Pretty sure MGM, Bellagio, and Mandalay Bay all had minimums. Both my home games do. It's usually $60 for 1-2 nl.

You are referring to minimum buy-in limits not minimum stack sizes

Yeh here in AC it's either 60 or 40 minimum for 1/2. I really wish they'd make the min like at least 50bb. It's annoying having to deal w/ the short stacks.

Ooooooooooooooh. My b. Yeah, never played in a game with minimum stack size. Very annoying if you are waiting for a seat in home game.

It just really distorts the game when you have tiny stacks at the table.

You get in a lot of situations where say a bad player that has $300 in chips raises to $10 preflop and you call with a marginal starting hand like ~10-8 suited and then before you can even see a flop you have to dodge 2-3 short stacks behind you who are looking to push with 9-9 or better

Obviously their strategy might not be optimal once they get below a certain size stack but it really distorts the game particularly when half the table plays like this these days.

Don't get me wrong, I love buying in the minimum in laggy 2-5 and 5-10 games and pushing my hands but I admit that its gay and my real complaint is once they are significantly below the min buy-in they just sit there and tie up the game until they bust or double

I have decided to start a new quest.

1. Download random poker client. COMPLETE
2. Do not deposit money, but instead win money playing only free rolls.
3. Make $10,000 by playing cash games with winnings from (2) above.
4. Cash out and buy something cool with winnings.

^ That's the way to do it! I got up to 250 once using all freeroll money and got greedy and played with all of it at once. That's the reason I don't gamble. I'm a good player, I just can't manage the money at the table.

^^haha, nice

Yeah I like to do stuff like that but I don't think I could get to $10K anytime soon. I'm still rolling off the $5.50 my buddy shipped me a couple weeks ago, got it up to $155 right now, would've probably added a decent amount if I didn't get donked out of that tourney above. I usually try to get it up to a few hundo and cash out, this is how I bought my Evo and my ipod, I'm gonna try to get to about $1200 this time and get a new macbook.

good call, i know nothing about poker

also semi-bluffing people in a low level sit in go almost never works, ask anyone who knows anything about poker. its usually better to let the bad players who play at that level hang themselves when you hit something

I guess we just have 2 different styles, that's an insta-shove all day for me on that flop considering I'm heads up and out of position with an open ended straight draw and there were no raises preflop.

lol, why would I lie about a $5 tournament?

it's under my buddy's name "asianricecooker," he let me buy in to a few tournaments last night off his bankroll, gave me a few pointers along the way, but he let me play my game and he was passed out before I even made the final table, I left him $1500 and shipped myself $2K which I think is pretty fair.

^no way I'm folding there, you played it perfectly IMO. Most likely up against a flush draw, maybe J9, maybe set of 5's, maybe a donk that can't get off his AJ. Obviously the only hand we are really worried about here is JJ. I think it would definitely be -EV to fold here.

If the guy announces JJ and shows you a black jack, consider folding. Because the other jack could be red or black and there's just no way you can no which one... without a better read it's really 50-50 as to whether its black or red...

^it's the type of hand you can bust a lot of big hands with

I'm certainly not coming into the pot with a raise and have to fold to a reraise. Also, it was a super stack tourney with plenty of chips to play with, and I like to try to get stacked early in the tourney if possible.

I was representing a big hand, that's why I re-raised on the flop and shoved the turn, rather than donk shoving the flop. It looks much stronger. This idiot just didn't know when to fold.

Nah it wasn't a bad play, I'm not check/calling there on the flop and turn when I put him on a marginal/draw hand (possible position bet since he was last to act) and I think I can get him to fold. I was spot on, he just made a horrendous call and got extremely lucky that I not only didn't have the huge hand I was representing, but my monster draw didn't get there either and yet he was still behind until the river hit him.

Well, my quest for free money has taken some hits. I was in a freeroll last Sunday, 5th in chips after a couple blind levels (about 3,800 people total) when my wife told me, "Hey, we need to go to the hospital, my water just broke." I was like all at the same time.

We got to the hospital and got settled in. I pulled out my computer through the hospital Wi-Fi and still had some chips, and managed to get my stack back up to a respectable amount, but eventually busted out in 45th place, so still no free money.

Anyway, 2 days later, we had a beautiful baby girl. She was born with a ton of hair that has formed itself into a natural mohawk. She is really awesome. Life is quite hectic right now but I am still committed to my goal of turning $0 into $10,000.

^^^a pair with a gutshot straight flush draw gives me quite a few outs even if he happened to have a made hand (and I highly doubted that based on his bet/position and the plethora of possible draw hands)

Well it took a good bit of reading but I'm good at casino poker again.

Having such a strong limit background always hurt my NL game because i was too focused on not giving free cards instead of protecting my stack. Also I fell in love with the maniacal image game that a few of my buddies play and tried to emulate it without having a solid enough understanding of SPR or just general postflop skills.

Successful big scores in Vegas and Ft Lauderdale on my trips the last two months.

I'd like to get to the point where I feel more comfortable at the 5/10 and 10/25 NL games, but I always feel like a good bit of those players just have too much experience advantage over me because of the millions of hands they've logged online.

Does anyone here play relatively high limit live games? There's a 10/25 NL game in FL that is calling my name but I figured it'd be more rewarding if I won the $ to buy myself in first rather than dumping a few grand in a game I might not be able to hang in yet.

bankroll mgt is #1

when i used to play more often id play 5/10 nl and 20/40 limit mixed, but a buddy of mine had half of my action which made it more comfortable.

if you are playing 10/25 nl your br should be at least 150k imo

[Edited on November 16, 2010 at 11:34 PM. Reason : if limit ws your game it is not wise to go from lhe to nlhe in a limit you arent comfortable with]

I'm not really worried about it, I'm satisfied with the way I played the hand. And I definitely don't agree with everything I read on 2+2.
