Pliny is the least of my concerns really. If i got it, cool, if not that's cool too. I'll take a look over the weekend and see if we can put something together in the coming weeks.

does russian river only bottle pliny periodically? or is it just a distribution issue?
2/3/2011 2:11:16 PM
Pliny the Elder batches are about once a month, and it's limited batch, limited distribution. It's brewed year-round though.Pliny the Younger are about once a year, and very limited.[Edited on February 3, 2011 at 2:25 PM. Reason : .]
2/3/2011 2:24:21 PM
yeah i knew it was brewed year round -- i can always get it on tap around townjust curious about the bottling, but i guess the main issue is limited distributionand yeah, very familiar with the younger's very limited production/distribution -- it's being released up in santa rosa tomorrow so maybe a keg or two will find its way down here[Edited on February 3, 2011 at 2:27 PM. Reason : younger!]

I was going to ship some beer to CO until I realized it's -273C.
2/3/2011 3:18:40 PM
Grabbed a six-pack of this yesterday at Whole Foods:I quite like it--has a nice amount of spice, a little sweet, very drinkable. I'm no expert on abbey ales, but I enjoy them, and I'm a fan of this one especially for the price. Also picked up a Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter (I am now a fan), Abita Save Our Shores Pilsner, a Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron, and a G. Schneider & Sohn Aventinus Eisbock. The standard Aventinus is already a favorite so I'm really looking forward to the eisbock version.[Edited on February 3, 2011 at 4:50 PM. Reason : d]

roberta sorry didn't realize you were in california. yes, Pliny the Younger comes out in a week, wish i were there... i can get Pliny the Elder on tap in CO a lot easier than in a bottle, so I'd say it's more related to distribution.
2/4/2011 12:22:02 AM
so what are y'all drinking during the Super Bowl?as were hosting i thought i'd pick up some more standard stuff, got some Boulder Beer hazed & infused and some Sam Adams Noble Pils as well as some left over Red Chair

2/6/2011 8:04:13 PM
Had a Lukcy Basartd Ale and a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. Drank about half of a Weyerbacher Winter Ale to sober up (it's almost as bad as the Anchor Stream winter seasonal)
2/6/2011 10:18:14 PM
^that Lucky Bastard is really goodI picked up some super fresh Founders Double Trouble yesterday (it was bottled on 2/1/11) which rivals Hopslam as far as I'm concerned.
2/6/2011 10:34:54 PM
oh, and had Stone Cali-Belgique IPA as well as Rogue Oatmeal Stout.... oh and Young's Double Chocolate... also forgot the New Belgium Lips Of Faith Vrienden (Allagash Collaboration) it was a good night
2/7/2011 12:14:15 AM
i took a week off from booze entirely, and my first beer back was a bud light- tasted like the first beer I ever had. It was amazing! not that it tasted great, but it was very nostalgic... nom
2/7/2011 12:19:05 AM
my Superbowl consisted of Noble Pils and Bell's Amber.
2/7/2011 8:43:23 AM
Ugh...I consumed an entire growler of Terrapin's Oatmeal Coffee Stout and a few Bell's Two Hearted last night. I'm feeling it this morning.
2/7/2011 9:33:29 AM
^ thats a winning combination...ive got ab a dozen wake and bakes aging for 2 years now, bust a couple out every xmas eve to share with the fam.i grabbed some random tallboys from peace st. and hit a homerun with both, in my opinion.-french broad-ESB 8.5/10-ska brew co.-nefarious imperial stout 8.5/10and had a terrapin moohoo
2/7/2011 9:51:45 AM
Love that moohoo, and like that imperial stout, but I'm not the biggest fan of the ESB
2/7/2011 10:13:09 AM
found a new source for alpine locally -- stocked up there for the super bowlstarted off with a racer 5 then had an alpine duet, ballast point sculpin, and port hop-15also tried a deschutes hop henge ipa, but didn't really like it (didn't hold up to the others i was drinking i guess)my guests didn't drink enough beer (and brought lots over as well) so my fridge is currently stuffed -- also picked up a sixer of this year's big foot but i haven't tried it yet
2/7/2011 1:35:09 PM
going to the Foothills Beer Dinner in two weeks at Duckworth's in Charlotte.
2/7/2011 4:16:00 PM
Bigfoot should be out this week if you haven't already gotten it.
2/7/2011 5:52:48 PM
^ Im from the home of foot-hills, and i must say i have much disdain for most (85%) of their brew.the food sounds fantastic though...enjoy
2/7/2011 5:54:41 PM
^^^i go to get a piece of cake and get snaked
2/7/2011 5:56:36 PM
Cool site to find your favorite brew locally:http://www.taphunter.com
2/8/2011 11:56:29 AM
^^^Do you just dislike their beer, or is there other connections?Because what I've had from them has been great.
2/8/2011 2:36:05 PM
some of foothills year round brews are very run of the mill without much originality. I think this is what gets them a lot of hate. but their seasonals are very good, i have much love for the india brown, and seeing double is consistently one of the best DIPAs around.
2/8/2011 2:39:05 PM
I don't care for their Pilsner or Hefeweizen, but pretty much everything else they make ranges from really good to excellent.
2/8/2011 2:46:58 PM
its probably been said already but I just moved back here and was wondering where yall buy your beer from. Ive been to total wine but there selection is weak most of the time
2/8/2011 3:33:07 PM
Peace Street market has a good selection but is typically overpriced, College beverage has a smaller selection but is more reasonably priced and Whole Foods has a pretty good selection and allows you to buy singles. Or you could always drive to Durham and go to Sam's Quick Shop, which has the best beer selection in the Triangle.
2/8/2011 3:35:58 PM
Picked up Duck Rabbit barleywine and a case of Cold Mountain 12 oz bottles.
2/8/2011 4:56:58 PM
I went to Tap City lastnight over where Stonewood Grill used to be on Falls of the Neuse. They had a pretty good selection.http://tapcitysaloon.com/beers/I had the Smuttynose Robust Porter. It was pretty good. They usually have at least 2 beers a day for $3. Food was decent as well but a little high.[Edited on February 8, 2011 at 5:22 PM. Reason : sp]

