This has happened to me a couple of times. I was driving around downtown/East Raleigh lost at night, in a older car desperately in need of a wash. Get pulled over. The look of surprise on the officer's face was the biggest clue. They come up to my window and see a well dressed 20-something white kid instead of whatever they were expecting.

A friend who's an officer explained that an older, dirty vehicle driving around under the speed limit in a bad part of town is probably a large part of why they pulled me.

i got lost in a shitty part of Sanford on the way to a meeting and got pulled over. the cop probably thought i was there to buy drugs or something, he told me that i shouldn't drive a nice car through that neighborhood and handed me my license and told me to leave.

DWI. I've charged people with Murder, Rape, Burglary etc and they never involved as much paperwork, casework or courtroom testimony. On a weekend night, it can take hours to process.

^^Yeah I don't think you're technically supposed to cross the white line although everyone does it. Some left turns you can't ever make the turn unless you do it on yellow just before it turns red.

That statute sounds like it doesnt really apply to those in a (left) turning lane that are somewhat in the intersection waiting for opposing traffic to pass and/or stop for the light. Its for the douchebags and ditzes who pull up behind stopped traffic right in the intersection and once the light changes blocks perpendicular traffic from moving. Even my old driving instructor from high school said to do that so you can at least 'process' one vehicle once it goes to yellow/red and the opposing cars stop, otherwise the cars in the turn lane would never move at a busy intersection. In Driver's Ed, we were taught to pull into the intersection, but not to turn the wheel yet. It was called "claiming the intersection". Don't remember anything about not being the first vehicle.

I will still be an LEO here till the end of July. Just bailing out of this State to go work for a larger municipality in the DC area. So while I go through the certification process put there I won't have any police powers for about 6 months; guess I better not drive too fast. I've been working for the State of NC for almost 2 years and hate it. I've worked some great cases and with some awesome people, but my passion is being on the front lines and miss doing it. I'm actually pretty well off in a federal process - which seems like the next logical step - but I doubt I will be happy doing the mission. As much flak as street cops get, it's what I love (and hate) to do and the world needs good cops out there.
