I got my Modest Mouse ticket and I'll be getting a Decemberists ticket too. I don't remember how much tickets were when they were last in Raleigh so I can't comment on that aspect though.

TV on the Radio will be on Colbert tonight btw.

You guys should get your Decemberists tickets NOW.

I used their pre-sale for their last tour stop in Raleigh and landed in the 2nd row.

Use this link and sign up here -- I've already ordered my two tix. It was $80 for two after fees.

No, I don't believe you'll know until they arrive in the mail.

This is the fan club pre-sale, so you're going to certainly get fantastic seats.

so i opted for EAR PWR over polvo

tons of people there for a party in the middle of nowhere outside carrboro

two kegs of brooklyn lager

a totally insane/awesome girl going by "sonic death rabbit" with amazing homemade clothes doing prince covers by using a gameboy

EAR PWR was awesome...three random dudes rolled in with an eight year old and took the mic from sarah and started making disco noises and it was awesome

then these two girls looked like they were rolling in leaves and it turns out they were trying to scratch each other's eyes out

everything was awesome

...as much as i love polvo, my experience with the crowd at the pour house on friday suggests i had way more fun at EAR PWR than i would have in raleigh

Here's info on the Decemberists tour:

Quote :
"The format of the tour is simple. The show will consist of two sets: one in which we Decemberists perform the record, The Hazards of Love, in its entirety (joined onstage by the immeasurable talents of M'mes Becky Stark and Shara Worden), and another where we perform a tidy selection of older material."

Worden is great as long as she's not performing My Brightest Diamond songs.

Not sure if there will be an opener or if we are getting two one-hour long sets.

My thoughts exactly.

She opened for Sufjan Stevens last tour, iirc, and I thought she was much better when joining him on stage than playing the My Brightest Diamond material, LOL.

Lincoln Theatre isn't a bad venue if there is a good band there.. though that is usually not the case.

it's much better than local 506 and disco rodeo

Lincoln is great in terms of layout, location, stuff like that. But I've only been there two or three times in my life since they tend to have the shittiest bands on the planet.

the booking sucks

the procineum is really weird for rock shows

the big video screens are gay

it's very obvious that uncool people run it because of the music they play pre-show/between acts

etc.

Yeah, I could definitely do without the ACDC / Guns & Roses / Zeppelin tribute bands they bring through from time to time, but it is still Raleigh's premier music venue regardless.

The only triangle venue to rival it would be Cat's Cradle IMO.

That's all subjective....seems like it's more genre-related with you folks, since it's the first pick of the majority of nationally touring bands that stop in Raleigh. Although I'm not a fan of a lot of the bands that they book, they do have some damn good bands that come through.

the last non-local show at lincoln that interested me was andrew wk, and that was years ago

and let's be real, andrew wk is a national act but not a prominent one

and define "raleigh"...because a majority of the national touring acts go to the cradle if we're talking raleigh/durham/ch, but if we're just talking raleigh, most national acts have been playing at koka booth or one of the auditoriums at progress energy

I agree that Lincoln does not "live up to its potential" --- not even fucking close, for reasons that have already been mentioned.

That being said, I would stand in a pile of shit up to my knees and still pay good money to see The National again.

Subject to musical taste, though only 1 on the current schedule stands out for me personally... A few acts I've enjoyed there.....

Toubab Krewe
Perpetual Groove
Umphrey's Mcgee
The National - haven't seen them tho

Quote :

Fair enough, large scale touring acts that can fill an auditorium / pavilion type venue will do so, but the majority of them also have a lot of support from record labels. I may have misspoke when I said '1st choice' but unless you can fill up a lawn or an auditorium, I personally think it's the best place to play in Raleigh

I've seen the first and third names in print before, but I've never heard their music or heard anyone mention their music, so I'd be hard pressed to consider those prominent national acts.

Fortunately what your niche of friends may or may not have said about a band does not make shit for difference whether they are a prominent touring act

Umphrey's tour dates
http://www.umphreys.com/home/shows.php?linkId=102

All three have played / play in large scale festivals like Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, etc, which generally only accept prominent touring acts....

Not going to argue in circles man, gotta get back to work.....to each his own

Fair enough.

I stand by my statement that Lincoln's booker does a terrible job and the place is run like a combination of PB's and a hesher bar and that keeps most of the serious acts away.
