll get superbonusawesomepoints (like 5 per $1 spent or whatever)...i also figured there were cards out there that gave bonus miles for signing up and spending x within the first couple of monthssorry, i should have clarified
7/28/2014 6:40:10 AM
Well, in that case, you'd want to get a card specific to the airline/hotel you'll be using
7/28/2014 10:49:53 AM
^^ Do you live in Raleigh? If so the Southwest cards are pretty compelling...Think their 50k point bonus point cards are still available,http://millionmilesecrets.com/credit-cards/airline-credit-cards/
7/28/2014 10:57:12 AM
How easy is it to cancel a card? I plan to cancel when I get my RR points into my account for one of my Southwest cards. I planned on keeping the other SW card but I guess I don't necessarily need it. Would you call to cancel one and then wait a bit to cancel the other? Or cancel both at the same time?
7/28/2014 11:53:15 AM
You just call and say you want to cancel it.I'd wait a little. Also a lot of times I leverage old cards for new ones and cancel them when I call the reco line.
7/28/2014 1:51:55 PM
7/29/2014 12:49:59 PM
I wouldn't get a card just to get extra (even 5x) points on spending for a single trip. Seems like you can net way more with sign-up/spend bonuses.]
7/29/2014 1:18:51 PM
Just applied for the hyatt diamond challenge
7/30/2014 2:26:31 PM
So I my AAdvantage card was declined because apparently the 50k was for first time sign up users.
7/30/2014 4:11:22 PM
Pulled from Flyertalk:
7/30/2014 4:14:41 PM
Yeah I just came across this. kept the account for about 6 months. It's been closed for a year now.Basically trying to find a card that will get me to/from Europe with a minimal annual fee.[Edited on July 30, 2014 at 4:23 PM. Reason : ]
7/30/2014 4:18:31 PM
I just applied for that one a few days ago so I remembered reading about it. That's why I was surprised that David0603 said he got both MC and Visa within two days.
7/30/2014 4:22:59 PM
^I think that policy started in August of 2013 and he did it before then
7/30/2014 4:26:33 PM
makes sense
7/30/2014 4:33:44 PM
Yeah, 11/6/2012 to be exact
7/30/2014 5:59:18 PM
Any CCs people recommend for getting enough points to go round trip to london? Sadly, I think I might be out of luck.
7/30/2014 7:30:21 PM
^ when?
7/30/2014 8:50:43 PM
probably gonna book it in February
7/30/2014 10:40:23 PM
7/31/2014 9:29:48 AM
Oh well you've got plenty of time then.I'm no expert in international travel (i bet ^ can help...though he doesn't appear interested in it at this point), but I'd think getting 2-3 Chase cards with ~50k bonuses might do the trick.]
7/31/2014 9:44:44 AM
^Not sure I'll be able to churn the card I want to (example; AA) by the time I need. That said - I'll be hella lucky if AA and US Airways miles accounts merge before the time I book
7/31/2014 11:08:39 AM
If you don't think you'll be able to spend the money fast enough, we can help with that. Easier than you think...google "manufactured spend" Amazon Payments is more people's current go-to, but there's all kinds of stuff out there.
7/31/2014 11:12:33 AM
Looks like Credit Karma now allows you to pull your full Transunion report weekly in addition to giving the usual generic score and summary.
7/31/2014 11:45:07 AM
it looks like Chase is changing quite a bit to their Sapphire Preferred program. Here is a link I was emailed this morning..https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?pg_name=ccpmapp/shared/marketing/page/ultimate-rewards-sapphire-preferred-vs-annoucement&jp_cmp=cc/94049/ema/EM03610/Body_image_1some of the big changes include:Cancelling 7% annual dividend at the end of 2015Cancelling 1 extra bonus point on travel booked through UR at the end of 2015Increased trip cancellation coverageIncreased rental car coverage
7/31/2014 12:06:31 PM
offer for existing Citi Mastercard holders:http://slickdeals.net/f/7099690-25-off-25-or-more-using-citi-wallet?v=1Newegg is one of the members, so basically a free 25 dollar gift card
7/31/2014 12:24:57 PM
^^^^It's not that - it's my ignorance. I'm not sure how churnable some of these cards will be so I worry I might not be able to get any of the big sign up bonuses.Spend has never been an issue
7/31/2014 12:47:35 PM
Churnable...as in open an account for a specific card, earn bonus, close card, open exact same card back up and earn the sign up bonus again? I don't know how much time you want to elapse between the closing and opening of an identical card...not sure there are any hard and fast rules about it. Perhaps Million Mile Secrets or a similar site has an article on that point. How many miles will you need, ballpark?]
7/31/2014 12:56:11 PM
I'm guessing about 60k+
7/31/2014 1:08:58 PM
7/31/2014 1:09:14 PM
I'd rather xfer pts vs redeem then for travel.I much prefer the ink bold over the sapphire.
7/31/2014 2:24:38 PM
Jrb599 grab a Citi AA card (40-50K signup bonus with spend) and also grab the SPG card from Amex (20K bonus with spend). Transfer the SPG points to AA (1:1 transfer +5K bonus) and that will give you enough for a round trip by Feb (as long as you can hit the spend).
7/31/2014 2:38:56 PM
^^ yeah, I don't really travel so the 20% discount isn't a big deal. About the only thing I do with the points is sell them so being able to transfer is good. Plus I like that shiny metal card. Still have the Ink Plus since they gave me enough points to cover the annual fee but will probably cancel it and get the Cash since they don't seem to want to downgrade the Plus to the Cash and I don't need the $50k spending bonus limit. Then just keep the CSP for transferring.
7/31/2014 2:48:21 PM
^^ yeah can't you just get a couple of these AA cards and go from there?http://millionmilesecrets.com/credit-cards/airline-credit-cards/[Edited on July 31, 2014 at 3:04 PM. Reason : aka i don't know that you necessarily need to churn cards to get a trip]
