I would be inclined to support Roy Cooper normally but his bullshit has kept the boat ramps closed and just caused overcrowding at other boat ramps which is not good for social distancing. Instead we the little people get to wait in ridiculous lines in larger crowds while many perfectly good boat ramps have the gates locked and the state park workers are still getting paid for doing no work. If his little pea brain was working he would realize that most people on a boat are with members of their household and that is a legal social distancing activity that can only be done part of the year......

Then we could go on another rant about how he has singled out bars without kitchens to remain closed while others get to be packed to capacity....I dont have the energy.

I will either not vote for governor or vote for Dan Forest but will not be voting for Roy Cooper. He is too aloof and detached from most working people and cant effectively govern with no fucking clue about what is going on. I am all for a Democratic governor but we need one that acts like he has been outside of the house before....maybe some common sense to go with the law school degree...

Alabama, Clemson, Iowa State, Houston, Auburn, Oklahoma State, WVU, UCF, FSU, etc.

Those all have at least 1 confirmed case since players came back on campus. One school told the FR that weren't already on campus to not come to school yet. Feel like every team is going to be reporting cases as kids arrive to campus, I expect NC State and UNC will probably have some cases once we start testing.

That's not what has really been pitched so far, but it's still remains to be seen what each league settles on. The pros were quick to say that one positive test wouldn't shut a team down, so I imagine college will be similar. Could see isolating positive tests and then having to have a confirmed negative test before they return to the team. I can't imagine college teams doing weekly testing(would be the ideal scenario), but I imagine they'll have to do some amount of regular testing and not just waiting for someone to show symptoms to test them after they have a chance to infect more people on the team.

^^^ I actually work up at Falls Lake and also wish all the boat ramps would open up instead of funneling everyone to the NC Wildlife ramps with hour+ waits. BUT, I definitely wouldn't say the park workers are getting paid to do nothing, if anything they're working harder than usual. Trying to enforce rules has been crazy. Go check out beaverdam lake, it's a zoo out there on the weekends.

Mandatory masks at NC State as of July 1

Quote :
"June 15, 2020

NC State community:

Effective July 1 and throughout at least the fall 2020 semester, face coverings will be required to be worn by students, faculty, staff and visitors in all NC State buildings and in all university programs held in nonuniversity buildings. This includes face coverings being worn at all times in classrooms and laboratories.

Face coverings will also be required in outdoor spaces on campus property where appropriate physical distancing cannot be guaranteed.

Face covering exceptions include private offices and residence hall rooms when alone or with a roommate. Individuals are also not required to wear a face covering when they are not in close contact with someone else, such as walking alone in an uncrowded outdoor location.

Everyone on campus is expected to carry a face covering at all times, in case they encounter an unforeseen situation where at least 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. Such situations are likely to occur in hallways, stairwells, elevators, restrooms, kitchens and break rooms, for example.

NC State will provide face coverings to all students, faculty and staff who need them. Individuals can also choose to wear their own face coverings.

Additional information about the fall semester will be released in the coming days.

Thank you for your commitment to keeping NC State safe, healthy and strong."

So this pretty much guarantees no fans for college football at the very least, if the season even starts on time.

^To be fair, the article makes it sound like they wanted more of a guarantee of fans in the stands and with our trends they don't expect Cooper to allow them to have fans. Tennessee seems to be allowing fans at large events so I definitely understand the appeal of moving. They even said as some states open up they'll be considering moving events to where they can have fans.

But I meant how are people going to wear masks WHILE dining in a big room?

For instance, what if they wanted to go to Fountain Dining Hall and treat themselves to a hamburger with bun?

We were talking about this. Formal education is only part of the reason you attend college... I am not so sure there is ROI paying university tuition for a largely online experience & strict limits on social interaction. I think young people will navigate it just fine...it would just really suck to be that age and bet told to stay home, no sports, no events, etc.

I am totally fine either being at my house, one of my vacation properties, or on my boat.....would not have been fine wit that 15 years ago. I would have literally lost my shit.

Was thinking how ugly July 4th could get, what with all these “patriots” we have running around, if a second wave hits sometime in early to mid-June.

If you think there is a possibility of a bad second wave, what are you doing to prepare now for your family or community? We’ve slowly started rebuilding a stockpile of Lysol, and food to a degree, but that’s it. What else are people doing?

Yeah I have pretty much had that feeling all along. Too many moving parts and people involved in just team travel alone, let alone game day logistics and the fact that pretty much every D-1 coach and ref is probably considered high risk.

The entire college experience will be different. I know UNC starts earlier and has no fall break, so classes can end at Thanksgiving. Students then return middle of January.

As for dining halls, it’s basically boxed conference food and a single student per table. Capacity of the dining hall is restricted to 10%.

Gym basketball courts and such are being used to host really large classes. Small classes will use auditorium halls for proper distancing.

Even though most of those get to know you events were lame- Wolfstock, assassins, etc- all of that is gone. No getting to speak to that one hot person all class like it’s the best thing that has ever happened to you.

That said, I bet cheating will be reduced. Hard to eyeball a test from 4 seats away.

Yea we are discussing how to do it at UNC right now and it ain't gonna be pretty. Basically the students really want to be back on campus but I don't think they are going to like it when they come back. Here's why:

1) Chapel Hill Transit is going to limit the buses to 10 people tops and 15 on the articulated buses. They don't have enough extra buses and drivers to just double all the routes, so they are going to cut like half the bus routes and focus on the busy routes, pulling those other buses and doubling the busy routes. How is this going to affect park and ride lots and people who already live on those less busy routes? Fuck if I know, but that is the plan. I think the students who live farther off will grow weary of this and just opt to do classes online. I see the transit plan as untenable. I hope students get bikes, scooters, or a plan to get somebody to drop them off on campus. They want parking spots but damn staff and faculty don't even get parking spots. I worked here eight years before I got one (I could have paid for a park and ride spot but lived on a bus route)! Park and ride isn't really going to help the students. There might be a few staff/faculty that don't come on campus or do occasionally so there may be some flexibility, but not much.

