Dickie V tweeted the same thing.

isn't that standard? don't almost all schools prevent a transfer from going to a team they'll be playing? and did he even have any intentions of going to Missouri or Cincinnati?
4/4/2013 8:52:34 AM
I have absolutely no problem with the restrictions. Yow is just looking out for the best interest of NCSU, and that's her job. Purvis is a good kid, sure, but we owe him nothing at this point because he's turned his back on us and we have to move on. Yes, he played well for us and we got that benefit, but he also got a year's worth of college tuition, etc. which comes directly out of the pockets of donors (like me). So excuse me if I don't shed a tear and bend to the will of someone who's quit on me.If you were running a business and an employee wanted to leave for another opportunity which they deemed better for them, would you let them go to a direct competitor? If I had the presence of mind to make them sign a non-compete, I certainly would not. They could directly affect my company with their performance, or indirectly through the negative marketing (either intentional or implied) such as "so-and-so left CompanyX to come work for us... they're on the way down and we're on the way up... blah blah blah." Does that mean you don't want them to be successful and happy? No, it doesn't, it just means you're looking out for the best interest of you, your company, and those people who still are committed to working for you. When you back out of a commitment, there are and should be consequences.

he's right that schools should not block students from transferring ever, but instead of calling out State for following standard practice he should be calling out the system. that's really why his statement is bad.
4/4/2013 9:00:55 AM
remember all the work Yow and the Athletic department did to get Purvis cleared and in school! and Purvis and his family repays the university by whinny the whole 2nd half of the season. It's pretty sad when there no loyalty, since of Team, and respect for EARNING playing time. seems like more and more Transfers every year. If he spent less time pouting and more time practicing free throws and layups he might have played more. The dude left 8 ppg on the floor every night from missed layups and free throws.
4/4/2013 9:36:32 AM
Blocking a transfer from conference schools and future opponents is pretty standard, right?
4/4/2013 9:55:59 AM
Purvis is just a good kid and is probably just trying to be nice but he was wrong to tweet Vitale thanks for posting the story about Yow. It implies that he agrees what is being done is wrong; which it's not.^ conference yes, future opponents in bball not as much but it's not a big no-no[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 10:03 AM. Reason : X]

The schools they picked seem like no-brainers and the department put in some leg work for him this season. That tweet and responses to it just look stupid.
4/4/2013 10:27:51 AM
are you all defending this because the restrictions State made are pretty standard, or because you just really think that people who make millions of dollars off of unpaid athletes should be able to restrict where those unpaid athletes choose to go?because if its the second we need to talk, it's not selfish for an unpaid student athlete to do whatever they think is best for them in an industry where others are making millions off of their unpaid labor.
4/4/2013 10:33:13 AM
Pretty much #ncstateshit to get called out for doing something that every school does, especially after putting in the time and effort to get him into school which nobody seems to give any credit for in the first place.I actually like the rule... it helps protect both the school and the player when a transfer occurs. You want to leave, that is fine but you are going to get a fresh start somewhere the hell away from here.
4/4/2013 10:33:54 AM
standard. Why make a specific statement about NCSU instead of the entire landscape when this is happening to other players at other schools right now?
4/4/2013 10:34:27 AM
I think the same conference thing is standard and is a decent rule, but the future scheduled schools thing is just retarded, and there is no point imposing it too!
4/4/2013 10:34:35 AM
i think it makes sense. you know some fans would give players all kinds of shit if they returned to the arena on an opposing team.[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 10:41 AM. Reason : ]
4/4/2013 10:40:57 AM
Isn't a reason for restricting future opponents that a kid will learn a school's entire offensive and defensive systems, then be able to use that when playing them down the road?
4/4/2013 10:59:49 AM
^^^ why is is retarted?
4/4/2013 11:04:16 AM
Transfer restrictions and paying the players are two separate arguments. Bilas is on a crusade though, so whatever.
4/4/2013 11:04:27 AM
^^Well, State could schedule teams like Kentucky, Mich, Indiana, UCLA and because of that Purvis can't join them? Joining a direct ACC rival is a clear conflict of interest wrt championships, standings etc.Blocking a transfer to a team you face just once and not part of your conference is a stupid rule.
4/4/2013 11:13:26 AM
making jay bilas & dick vitale whine and bitch, +2 credibility
4/4/2013 11:26:09 AM
Clearly we're going to make scheduling decisions based on being a dick to a freshman who honestly wasnt even that good
4/4/2013 11:27:55 AM
to me its checks and balances, and i like it. fuck purvis