Pliny the Younger could be in Denver in a day:http://blogs.westword.com/cafesociety/2011/02/pliny_the_younger_a_california.php
2/10/2011 11:40:13 AM
nice, you should try to get some if possiblei get so frustrated at the hype/crowds/chaos of the younger release, but it really is delicious and worth it (but i only remember it's worth it after drinking it, not when chasing it around LA)
2/10/2011 12:29:19 PM
tried the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen.... HOLY FUCK, the smoke! certainly a polarizing beer.
2/10/2011 12:39:21 PM
2/10/2011 12:51:10 PM
well, with all the hype and if you've never had it before to know its deliciousness, it could be easy to say it's potentially not worth the hassle -- i was reiterating that i personally think it's worth itit sells out like that everywhere -- i tried to get it at 3 different places in LA last year and finally scored at this place in hollywood on a random weekday but only by strategic placement in front of the very crowded bar so that the bartenders who knew my friend well saw us and made sure we got glasses -- it sold out in like 7 minutesi remember back when younger wasn't so crazy hyped and was actually available on tap for an extended enough period of time that you didn't have to make specific plans to get it at a specific time, etc -- god, that makes me sound old or beer snobby or something...
2/10/2011 1:01:57 PM
Yea, but I don't care about hype or whether a beer is worth it or not. If it's a rare or unique (like a Triple IPA) or is highly ranked, I'd like to try it... I know that's some of 'buying into the hype' but I love all sorts of beer and just enjoy tasting different things. I don't think that makes us beer snobs, just people who are passionate about beer. A beer snob IMHO is one that is turned away from certain beers or "picky". I'm not picky, I'll drink it all Oh btw, if anyone is still interested in the beer trade, I might try to slip in a growler of Dry Dock Seven Seas DIPA, excellent beer, right up there with the Elder IMHO.[Edited on February 10, 2011 at 1:12 PM. ^Have you tried the Great Divide Grand Cru yet? I saw a bottle at the store yesterday but was hesitant to pick it up because of GD's mixed results with belgian styles.
2/10/2011 1:35:54 PM
Yea, the Grand Cru is so-so, if you see a bottle of the Belgica (Belgian IPA) it's MUCH better and more interesting. Also my favorite the Espresso Yeti came out this month, just delicious, those are the 3 GD releases this month.[Edited on February 10, 2011 at 1:57 PM. Reason : .]

2/11/2011 9:58:25 AM
We dropped in, but it wasn't until 10:30. It was deaddddddddd. ^you could try Pintley.com. I'm not sure if they have a mobile app yet but i've heard good things about it
