here's to not falling apart, but we look great.
11/13/2011 7:15:58 PM
i know, i know, it's been against scrubs, but i think we're looking like a much better team so far.
11/13/2011 8:04:47 PM
not sure how literally you meant scrubs but I think both those teams (UNC-A for sure) are top ~200 teams. In years past we've had nailbiters with some of the worst teams (300+) in D-1.So that's definitely a step in the right direction. We played UNC-A about as tough as UNC did today (granted we had them at home not on the road and UNC did travel a lot).Right now we're still looking like a bubble team. That's a pretty large improvement in such short amount of time. Not to mention we're loaded next year, especially if CJL isn't ready to go pro yet.
11/13/2011 8:09:55 PM
Yeah, this team would never lose to New Orleans or ECU.Despite not having a clue who Gottfried was when he was hired, I'm pretty glad we have him instead of Gregggggggg Marshall right now.
11/13/2011 8:11:28 PM
credible as fuck
11/13/2011 8:47:21 PM
looking good so far.boastboastboast and ibtfirstloss
11/13/2011 8:52:30 PM
I like the team a lot. Though IMO, 3 areas need a lot of work:1) using the backboard instead of weak, finger rolls. Too many missed layups last game due to this. Backboard layups have got to be the highest percentage shot.2) big men winning battles on the block, both defense and offense, especially offense.3) defense overall; it was better tonight, but every now and then I'm just flabbergasted at how we can look so lost on defense
11/13/2011 8:58:35 PM
i'm waiting for skokiaan to come in here and punch gottfried in the jaw

11/13/2011 10:08:01 PM
great dilbert impression! +1
11/13/2011 10:11:48 PM
Credible as can be. I love the system and intensity. Still a bubble team, if that, but they are going to be fun to watch this year at least, win or lose. I mean watching the way they play is fun, though it's never fun to be losing. But if we are it seems like we will be getting beat, rather than being lazy and beating ourselves.4 obvious points of credibilityhe lets them play morehis substitution patterns arent WTF???he doesn't look confused the entire game like the old coachoh... and RECRUITING baby!
11/14/2011 2:17:43 PM
+he doesn't yell/scream/whistle incessantly from the sideline
11/14/2011 2:29:53 PM
I'm on the Gottfried train. Hope we do well and he stays with us for many many years.
11/14/2011 2:33:26 PM
When Lowe first came to Raleigh, one thing he was supposedly going to institute above-and-beyond what Herb did was an up-tempo NBA styled offense. I don't want to talk about that, but I did want to point out that over the past 5 years, I think we've only have 3 games where we scored over 90 points. Obviously we have two thus far. It's really hard not to make wild assumptions about this team when you see such vast improvement.
11/14/2011 3:28:45 PM
Will we be competitive in the ACC Championship? Who knows. But we will certainly be better than we were under Coach Lowe.
11/14/2011 3:44:33 PM
let's not kid ourselves. if you've been burdened by having to see every basketball game for the past 20 years at ncstate, you can honestly say you haven't seen something so refreshing as this in quite a long damn time.
11/14/2011 3:48:38 PM
very credible, especially when compared to Lowe who is on the shortlist of worst coaches in ACC history
11/14/2011 3:49:10 PM
^With the pace that Gottfried runs these kids, they should do better than Sendek's teams. Their endurance *should* be much better for the repeated gameplay.
11/14/2011 3:49:16 PM
Was at the game last night, we looked so fluid out there. Very interested to see where we're at after leaving New Jersey.]

Gottfried: Right man at the right time for N.C. State?http://acc.blogs.starnewsonline.com/26293/26293/

11/14/2011 8:39:11 PM
just put my money where my mouth is. splurged a shit load on some great UNC tickets feb 21st.
11/14/2011 9:41:44 PM
you jumped the gun there, but i like the enthusiasm.
11/14/2011 9:42:58 PM
11/14/2011 9:44:12 PM
Does no one remember how jacked some folks here were when we got Lowe? Have some perspective. I like the man, too, but two wins vs horseshit teams does not a dynasty make.
11/14/2011 9:44:28 PM
^^^broke the god damn bankbut my throat wont be able to make a noise for 6 god damn weeks after that game if i have anything to do with it. its gonna be loud as shit in there.^ lol thats the exact reason actually. i did the same that year also. and it payed off and we actually upset them then. i guess you forgot. no you didnt forget. its the internet. you have a perfect recollection of all history. of course. how silly of methere comes a time in a mans life where he either has to invest or to continue to dabble and pretend and keep beating around the bush. consider me 'all-in' on gottfried. I don't think you can call both teams "horeshit" teams, but they certainly aren't quality. Morehead St. was a top 100 RPI team last season, but they did lose a few starters and this was their first game of the season. UNC-Ashville had 4 returning starters from last season's top 150 RPI team. Before you start shitting on them, consider that last season we were ranked 125 in the RPI ratings with a MUCH harder schedule than those guys (hard opponent = better RPI ranking) and lost to Maryland (RPI = 98) and UVA (RPI = 141).I'm not going so far as to say "we would have lost to one of these teams last year", but we obviously got beat by worse teams than our two "horseshit" opponents so far this year.
11/15/2011 8:57:09 AM
unfortunately it looks like our OOC schedule was not as difficult as i had imagined... vanderbilt is severely overrated, and morehead state is currently losing to college of charleston
11/15/2011 9:16:24 AM
There is no question that Morehead State is a bad team. But it was the way we played that was so encouraging.1) We got out to an early lead and kept building on it.2)The offense was very consistent and well run. I heard that we had 30 assists on 40 baskets.3)We looked like a normal team should when breaking the press.[Edited on November 15, 2011 at 9:23 AM. Reason : 1]

11/15/2011 9:22:55 AM
I remember being kind of excited when they had that little rally thing at the soccer field.
11/15/2011 9:24:48 AM
Wasn't even a soccer field then! No one remembers anything!
11/15/2011 9:25:39 AM
11/15/2011 9:26:14 AM
^^ you right
11/15/2011 9:26:43 AM
Just because Vanderbilt had a wiff, don't mistake that for "they're over rated". UNC lost to College of Charleston in 2005 when they won the National Championship. I wouldn't go into the Vanderbilt game assuming anything.
11/15/2011 9:28:27 AM
WHAT A WIFFERRRRR
11/15/2011 9:41:44 AM
^^ Actually UNC lost to Santa Clara to start off their 2004-2005 season. They lost to the College of Charleston a few years ago in OT when Goudlock went off on them. That was the year when they were severely overrated to begin the season and actually finished with the same conference record as us. Despite being terrible, we still could not beat them that year.
11/15/2011 11:02:28 AM
OOPS, you're absolutely right. Santa Clara beat them, but that still proves the same point. Santa Clara finished the '04-'05 season with a record of 14-16 (8-8 in the West Coast conference). They were not a good team at all, but early on in the season, shit happens.
11/15/2011 11:07:14 AM
you know what else happened the night Santa Clara beat them?the Palace Brawl
11/15/2011 11:08:10 AM
Malice at the Palace is the preferred nomenclature
11/15/2011 11:41:32 AM
was trying to think of it, couldn't risk googling it and having to go back and edit in some ^^s if someone posted before me
11/15/2011 11:50:31 AM
Felton didnt play that night either. That kinda matters.
11/15/2011 12:15:33 PM
yup
11/16/2011 9:31:23 PM
Ehhh I'll go ahead and toss in a credibility point
11/16/2011 9:33:21 PM
^^^ still no excuse
11/16/2011 9:35:35 PM
Credible
