Man, that 20 win regular season feels good for a change.
3/4/2012 8:59:30 PM
They really need to re-seed the ACCT brackets every round.
3/4/2012 9:01:34 PM
couldn't have asked for a better draw. 1 pad win and a chance at beating a good team. That alone might do the trick. Then to top it off, we could get a crack at UNC.What a successful season no matter what!
3/4/2012 9:05:11 PM
congrats on a pretty decent season, Mark. I'm not sure anyone really thought we'd do as well as we did, much less have a chance to have done even better. Let's try to limit the WTF games next year, and it could be a great season.that said, let's kick some ass in the ACCT and hope it's enough to go dancin. Otherwise, let's beat up some scrubs in the NIT
3/4/2012 9:10:34 PM
So how many tourney wins do we need to make the tourney?
3/4/2012 9:22:20 PM
2

4[Edited on March 4, 2012 at 9:24 PM. Reason : 3 really]

I don't feel as though 2 wins is going to be enough to get us in, unfortunately. I feel as though we need to beat unc to get us over the hump and I just don't see that happening . Of course, I would prefer we remove all doubt and just win the acct.
3/4/2012 9:25:42 PM
i say 2if Miami takes care of their business against Georgia Tech maybe that will boost their RPI from 51 to 50, and completely change our resume by adding two 'quality wins'
3/4/2012 9:25:51 PM
0/1=NIT. 2=first four game. 3=first round game.[Edited on March 4, 2012 at 9:27 PM. Reason : ]

So, if we beat both BC and UVA, do you think we get in the tournament and UVA doesn't? I find that unlikely. Or do you think the NCAA would take 5 ACC teams if that were the case?
3/4/2012 9:31:06 PM
More likely that 5 ACC teams make it.
3/4/2012 9:33:50 PM
beating virginia puts us in one of the play in gamesvirginia will still make it. if they lost today they'd be in trouble
3/4/2012 9:34:03 PM
unless we have a shitload of upsets in the remaining mid-major conference tournaments i think we get at least 5 teams ini've said it many times already, but even though the ACC is down this year, so are most of the other power conferences not named Big 10 or Big XIIif we win 2 games i think we're in, unless Miami wins the ACC tourney or something
3/4/2012 9:44:00 PM
No way any ACC team makes the first four games (ncaa play-in). Those are reserved for shitty conferences
3/4/2012 10:01:40 PM
Not sure if serious meme
3/4/2012 10:03:13 PM
I think we need 2 wins, and at least a good showing against UNC, if not a win, to dance.
3/4/2012 10:06:02 PM
3/4/2012 10:07:08 PM
wasn't last year the first year with the first four format?

Yes. Two first four games are for the last 4 at large teams in and two games are for the bottom four teams.[Edited on March 4, 2012 at 10:14 PM. Reason : Fix]

Joe Lunardi said State beats BC and UVA, they are in.
3/4/2012 10:34:07 PM

Also gotta be pulling for stanford to keep winning. Their W over cal yesterday helped our RPI - interesting hubert david listed them as a "bad loss" right there with GT
3/5/2012 8:24:46 AM
^ ESPN listed our bad losses as GT, Clemson, and Stanford and classified bad losses as to teams with > 100 RPI. I did not realize Stanford was that weak this year. Still don't understand why Northwestern is getting in over us. Yeah they beat Michigan State, but they have not done much else and have an 8-10 conference record.[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 9:25 AM. Assuming we beat BC, the UVA game will be State's most important since the 07 ACC Title game
3/5/2012 9:59:06 AM
- We make it to Saturday, lose to a 8/9 seed, 1/10 chance. 2 wins probably puts us in, but the 8/9's are turrible, just turrible, so odds are a loss vs one of them kills us outright.- We lose to UVa, not getting in barring miracle 1/100- We lose to BC, not getting in barring major miracle 1/10,000Fixed it for you.[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 10:07 AM. We only beat BC by 5 last time we played them. we were never able to get the running game going and BC would hold the ball for 30 secs. That was the EPIC GIF game thread. I don't see how the BIG EAST gets 10 teams in. in the top 10 of the Big East 2 with losing conf records , one at .500, and and 3 with less than 20 wins. Seton Hall has a losing record, only 18 wins, and a RPI of 60?

The bubble is absolutely terrible this year when NORTHWESTERN is considered by a lot to be "soundly in" when they are garbage. We suck out loud, but we're admittedly even with a lot of "on the bubble, in" teams. We certainly don't deserve it with our VT Lite wins, but it's a good chance we get in with wins over BC and UVA. Not 100%, but better than a coin flip. Lose to either, and there's 0%, don't kid yourselves. NORTHWESTERN. REALLY?
3/5/2012 10:28:01 AM
sucking out loud with our first 20-win season in 6 years!
3/5/2012 10:29:32 AM
20 wins in a soft ACC with our best ones over Miami and Texas and a loss to GT. So yeah, we suck, but with as bad as everyone else is too, it's still almost enough.
3/5/2012 10:32:10 AM
Looking more closely...If VCU, Northwestern, Oregon, Miami, or Texas get in and we don't I will be livid. That's if we win 2 games in the AACT.
3/5/2012 10:56:03 AM
^^^^I've put Northwestern ahead of a lot of the Big East bubble teams. At least the Big 10 is the best conference in the country. No way Big East gets even close to 10 teams in. They've dropped about as hard as we have this year.
3/5/2012 11:02:01 AM
Miami getting in would really suck for State, but Miami does have a couple very solid wins against Duke and FSU.Northwestern has beaten Mich State and also took down Seton Hall which is good as well. They got absolutely raped at home by Baylor. VCU and Oregon should not get at large bids period.[Edited on March 5, 2012 at 11:10 AM. Reason : sd]
3/5/2012 11:10:28 AM
VCU making their run last year certainly isnt going to hurt their chances of getting an at large thats for sure
3/5/2012 11:22:53 AM
nnot sure where to put this, but on twitter Brian Keeter just said he was a better player than Bob Cousy
3/5/2012 1:37:02 PM
I can tell you which one is the better driver.
3/5/2012 1:46:16 PM
i don't have much content to add, but i firmly believe that we will beat bc and uva, and make the tournament. the gottfried train cannot be stopped at this point.i'm also pretty sure leslie is going to continue to play well and jump ship, which won't be in anyone's best interest.
3/5/2012 1:52:57 PM
Since we're 0-8 vs RPI top 50, it'd be nice for Miami and Texas to sneak into the top 50, and with a win over UVa we'd improve to 4-8 vs RPI top 50. I've got no clue how likely it is Miami and Texas could jump a few spots...or even if that would hurt us (they're improved RPI) more than it would help us. I'm thinking as long as we win, it would to help us since we've beaten those teams. And I really don't know how seriously the committee considers the record vs RPI top 50...but ESPN definitely uses it a lot.
3/5/2012 1:54:00 PM
objectively i wouldn't think it would make much of a difference to the selection committee if texas and miami have rpis of 48-50 or 51-53, but i really don't know.my gut says that the less teams on the bubble the better for our chances.
3/5/2012 2:18:06 PM
CJL make 2nd team All-ACC and Brown made 3rd team.
3/5/2012 2:46:49 PM
^ About right for both. If Howell didn't foul so much, he'd probably be 3rd team.David Glenn today was saying that he thinks State needs to beat UNC to assure itself an NCAA bid. Said that just beating BC and UVa would not be enough. I disagree.
