you know im down. i'd rather do the 2 day school and get my license though.
7/4/2019 8:59:09 AM
2 day school is pointless. it costs basically as much as the 3 day school.1 day or 3 day is the smart money. I don't know what I'd do with a race license at the moment, though...I wouldn't be able to race enough with it to keep it active, I don't think.

Two day event at NCCAR on August 3/4 with TSCC. Anyone going?Never been to NCCAR before - Interested in its utility as a setup tuning facility. I have 2 sets of shocks, Two rear sway bars, and a new spring setup to dial in over the weekend.
7/21/2019 6:55:17 PM
I really wanted to go, but I have family business to take care of that prevent me from going...August 17th, TKE-Teg and I will be doing a Karting Enduro @ VIR (if the poor guy can stop hurting himself)I think VIR will be the next event, perhaps this November... Haven't decided which PCA club to run with yet.
7/21/2019 11:54:03 PM
NCCAR can be okay for tuning set up. As to the track itself, I'm not a fan.VIR in November for sure!

What pads are preferred nowadays for a street/track driven car on R-compound rubber?Do you guys use any whiz-bang rotors, or just cheap blanks from NAPA or RockAuto or whatever?
12/1/2019 2:16:30 AM
I use OE or brembo rotors. I tried the cheap ones like napa that weren't OE and they cracked really quick
12/1/2019 3:33:36 AM
^^not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about dual use? street and track use for one set of pads? Because I would not recommend that. That being said I use Carbotech's street pads on the street. They've got great feel, low dust, and look like good life (superior to OEM Porsche pads in all ways). Though they were pricey, around $400. On track I use Pagid Yellows - RS29. They have outstanding track life, though granted I have yet to use them on anything more aggressive than 300 TW tires (will change next weekend). For rotors I switched from OEM Porsche drilled rotors to Sebro slotted rotors. Great reviews by other track people and should have longer life than the OEM drilled ones. About 30% less expensive too.

Frozen Frenzy February 29th - March 1st. Who else is coming?

From Roebling in December:
1/20/2020 8:59:43 AM
Nice, after running nothing but E30s and E36s for the past 15 years, i recently got a 981 Cayman S. I just swapped on the X73 sport suspension kit and GT3 front LCAs to get some proper camber. I can't wait to see how it does.I live in Boston now so track season starts up again in.. April. I run with a club that does a time trial event which is fun. And me and some dudes have an E30 Lemons project as well. Did the 24 at CMP last year and got hooked. [Edited on February 11, 2020 at 11:46 PM. Reason : .]
2/11/2020 11:44:38 PM
just mounted RE-71Rs on my FR-S, and aligned it to -3 camber on the front, -2.5 on the rear. Zero toe front, 1/16" in on the rear.
2/12/2020 12:26:33 AM
^^Very nice!^good moveLooks like CMP is being repaved this summer. And Roebling Road wants to repave in the near future (currently raising funds). Great news for both tracks.Frozen Frenzy is in just over 2 weeks! And with the type of winter this area has been experiencing, it's more likely to be the Wet/Humid Frenzy
2/12/2020 8:27:30 AM
I was gonna go with NT-01s, but the RE-71Rs were on sale to the point that they were, I don't know, prob 30% cheaper or something like that. I figured it was worth trying them, and then doing NT-01s next time.Think those alignment settings are too aggressive, or good?
2/12/2020 8:30:28 PM
Those alignment settings are probably fine, WRT to tire wear. Handling characteristics, I couldn't really say.Right now on the Cayman I'm running -2.2° F -2.4° R with zero toe. I'm not particularly happy about having more rear camber, but at my car's current ride height (roughly 1.25 inch lower than stock) there's no way to reduce rear camber from where it is without adding in toe (which would shred my tires in no time). And front camber is maxed out. I need to buy some adjustable rear toe links. Tarett ones are like $400 I think.[Edited on February 13, 2020 at 10:28 AM. Reason : ]

Anyone wanna do Barber on the 29th?(cars, not bikes)
2/21/2020 12:09:00 AM
Spector, awesome. I'm finding alignment recommendations all over the place for this car. Have any recommendations? I'll be running RE71Rs, x73 suspension, and GT3 front LCAs.Right now i have -2.5 and zero toe up front, and -2.15 and some toe in rear. That's the most rear camber i can get without going to adjustable rear toe links. I want to avoid those for classing points reasons. Seems like people recommend anywhere from -2.2 to -3 up front with the rear all over the place from being -1.8 to more negative than the front. I'll take tire temps over the course of this year to hopefully dial things in.Also what are your thoughts on keeping this sucker cool on track? I'll add the center radiator for sure. I want to keep the PDK happy and healthy.I will say compared to the old BMW community, the Porsche community is a bunch of checkbook wrenching wankers. hah. I can't find good info for shit. I had to write the first ever DIY and torque spec write up for suspension install when i did the x73. I guess that's to be expected from a newer nicer car demographic, but it can be frustrating.

Anyone run RE-71Rs on track yet?
2/23/2020 2:26:34 PM
I have run RE-71Rs. My experience is limited, but I might be able to provide some insight? Let me know.

