so i opted for EAR PWR over polvotons of people there for a party in the middle of nowhere outside carrborotwo kegs of brooklyn lagera totally insane/awesome girl going by "sonic death rabbit" with amazing homemade clothes doing prince covers by using a gameboyEAR PWR was awesome...three random dudes rolled in with an eight year old and took the mic from sarah and started making disco noises and it was awesomethen these two girls looked like they were rolling in leaves and it turns out they were trying to scratch each other's eyes outeverything was awesome...as much as i love polvo, my experience with the crowd at the pour house on friday suggests i had way more fun at EAR PWR than i would have in raleigh

her covers are funor maybe it's just that I adore "Use Me" so much that I don't mind if someone butchers it
2/10/2009 10:49:05 AM
She covers Bill Withers' "use me"?hmmm... that would be interesting.

2/11/2009 8:27:38 AM
The National May 28th at Lincoln!!!!!
2/11/2009 1:41:39 PM
2/11/2009 1:45:49 PM
lincoln?wtf?
2/11/2009 1:46:53 PM
What's the beef with Lincoln Theatre?
2/11/2009 2:02:19 PM
it's not cooltoo many cover bands
2/11/2009 2:03:37 PM
Lincoln Theatre isn't a bad venue if there is a good band there.. though that is usually not the case.it's much better than local 506 and disco rodeo
2/11/2009 2:05:08 PM
Lincoln is great in terms of layout, location, stuff like that. But I've only been there two or three times in my life since they tend to have the shittiest bands on the planet.
2/11/2009 2:14:07 PM
the booking sucksthe procineum is really weird for rock showsthe big video screens are gayit's very obvious that uncool people run it because of the music they play pre-show/between actsetc.
2/11/2009 2:14:13 PM
2/11/2009 2:16:48 PM
Yeah, I could definitely do without the ACDC / Guns & Roses / Zeppelin tribute bands they bring through from time to time, but it is still Raleigh's premier music venue regardless. The only triangle venue to rival it would be Cat's Cradle IMO.
2/11/2009 2:21:54 PM
plz to name 3because i can't think of any
2/11/2009 2:26:23 PM
the last non-local show at lincoln that interested me was andrew wk, and that was years agoand let's be real, andrew wk is a national act but not a prominent oneand define "raleigh"...because a majority of the national touring acts go to the cradle if we're talking raleigh/durham/ch, but if we're just talking raleigh, most national acts have been playing at koka booth or one of the auditoriums at progress energy ]
2/11/2009 2:28:25 PM
I agree that Lincoln does not "live up to its potential" --- not even fucking close, for reasons that have already been mentioned. That being said, I would stand in a pile of shit up to my knees and still pay good money to see The National again.
2/11/2009 2:33:21 PM
^^or disco rodeo
2/11/2009 2:34:35 PM
ughLincoln means that the show will probably cost more than I'm willing to pay.[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 2:41 PM. Reason : B]
2/11/2009 2:40:28 PM
Grandaddy at Lincoln Theatre was pretty good
2/11/2009 2:40:49 PM
Subject to musical taste, though only 1 on the current schedule stands out for me personally... A few acts I've enjoyed there.....Toubab KrewePerpetual GrooveUmphrey's McgeeThe National - haven't seen them tho
2/11/2009 2:41:16 PM
2/11/2009 2:51:39 PM
2/11/2009 2:53:41 PM
Fortunately what your niche of friends may or may not have said about a band does not make shit for difference whether they are a prominent touring actUmphrey's tour dateshttp://www.umphreys.com/home/shows.php?linkId=102All three have played / play in large scale festivals like Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, etc, which generally only accept prominent touring acts....Not going to argue in circles man, gotta get back to work.....to each his own
2/11/2009 3:04:26 PM
Fair enough.I stand by my statement that Lincoln's booker does a terrible job and the place is run like a combination of PB's and a hesher bar and that keeps most of the serious acts away.
2/11/2009 3:49:17 PM
I just got The Pains of Being Pure at Heart album (which is pretty damn good) and also noticed they're playing at Local 506 next month (3/15 I think). Anyone going?
2/11/2009 4:17:59 PM
Cover bands do not constitute a genre.
2/11/2009 4:26:41 PM
2/11/2009 4:42:36 PM
The only two shows I can remember going to at Lincoln Theater were They Might Be Giants and Fiery Furnaces.
2/11/2009 4:55:13 PM
I saw the Fiery Furnaces open for of Montreal.they were a weird mix of fucking terrible and occasionally fun.