shit, throw Michigan in there too since we face them in the ACC/B1G challenge again(don't we?)[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 11:47 AM. Reason : ]
4/4/2013 11:47:19 AM
I don't think we've faced the same team in back-to-back years in the ACC/B1G Challenge.
4/4/2013 11:54:10 AM
Same as a non-compete clause. I had to sign one with my business. Tough shit, we went to bat for him to be eligible and also gave him scholarship for a year. I have no problem with this.
4/4/2013 11:54:45 AM
I'd guess Mizzou is was one of his fallback options since the assistant who got him to originally commit to L'ville is there now and Frank Haith is probably the only major conference HC dumb enough to make Purvis the focus of his offense.[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 11:57 AM. Reason : f]
4/4/2013 11:56:56 AM
nevermind. With the additions of Syracuse and Pitt, they might just go off of RPI.[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 12:00 PM. Reason : ]

even though he didn't write the article, Bilas has been off his rocker lately
4/4/2013 1:14:42 PM
^^ so you prefer "grossly underpaid and taken advantage of" athletes at major basketball schools should be paid 6 and 7 figure salaries based on what the schools are earning (per people who know a lot more about it than us), its a multi-billion dollar industry on the backs of some athletes who get tuition and a few other small incentives. fuck that, they have earned the right to do what they want.

I think you are grossly overvaluing an NCAA athlete if you think he should be paid six figures. Athletes whose actual jersey's are sold would only get a couple thousand bucks from those sales. For the price of tuition/room/meals, I think these athletes are being pretty well compensated.
4/4/2013 1:39:29 PM
no, see they get free grades and a chance to make millions. they shouldnt be paid shit. get an free degree or go to the nba. being an ex college basketball player, you can get sooo many jobs out of college with ease. quit acting like they are "mistreated" fuck that. let the schools make their money. the school is a business that needs to make a shit ton of money to keep growing and updating its infrastructure.
4/4/2013 1:39:33 PM
lol at 7 figure salariesthere are maybe a half dozen schools in the country whose bball programs make more than $8 or $9 million a year
4/4/2013 1:41:15 PM
Instead of blaming the schools how about some accountability for the parents/handlers/random family member/AAU program that got in his ear and told a 6'3 kid who can't shoot he is a one and done instead of, "you are a great athlete but need to work hard in college."
4/4/2013 1:47:44 PM
He should have thought about this before he got sand in his vagina and decided to transfer.
4/4/2013 1:54:13 PM
^^ huh? What does that mean? He isn't transferring because he wanted to be a one and done. That doesn't even make sense. His only chance to make the NBA eventually is to play PG at his size. He would never do that here with Lewis/Cat. Simple as that.It happens. Players transfer.[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 1:59 PM. Reason : And there is ZERO evidence he didn't work very hard]
4/4/2013 1:59:12 PM
I think college bball can implement the baseball model, declare for the draft after high school or atleast spend 3 years in college...
4/4/2013 2:03:38 PM
4/4/2013 2:07:00 PM
how is getting free tuition, free housing, free food, free hotels, free travel, free clothes not being compensated?
4/4/2013 2:10:29 PM
he could easily give a team a slight unfair advantage by revealing a play or scheme or whatever.in other news, I'm excited for the win we're apparently going to get over the mizzou haiths in the near future.
4/4/2013 2:11:16 PM
How much should Vandenberg be paid? His VORP was higher than Purvis'