2) Dining Halls on our campus are going to be for on campus students only. Not a big deal for my students as we are a professional school so few of them used them really anyways. To help supplement this I think they are going to try to get food trucks to come around more frequently and be littered around campus. Idea being to distribute the dining around campus rather than having it focused on just a couple of places.

3) To give students space we are talking about getting tents setup around campus. The dining spaces were already tight and that was before social distancing. When weather is shitty or cold I doubt these will go over well.

4) Classes are going to try to dedicate a room per group a day at least for us. Basically the students will just stay in that room to try to minimize cross contamination (at least for us but we have some autonomy from undergrad). I'm sure this will get old for the students as well. There are also limits on how many can be a room keeping in mind spacing. They will have to wear masks the whole time. Professors may not depending on how close they are to the students. For recording and distance ed purposes they are going to be tough to hear with a face mask on as mic pickup really goes to shit with the mouth covered. Older and less healthy faculty are very concerned about being in the room with students, but the students really want the faculty in person. I believe some will just teach remotely but students and TA's might be in room with the option to join remotely.

5) Exams will be remote again. Students aren't thrilled about this as they are concerned about cheating. The online proctoring options lock down your one device, but if you have another device nearby it doesn't do shit about that and if you aren't onsite it is much harder to confirm that. Students that were already making good grades are really concerned about cheating and equity in testing (if I take it onsite and you take it online is that fair?) and have been pretty vocal about that.

6) As of right now they think they can do sports with fans in the stands but I'm not sure if the Governor will get involved in that decision. On 60 Minutes Bubba said they are discussing social distancing enforcement or having fans naturally social distance. Fans that are inebriated and celebrating are not going to social distance on their own. They will have to have security or attendees enforce that, no way around it, in my opinion. So on the plus side the students might get to have the sports experience, but I'm not sure how happy they are going to be having to wear face masks and stay at arms length from each other. Plus I would assume they will cut the capacity to a half or a third of usual to get better spacing. The problem I foresee is that everybody will just all move as close as possible and not stay in the assigned seats. But with no asses in the seats for football/basketball athletics is going to be so in the red it don't be funny.

7) Fall break will happen but the idea is to encourage students to stay on campus and not have them travel all over the country. If students test positive they will have to move to a Covid-19 dorm on campus. Grad/off campus students will just quarantine at their apartment, but no clue what happens if they have roommates.

I think it will be a shit show and continue to be one until an effective vaccine is approved and distributed. If you missed if Kevin and Bubba were on 60 Minutes on Sunday discussing this all.

Have you talked to UNC fans lately? They think they're going to win 10+ games and win the Coastal. If they win the first 2 games they're going to 100% be ranked, and as much as I hate UNC, their football fans are extremely fair-weather. When their football team is ranked, they'll be happy to fill the stands, particularly now that they've reduced capacity over the last few years.

I just don't know how seating can work for college sports. If you reduce capacity by 50%, do you still give the allotment to the opposing team? Do you cut out the students(free seats) or the season-ticket holders($$$)?

Haha yea wonder if those estimated attendance totals at Kenan will change at all this season.

But yea just giving ya'll an insight from somebody working on this shit day in and day out. The students want to be on campus, the finance department want them paying to be on campus, but I don't think anybody is going to be happy when they are back. They really should just go virtual until we have a vaccine and its widely distributed, but nobody can afford to skip a year waiting on the vaccine so we are in this debacle now.

I handle compliance duties for my rugby club, and that is what's being sent down from USA Rugby as part of them complying with government guidelines if we want to start back playing in August. One teammate testing positive wipes out anyone he played with for 2 weeks - both his team and who he played against.

(As part of being Compliance Officer, I'm going to have to record the temperatures of every single player at practices and games. Oh joy.)

Now USA Rugby are small fry in comparison to the NFL and college football who will probably get a more lenient set of rules from governments, but based on the teleconference we had a week or two ago, we're probably not even going to be allowed to go play in different jurisdictions if they are at a different phase from us. So if my state Indiana is at phase 3 of reopening and Ohio is at phase 2 of reopening, we might not even be allowed to schedule a game with an Ohio club because of items like "2 weeks quarantine per Ohio state government" that would occur for the players on the Ohio club post-game. This same thing we were told was true if say a county was further back not just for clubs but also for individual players that live in those counties, so it's not just interstate, it's intrastate as well.

Again, the NFL and college football authorities I'm sure will do everything they can to ensure these rules do not apply to them, but I don't think we can automatically say every team is going to make it through the season playing all games as scheduled. Of the 150 total football teams that are NFL or FBS, one or two has to have an outbreak amongst its players you'd think. What scares me is everyone is going to want to play and not cause a problem, so I'm concerned about the unspoken peer pressure to not report "hey, I'm positive for Covid", and then a much larger outbreak of it occurs for that reason. Rudy Gobert's legacy regardless of what he does the rest of his career is Covid and he shut down American pro sports. Nobody wants to be him. Temperature checks, those can be easily beaten if that's all the team doctor is doing.

Regarding TX, AZ, FL and CA... is there any data that makes us think we won’t see a massive uptick in deaths there in the next 1-4 weeks? I’ve seen some anecdotal data that it is a much younger mean age in this subset who are testing positive but I haven’t seen the raw data to back that up?

Anyone know where I can find that?
