I would like to see us get Tyson Chandler. Not for any particular reason other than the fact that he's huge. We're recruiting him to play OL, right?

There's a premium article about Nixon and UNC that doesn't say we're out, but does say that his coach is a big time UNC homer. (something that wasn't that secret of information)]
11/19/2008 4:19:32 PM
we're looking at tyson chandler mostly on the OL.
11/19/2008 4:26:21 PM
going to take a miracle to get nixon away from Gainesville... imo
11/19/2008 4:39:45 PM
i know his coach is a big fan but i thought that Nixon wasn't a big fan of unc...either way i just hope they don't surprise me and get him
11/19/2008 4:56:59 PM
basically his coach will talk to him about UNC all the time, i don't know exactly how much he's paying attention to it because i don't think the article has a quote from him or anyone who isn't UNC biased

We are out of it with Nixon, 99% chance he signs with Florida.

Hans Rice plans to major in engineering in college. That can only help us out. I have a good feeling that we land him. He'd probably start out at safety for us but grow into a linebacker as he put on more weight over the years.

great article about Jarvis ByrdFlaVarsity.comPost #15831MyFanPageAdd BuddyWolfpack land a big one in Jarvis Byrd ReplyFirst off I apologize I haven't been able to come here sooner guys but right now it's playoff time in Florida, and everything is pretty hectic over here in the sunshine state. To start off with I'm not going to pull any punches, and I'm going to lay everything out on the table with this commitment. IMO in covering this state for over 12 years you see a lot of kids come out of the state of Florida. I have to say without a shadow of a doubt in my mind Jarvis Byrd is probably one of the most underrated prospects in Florida this year.I've covered, and evaluated Jarvis for the past three years and I can say that when it comes to physical defensive backs Byrd is certainly one of the best this season. He's got very good technique with his footwork, and almost never is out of position to make the play. Jarvis has good speed, not as fast as Janoris Jenkins from a year ago at Pahokee who is now at Florida but still very good. Jarvis is probably one of the strongest defensive backs I can remember ever at Pahokee. He's also extremely intelligent in reading a defense faster then any prospect at Pahokee, and that counts Alphonso Smith, and Janoris Jenkins so that's saying a lot. He doesn't have quite the explosion of those other two guys but it's still very impressive. What Jarvis does better than the previous prospects at Pahokee is reading the play, and reacting incredibly fast to the football. In fact, just so you know at the Muck Bowl this Saturday Jarvis went head to head with Rantavious Wooten (commitment to Georgia) and Byrd allowed zero catches to Wooten, and broke up two passes, one he nearly picked off.For those that might not know the story behind Jarvis. Earlier this year a Pahokee player by the name of Norman Griffith was shot, and killed during the season. This was just before the Blue Devils had to play their big national battle with Byrnes out of South Carolina. Now keep in mind all these kids are extremely close because unlike most areas these guys have been playing together since they could pick-up a football, probably around the age of 5 or 6. The loss stung even more for Jarvis because Griffith was his cousin. Following the loss Jarvis called a team meeting with the entire team, and let out a very emotional speech talking about how this is a pivotal time where the team has to take over, and overcome adversity. That gives you a very good idea about the type of kid you have coming over to your program.Jarvis does need a slight boost in his ACT but based on my conversations with the Pahokee administration they are very confident he will make it and is already on a strong plan to get this taken care of.As far as the abilities for Byrd. Another area I like about him is you can just put him anywhere on the field, and this kid just makes plays. As I mentioned in the article Jarvis has already set a school record this year with four block kicks. He's the one guy Pahokee will leave completely out on an island against the best receiver on the other team. I can also tell you the Byrd family as a whole is extremely excited about the commitment, and probably the one second to being excited about his decision is me because this is a kid that has worked countless hours to improve, and perfect his coverage skills. I'm thrilled to death for Jarvis not just because he's worked hard, but here's a kid that is mature beyond his years to understand how important progression is at the high school level. He will more than likely play cornerback at N.C. State but the Wolfpack coaches also know he can play the safety position, and not miss a beat. I would be stunned if this kid wasn't getting significant playing time as a freshman. His game is very familiar to Wake Forest star Alphonso Smith because of how physical he is, and how well he breaks on the ball.I just wanted to let you know the type of kid, and talent you got. Also, I should have some new senior video coming up in a few weeks, if not this week. In addition, if you have any questions just leave them on this thread and I will try my hardest to answer them either today, or the next day or so.Congrats Wolfpack fans you got a great one, treat him good.Michael LangstonPublisher of FlaVarsity.comEMail: michael@flavarsity.com

I watched his video on ESPN, and I've gotta say (NC State bias aside) I was pretty impressed. He seems to be a very fluid athlete, maybe not super-fast, but very smooth and quick. Also, he is an extremely sure tackler. If there's one thing TOB wants out of his DB's, it's that they can make an open field tackle.

Morgan Alexander is visiting us next weekend. I think it's down to us and Louisville and he's already visited louisville. He's listed as a rb but he also plays wr and cb in high school and i think most schools like him at the other two positions.
11/23/2008 4:23:44 PM
Not a big surprise, but Hawatha Bell and Terry Shankle committed to UNC. Bell committed right before the game but Shankle just committed today. Obviously the serious beating we gave them didn't make him rethink his decision. Oh well, go to hell carolina!
11/24/2008 10:05:27 AM
Well it won't probably pay off this year, but it will certainly pay off next year. I think next year is the year we dominate in-state recruiting with Crisp, Creecy, and Moore headlining the class.

11/24/2008 11:45:53 AM
Not to get off topic, but UNC only has 2 OL-commits this year, after bringing in only 1 last year. Butch reminds me more and more of Chuck as things go along. Both can't seem to grasp that you aren't going to win many games if you're being dominated at the line of scrimmage. Seems like barely getting 200 yards of total offense would tell Butch that, but he seems to be in love with flashy skill players and highly regarded defenders. Let's hope he doesn't wise up and start emphasizing recruiting the big uglies more.
11/24/2008 11:55:34 AM
I thought UNC only had one OL commitment (David Collins) in this years class? They only had one last year too.[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 12:05 PM. Reason : ]

They just got a 4-Star OG to decommit from USC(South Carolina) and switch to them after the visit this weekend. We go to their house, absolutely embarrass them on the field, and they pick up 3 big-time commitments, haha. Apparently they had silent verbals and were expecting to beat us and then reveal the big names and make it a huge weekend for them. Glad we could rain on their little parade.[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 12:10 PM. Reason : .]

^^ 4* Johnie Farms committed yesterday according to Scout. These UNC recruits must not be very bright. What player sees a team get totally dominated, and then after seeing that, pulls the trigger and decides to commit to that school? It doesn't make sense. I swear Butch is asking for a raise so he has more money to pay these recruits with.[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 12:10 PM. Reason : ^ beat me to it]
11/24/2008 12:10:35 PM
Besides USuCk what other offers did Farms have? Give me some measureables too since I'm at work and can't access Rivals or Scout. Maybe they see how terrible the other guys were and figured they could start early. Maybe Butch filled their head with "this school produced Stuart Scott, you can be just like him and make 6 figures with our communications degree" bullshit.
11/24/2008 1:11:06 PM
“I have received about nine or 10 offers,” said Johnnie Farms. “I have offers from Florida, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Alabama and Central Florida. Those are the ones I remember." http://recruiting.scout.com/2/729889.html FEB 18
