i dunno man. again, look at the physical ability of Ethan and the physical strength of the folks that imprisoned michael, jin, and sawyer. That one black guy kicked the crap out of all 3 of them...and none of those guys are wussy. My vote is that the others are part of the genetic research project on the island, or have somehow been genetically effected by what's goin on the island. their strength just seems super-human.
10/6/2005 11:29:44 PM
Michael was a wimp, I mean you see this HUGE guy coming at you, Sawyer(the only wounded one) tries to fight back and the other two just stand there and look, given Jin was tied up, but Michael didn't fight back, didn't run, nothing, just stood there and took it like a chump.

I bet the whole plane crash and what not was an experiment. The entire show is an experiment, both on the viewers and on the entire cast. Dharma wanted to see how people would react given the situation they were put in.

just a couple of thoughts on the inclusion of The Turn of the Screw. First, from what I remember, and looked up online real quick, the book centers around the question of what is reality? In the story the main character "sees" ghosts, but it is never fully realized if they are in fact real, or if they are a creation of her own psychosis. This plays right into the show's mystery and ambiguity, and brings up the question of what is real, a question that seemed to come up a lot in Wednesday's episode.Second, I believe, the move "The Others" (hmmmmm...) is loosly based on the book. The movie shows the "reality" of the main characters, only to reveal in the end that their reality is not what it seems (I won't spoil the ending for anyone that hasn't seen it). This is also a fitting plot/twist that works well with the series, and the idea that the survivor's reality is not truely reality (i.e. pergatory, social experiment/truman show theories).
10/7/2005 2:23:59 AM
it is not purgatory
10/7/2005 2:30:43 AM
10/7/2005 2:33:04 AM
i didn't say it was, just that the idea of "reality" (the island) actually being something else (pergatory, a social experiment, whatever) is a key twist in "The Others", and that the question of "what is reality?" is a key part of the The Turn of the Screw. Both seem to fit well with how the show has panned out so far. It would be interesting if anyone who has a more intimate knowledge of the book and watches the show had anything to add.[Edited on October 7, 2005 at 2:39 AM. Reason : including names to not be ambiguous]
10/7/2005 2:37:47 AM
Why not push the button?Unless you have some great reason not to do it, it'd be better to ere on the side of cation. If I was just one person on the island and I was there indefinably I'd say "fuck it". But being there with 40 other people, it'd be pretty easy to set something up to make sure that button gets pushed and no one has to go crazy in the process.
10/7/2005 5:49:19 AM
But then again, there is the possibility that the Dharma people have it setup so they know when it's pushed to see how long the experiment goes. If they miss pressing the button maybe they go to the island and see what happened or to explain the experiment to the person working there and get all of their stuff out. So it might kill them(highly unlikely) or it might get them saved(also the likelihood is slim since the project has been running forever).

There was a picture in the hatch of Desmond and a girl. I kinda thought it might be Sarah at first too, but its hard to tell. There has to be some significance to that picture with them showing it to us.

jesus christ, I watch the show while I juggle conversations with friends and while reading websites and I catch more than you guysI mean, it's obviously one of the MAIN reasons why Jack went tearing off after Desmond when he ran out of the bunker[Edited on October 7, 2005 at 2:48 PM. Someone please tell me where I said that it was unequivocally her, because I don't fucking remember typing it. Easy for Lokken to roll his eyes, I guess, when he's fucking illiterate and can't understand "most likely."and Woodfoot I mentioned it because up to this point, no one else had said anything about it.especially since:1. It was an obvious point of contention for Jack - given his reaction - to tear off after Desmond into the jungle2. Several fansites listed this as specifically "a picture of Desmond and Sarah" in their show summaries[Edited on October 7, 2005 at 4:31 PM. Reason : .]
