8/21/2011 2:31:51 PM

Great weekend for the Braves and a great stretch against the D-backs and Giants winning 6 out of 7 games. It'll take a complete collapse and one of the other teams (D-backs, Giants, or Cards) to get red hot for the Braves to not win the Wild Card. I just hope the Braves play well heading into the postseason and get everyone healthy, kind of like Giants were able to do last year. If nothing else hopefully this big WC lead allows them to rest Venters, O'Flaherty, and Kimbrel some down the stretch.Another series against the Cubs starting today which is kind of unfortunate considering how well they've been playing.
8/22/2011 1:45:10 PM
so 6.5 behind the phillies? if the braves stay hot we just might have a chance to make a run at the division..if not, i'll still take WC anyday.
8/22/2011 3:25:47 PM
Y'all about to get considered by the Cubs.
8/22/2011 3:30:46 PM
how is WGN only gonna show the Thursday gamesome bullshit
8/22/2011 3:51:21 PM
Braves are totally capable of catching the Phils. Two more series with them and the Braves have the easier schedule the rest of the way, but I don't want to start sounding like a Mets fan.It would be great if the Braves did take the division (though I doubt they will). Arizona/San Francisco would be a lot easier than playing Milwaukee without home field advantage. Anything can happen in a five game series, but the way the Braves are playing right now it'll be a disappointment not to make the LCS. Oh, I'm getting ahead of myself.
8/22/2011 3:52:33 PM
Moylan tweeted a pic from his minor league assignments. hope he can return to form.
8/22/2011 4:59:43 PM
Jayson Stark's goofy ass makes a convincing case that Kimbrel and Venters are having the best season ever for a bullpen duohttp://espn.go.com/mlb/blog/_/name/stark_jayson/id/6885526/braves-bullpen-tag-team-untouchable
8/22/2011 6:35:42 PM
uggla hits his 30th and Freeman hits his 18th tonight. Braves up 3-0 in bottom of 6th.
8/22/2011 9:55:39 PM
^^ I cannot access that from work, but what does he say about O'Flaherty? He's having a great season as well (nearly a K/inning pitched and a WHIP and ERA in the low 1s). How long do the Braves have Venters and O'Flaherty under contract? Both are going to demand big money if they go to free agency especially Venters as he obviously has closer stuff. O'Flaherty has been around a while longer, but still is the best lefty setup man in baseball.Uggla with 30 bombs again. Amazing that he's reached that goal again considering his piss poor start to the season.
8/23/2011 8:20:07 AM
I'm more worried about arbitration than free agency (granted, I don't know exactly how arbitration works, and if folks in the bullpen are eligible for it). So first question, would O'Ventbrel be eligible for arbitration? I could see them getting a significant pay raise based on their performance. If they get a pay raise, can we afford them, or are we going to roll out new arms that are incredibly cheaper?
8/23/2011 10:26:48 AM
You don't have to worry about either of those guys for 5 years...even with arbitration money (40/60/80), they're easily controllable assets. O'Flarety is a little further down the line, but middle relievers don't break the bank. Those three are going to be the back of your bullpen for the next several seasons.
8/23/2011 10:31:27 AM
Word on the street is alot of 1991 Braves team balls will be released soon. Major want here but I don't think that I will pony up.
8/23/2011 10:41:47 AM
You guys are really going to pay for that shut out last night.
8/23/2011 11:28:29 AM
on direct tv will braves game show on MLBN tonight or will it be the red sox game?
8/23/2011 4:14:58 PM
It should be blacked out if you're in a Braves market. Somehow the game last week slipped through the cracks, though.--Players are arbitration-eligible with more than 3 but less than 6 years of service time (basically, but it's more complicated than that). EOF was arbitration eligible before this year, but was tendered a <$1m contract. I could see him signing a 2-3 year deal in the offseason.Venters and Kimbrel are obviously a long way from arbitration and a much longer way from free agency and will be making the league minimum for the next few seasons.Look for more details in my upcoming thread: "2012 Braves Thread", due out this October.[Edited on August 23, 2011 at 4:23 PM. was last night's game on anywhere?
8/23/2011 5:04:40 PM
PTV/FSS
8/23/2011 5:11:06 PM
This is FUCKING GAY. So I'm guessing WGN can't show the game because MLBN is showing it as part of their regional covereage. Yet they are showing the fucking Red Sox/Rangers game in Raleigh.fucking stupid.
8/23/2011 8:03:32 PM
Heyward with the grand slam!!

8/23/2011 10:57:39 PM
Hard to argue that Kimbrel isn't the best closer in baseball
8/23/2011 10:58:57 PM
nice
8/23/2011 10:59:03 PM
Hopefully, the rest of baseball will glom to this fact
8/23/2011 10:59:30 PM
Most saves by a NL rookie closer. 40.
8/23/2011 10:59:39 PM
perhaps we should just never pitch to Ramirez again...8 hits in 9 ABs this series...but then again, who cares when you've got KIMBREL![Edited on August 23, 2011 at 11:00 PM. Reason : haha...beat me to it 2105]
8/23/2011 10:59:41 PM
more good news boys, Cardinals are losing 13-0 and Giants are down 4-0 in the 3rd. Looks like we're putting another game on the wild card lead tonight!
8/23/2011 11:01:46 PM
excellent news indeed! Can't remember...if we finish ahead of the Brewers record-wise can we get some home field advantage? Or will the wild card, if we hold on, doom us to visitor status?
8/23/2011 11:08:00 PM
Wild card is the road teamNot good news with the way the Brewers play at home
8/23/2011 11:09:43 PM
damn...that's what I feared. Thanks for the info.
8/23/2011 11:17:55 PM
Braves are pretty much locked into playing the Brewers in the 1st round at this point. Unless the Phillies collapse, the whole season is going to come down to games 1 and 2 in Milwaukee.
8/24/2011 7:01:05 AM
well with all the injury problems we have had this season, its nice to go ahead and be able to "rest" everyone we need to and get some of the injured back.
8/24/2011 11:36:41 AM
Can the Bravos keep the streak going tonight? The Phillys lost which does NOT help the mojo.
8/24/2011 6:43:47 PM
Ahhh fuck. The phillies lost, it's a guarantee we will lose.
8/24/2011 8:08:19 PM
why does direct tv suck at carrying braves games? this is going to piss me off if I have this trouble come college basketball season
8/24/2011 8:26:05 PM
ugh, will this inning EVER fucking end??
8/24/2011 8:41:09 PM
Oh nowe!!
8/24/2011 8:41:46 PM
so, I only post this in here because it's the only time i've seen it advertised, but is FSN really not creative enough to come up with a better name than "The New College Football Show"
8/24/2011 9:35:10 PM
449
8/24/2011 10:02:45 PM
game is on WGN today, for those with DTV issues like me2:20 i think
8/25/2011 12:23:30 PM
Need the win today, going 2-2 against Chicago is not acceptable
8/25/2011 12:45:58 PM
^ Chicago has been playing much better the past month. The Braves are catching them at a bad time. Garza is pitching today too and he's been tough at Wrigley.
8/25/2011 1:17:09 PM
Off to a good start.