2/25/2020 7:41:30 AM
RE71R's are fantastic track tires.Grip is 2 sec a lap faster than RS4 on a 2 minute track.Wear is about 25% of a rs4. On a dry day they will last for an 8 hour race, barely. In the wet they dominate every other tire, until there gets to be standing water on the surface. Speaking from the budget enduro realm. Tire sizes used 255/17 and 285/18
2/25/2020 10:34:07 AM
I'll post to everyone's benefit. The reviews on Tire Rack and by most other track rats with experience are fairly on point.I echo what Air said.RE-71Rs are a fast tire and very confidence inspiring. They get noticeably hotter/stickier than Azenis. I can drive my Azenis 9.5/10 for 20 minutes (assuming my tire pressure is right) and I won't feel them getting greasy at all. When they do start feeling greasy, it's a gradual transition like the tire is saying, "hey, back it off a little okay?" and it is easy to back off your pace just a little to get them to behave again. The RE-71Rs, however, have a higher threshold for performance, but when you overdrive them and they are done, they let you know right then and there. For example, I was running my third lap at "the limit" and mid corner through Roebling's Turn 9 Sweeper onto the front straight, the RE-71Rs got greasy and started letting go. I ended up drifting out wider than I had planned, dropping two tires into the grass. It wasn't dramatic, but it was an experience to note. Azenis wouldn't have responded so abruptly in the same scenario.I felt I could run the RE-71R at 7.5/10 pace and consistently lap equally as fast as my Azenis pushing 9.5/10. I ran the Bridgestones in December at Roebling Road outside Savannah. Lows were 45 degrees, highs in the mid 60s. Once you get the tire pressure dialed in, the Bridgestones have no trouble warming up and getting sticky between sessions. You can push the tire 1 to 2 laps hard during a session if you want that "time attack" run, driving at the limit. They'll get greasy and hot and you'll easily overdrive them (and quickly too) if you keep that 9.5/10 pace up. It's that fact that you can really push these tires for those two laps that will make you feel like all the other laps are slow or that the tires are under performing. That perspective can be misleading if you are used to more endurance tires like RS4s or even the very linear feeling Azenis. That's where driving on RE-71Rs take a bit more driver self-discipline. I've punished my Azenis through and through and they never changed their handling characteristic as a result of it; much more compliant to just play along with whatever you throw at it. The RE-71R will push back if you demand too much from them. The Bridgestone RE-71R is a fantastic tire in terms of feedback and input response. Clearly a winner in the category for those two aspects. The mid 40's temp didn't deter their drive-ability, though I suspect I will only get about 6 hours of track time out of my set. My Azenis RT-615k+, on the other hand, are good for about 8-10 hours of track time. The accelerated wear on the Bridgestone is just as apparent as the performance gain. All of this is a bit wordy. I hope the picture I'm painting here makes some sense.[Edited on February 25, 2020 at 12:02 PM. Reason : .]

Video from some "fun" i had at road atlanta a few weeks back. On RE71s.https://youtu.be/U4cUbAjYlpY?t=17131
2/25/2020 3:03:36 PM
if you were in atlanta any time this calendar year that track had to be wet. a tip of the hat to drive in that moving parking lot, in the dark, and possibly wet. that looked insane. I couldn't even figure out where you were until 10A/B
2/26/2020 11:48:46 AM
TKE, no only GTS and certain hot climate regions get the center radiator. Mine is a PDK and no center. Apparently oil temps can break 260F in a 20min session without it. Coolant also cools the PDK clutch fluid and gearbox fluid so i want to make to keep that cool and happy. I run with a regional club up here, COMSCC, that runs a Time Trial which is pretty fun. It's pretty competitive, its where all the fast guys go when they get bored with BMWCCA, PCA, etc.^^Ha, that is wild. I did the Lemons 24 at CMP two years ago. It was my first time at CMP, first time in that car, and my first stint was in the dark. I was about to sign up for this year's but the team decided to bail on it.
2/28/2020 12:12:01 AM
How many dollar bills did it cost for you to run in LeMons? Was it just search online for a time, cough uonthe money, strap in and drive?_______I’m heading up to Birmingham tonight to run Barber Motorsports Park all weekend with ReZoom.
2/28/2020 6:09:00 PM
Lost brakes twice at Barber this weekend going into turn 5. In both cases, I had backed off a LOT for a lap to let the tires cool down (in the 2nd instance, I'd also pulled in and taken a slow ride down pit road). Went back out, started picking the pace back up, and had the pedal go to the floor into 5. Rapid pedal pumping got enough braking force to avoid going off the track. After the first one (yesterday afternoon), we pulled the master cylinder cap off, pumped the pedal, and immediately got some bubbles. No further issues today, until the last 10 minutes of the last session, when it did it again.Any ideas?I'm running Powerstop Track Day Spec pads and Motul fluid, flushed 6 weeks ago. Oh, and the fluid is much darker in color than it was even yesterday.
3/1/2020 10:40:01 PM
What were the ambient temps those days? And what tires - Nitto NT01s?Maybe start by trying some Ti shims to keep the heat out of your fluid a bit. And/or look for some ducting options.
3/2/2020 9:48:33 AM
probably boiled the fluid. you may benefit from some cheap brake ducts from aircraft hose. I had similar happen at VIR in turn 1 with my m3, even letting off at the kink. eventually I had to just back it in because I couldn't slow down enough to get a clean line. I was only using superblue though, on a 3800lbs car at that. if you're boiling over with that motul660, ducts and bigger disks are probably in your future[Edited on March 2, 2020 at 11:34 AM. ^^^I would check the track section over on http://www.FT86club.com^His brake system is oversized for his car's weight/power - esp in mild weather. But I could see it be possible that airflow isn't sufficient.
