So, 2 (or 3, or 4, whatever) pages later, does anyone still think we can rattle off something like an 18-5 record down the stretch? If so, I'd like to hear why you still have any hope. Not saying it's impossible, but I strongly disagree with anyone that thinks there's any chance to salvage this season.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 3:06 PM. Reason : new page]

I prefer not to get my hopes up for any teams that I like.

No way, we're effed.Anyone that still thinks we can make the playoffs needs to but down the blunt and grab some eye drops.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 3:14 PM. Reason : ^^ lawl at the manstache]

I don't think anyone thinks we can make it, except for maybe JR

^^what did you think was going to happen?the Hurricanes don't slump at the end of the season, if they're out of the playoff race
2/20/2012 10:54:13 PM
from what i've read, there are 3 elite prospects in this draft. It would suck if we miss out on them.
2/20/2012 11:07:46 PM
I think 4 prospects are really good, nail, grigorenko, forsberg, and ryan murray. Nail and Grigorenko are kinda on pretty much 1a and 1b. The rest of the top 10 is good, but a lot of d-men. Galchenyuk is supposed to be awesome, but he's been out for about a year with a knee injury, he'll probably still go top 5 though. Team looked awesome tonight. If the first line can play that well with Samson on it, they might as well trade Ruutu for as much as they can. Also, sweet fight by Faulk
2/20/2012 11:17:00 PM
7 points out with 9 division games left, however, doesn't even sound like it might require 90 points.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 11:20 PM. Reason : ]

Latest totally unfounded trade rumors: - JR has made an offer to Ruutu, Ruu just has to decide whether or not to take it or test the market. - Spacek gone within the week.- Allen to be given an extension.
2/21/2012 10:29:22 AM
I wouldn't be broken up over giving Allen an extension.
2/21/2012 10:35:56 AM
^^ if any of that came from hockeybuzz or a similar place, none of those things will occur.
2/21/2012 10:50:18 AM
So Larose was held out of the game last night and it wasn't for injury from what I could find. Is there any chance he gets traded?
2/21/2012 11:39:13 AM
2/21/2012 11:55:52 AM
It's because Derek Joslin is a better forward than Larose, and he's the worst defenseman on our team. No offense to Joslin, he's played hard.
2/21/2012 12:04:32 PM
Oreoline FTW
2/21/2012 12:08:24 PM
LaRose is hurt...
2/21/2012 1:15:15 PM
^^loved a woman complaining to us for using the term "Oreoline" last night. Bitch, be aware of the team.
2/21/2012 1:38:33 PM
I could see it being iffy from an objective standpoint. Stewart's down with it, though, SO DUCK IT.
2/21/2012 1:49:46 PM
Forslund called it the Hershey Line last night on 99.9

Ruutu signing an extension, terms unknown sounds like probably around 4 years at $4 million per
2/22/2012 2:51:01 PM
woah
2/22/2012 2:53:37 PM
4 yrs, $4.75M per. A bit steep
2/22/2012 3:23:29 PM
He wasn't going to.sign for a pay cut... don't act so surprised. His cap hit was 3.8m last contract[Edited on February 22, 2012 at 3:24 PM. Reason : ok 4.75 i am surprised at. 4 i would not have been]
2/22/2012 3:23:32 PM

If he goes back to producing like he did in '09 (which is fairly likely), I'm all for it
2/22/2012 3:36:38 PM
another goddamned NTC?? Didn't that burn us a couple years ago?
2/22/2012 3:51:09 PM
Yeah, but at least this time it expires before the final year of his contract, so there won't be a Whitney scenario.
2/22/2012 3:57:35 PM
what's our payroll gonna look like in '13 when we have to pay Skinner
2/22/2012 4:02:22 PM
^ Not good: http://www.capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=10
2/22/2012 4:06:53 PM
I'm ok with it. I would've liked the trade assets we could've gotten for him, but at the same time, we couldn't find a better winger in free agency. He was getting paid 4.4 mil, so he got a 300k raise, it's not really that much more money. With the cap likely increasing next year, it'll probably be like having him at what we do now. Now we get one of the top 3 picks, and we'll have a solid squad going into next year.
2/22/2012 4:40:51 PM
I'm goddamn pleased about this, and I'm shocked some people are so against it.Depends on CBA negotiations, but I bet the salary floor will only continue to increase. Goddamn we need some legit top 6 talent on this team, especially players that aren't tiny and meek. Ruutu's a fucking boss. plus his first game with the team will always be remembered. NEVER FORGET FRANKENRUUTU
2/22/2012 6:28:04 PM
Our cap space in 2013-14 when we have to sign Skinner, is like 30 million right now, and probably going to be higher than that. Unless he wants a 30 million dollar a year deal, i don't think it'll be a problem. We're not anywhere close to the cap.
2/22/2012 6:44:02 PM
canes fun fact:we are 6-2-2 in the last 10. Keep that pace (unreasonable, of course), and we finish 13-5-4 ish (30 points over 22 games). That would be just enough for us to have a shot and blow it in the last game of the season, in case you've been craving a good kick in the junk. We'd have to win the division, basically, and take advantage of games going the right way against the rest of this shitty division. Florida's currently in first. Guess who we play in the last game of the season?
2/22/2012 8:56:33 PM
Whatever, I'm a veteran at that shit now. I don't think I'll even blink an eye if we pull that off a third time.
2/22/2012 10:35:14 PM
2/22/2012 11:43:51 PM
Yea it was probably Ruutu's outrageous contract, not Brian Campbell, Scott Gomez, or Rick Dipietro. Ruutu is like the Barry Zito of the NHL.
