i drink beer to get calories for the day. i'm sure it has a negligible impact on any gains/losses.

i managed 200g of protein yesterday dang shrimp have a lot of protein!i had 1 beer yesterday & 1 beer today. both totally unavoidable but i was able to limit it to one. i have survived 3 restaurants in the past 2 days & have managed to continue my insanity routine & mostly maintain my diet. my bf is visiting which has made it a little more tricky to keep on my diet schedule but i will give him props for making me breakfast this morning & measuring out my portions like i would have done & also stopping at walmart to get a snack with me since i had no snacks handy & lunch with his dad was 2-3 hours away. i got an apple and greek yogurt instead of the "easy" route of fast food junk or just waiting & being too hungry to control myselfstill holding steady at 129.5 from 131, dipped to 129 on sunday but given my challenges the past 2 days, i'll take .5 gain & it'll be 128 or 128.5 by next weekend!im maintaining a calorie deficit but not big enough to make the 1lb a week loss so i need to step that up a little to keep a better clip of weight loss, or just ride my bike more often since i can torch 1000 calories no problem on that sucker
6/15/2010 8:17:08 PM
i wish i could measure my weight that accurately!i fluctuate 3-4 lbs morning to morning!
6/15/2010 8:51:35 PM
Joie, I'm the same way. I can be 146 one day, 150 the next, 148 the next, 147 the next. It's almost never consistent.
6/15/2010 8:53:12 PM
i measure my weight week to week. not only does that help with the daily fluctuations, but it also helps when setting some weekly short term goals.plus you dont get caught up as easily in the number

i kicked ass on my food stuff today under on calories/fat/cholesterol/sodium/carbsover on sugar <--- really need to work on that one!slightly over on fiber and wicked over on protein (but they only recommend 35 for my diet, and i was at 102... so more in the range that i should be in for my activity level - i think)
6/15/2010 10:03:17 PM
my weight is insanely consistenti hardly have fluctuations anymore. usually what is on the scale is a good measure for me

My weight has fluctuated 5+ lbs today.[Edited on June 15, 2010 at 10:32 PM. Reason : Girlfriend made chocolate chocolate chip cookies tonight too -- it'll be closer to 8 by bedtime.]

6/16/2010 12:53:38 AM
^you need to teach me how to consistently eat more than 2000 cals/day, I've scared myself out of doing it...I know I can't/shouldn't diet long periods of time at very low intake...I'm better off eating ~2400/day not 1500 but I can't seem to willpower myself to it for fear of gaining fat
6/16/2010 7:04:11 AM
I want someone to be honest with me - tell me if I just gained stuff back or if I'm all bloated and stuff from the way I ate this weekendmy waist stayed the same but my tummy area went up in size by an inch! I have felt pretty awful the past few days so I'm not sure what's going on... I would have to eat an insane amount to gain an inch of fat back, right? Saturday was my worst day, probably 2500-3000 calories once you add up all the yummy food and beer >.< Sunday wasn't terrible, but I was probably around 2000-2500........ Blah
6/16/2010 8:09:24 AM
Don't forget rule #4!Also, this is why I say people should focus on fitness goals rather than body composition goals. Stress has a detrimental affect on your body. If you focus on times when you "feel bloated" or "gain an inch or a pound" then you're never going to go anywhere. If you like running, for example, then instead of making your goal to lose a dress size or 10 pounds, make it to lower your 3 mile time from 30 minutes down to 25 minutes. It will take your mind off your body, and once you finish hitting that fitness goal, I'm quite sure that you'll notice you've also hit your weight loss target as well.
6/16/2010 8:28:19 AM
I know, but it's a little hard to be all bright eyed and bushy tailed about it when it took me a while to lose that inchbut I am going to be honest with myself and admit I ate like absolute crap this weekend so I guess if that's what it is, I'll just have to buckle down
6/16/2010 8:32:46 AM
or just increase your exercise
6/16/2010 8:34:23 AM
god, you have a good point and a very logical one at thatunfortunately girls are not logical creatures when it comes to weight (ok and a bunch of other things too)sam, something like 3500 calories = 1 lb (pros feel free to correct me, i know im close!) so to gain weight is not crazy esp if you know you were badare you tracking your calories with an online tool? since ive been doing it i really think about everything i eat much more than i did. 1 inch is a big gain-- when was the base measurement taken? i'd give it a couple days, drink a lot of water and focus on your macro goal and not lose focus. measure again in 5-7 days and see what happens

6/16/2010 8:44:17 AM
It is much easier to starve one's self than to exercise vigorously (like, really vigorously).
6/16/2010 8:44:42 AM
6/16/2010 8:47:08 AM
It would have been a matter of three days or so to increase that inch. Which is why I'm all bummed out. I know 3500 cals = 1 lb but that's why I figured I'd ask someone if I'm even being rational... It was two days this weekend that caused the increase - last week I was eating fine and working outI track my stuff using "Lose It" on my iPod.. it keeps me in check(This weekend was our engagement party on Saturday, then Eric's niece's bday party/dinner at Outback on Sunday... hence all the bad for you food )
6/16/2010 8:49:23 AM
don't be so hard on yourself... this challenge is longer than two days. You can recover... No one is here to judge. I had no choice but to eat some pizza and drink a beer last night (friends visit from out of town)... It looks like I gained a pound from that. Ok, so just keep following your plan and it will come back off. No biggie.
6/16/2010 9:01:21 AM
Or, you can be thankful you had a fun weekend with friends and family, and get back to your routine of eating healthy and exercising Its a marathon, not a sprint, afterall--I've decided to enter this contest. Here's a pic I took after the gym yesterdayI want to get more mass in my arms, but not sure what other goals to make besides getting up to 200 while maintaining good physiche[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 9:05 AM. I think I'm being so hard on myself because it was an inch, not a pound... but I am starting to realize I am way too hard on myself anyways negative body image ftl.I plan on lifting lots tonight.. maybe it'll make me feel better
6/16/2010 9:06:46 AM
I'm saying this proverbially, The hardest force you have to overcome when trying to better yourself is you.Your own limitations, your own fears, your own weaknesses. You can run faster than you think you can. You can look better than you think you can. You can change. You just have to believe it.
6/16/2010 9:12:18 AM
It does sound like you need to get better at making selections at restaurants/when you're tempted with bad food. Outback is a perfect example, because you're tempted by the Bloomin' Onion and cheese fries. They have some stuff on their menu that you can eat and not feel horrible about though. The best thing to do is plan out your meal before going to the restaurant. http://www.outback.com/menu/nutritionselection.aspx

Yeah, contrary to popular belief, a lot of people don't eat enough food. They usually eat too little of the wrong food.

I JUST SAID how I ate for two days straight.I'm not going to try to justify myself to you -- I am being completely honest when I say I ate like a total lard ass this weekend. What more do you freaking wantNot to mention, I think some of my workouts would make the average person cry (thanks begonias) so I don't EVEN want to hear your stuff. You talk about encouraging others, you're only doing damage by being mean when I know I've been working hard and fell off the wagon for a few days.Did I continue to eat like shit into this week? No. So leave me alone.[Edited on June 16, 2010 at 9:50 AM. Reason : AND I just wrote how the size went down. Damn, let it go.][Edited on June 16, 2010 at 9:56 AM. Reason : Week, not weekend >_>]

I'm sorry! Samwise16, I apologize if I offended you! I was agreeing with you, and I was posting that article again just to show everyone that it's important to do what you are doing.I just want to say that you're getting nothing but love here. Tough love, but love.

Dear Samwise16,The only thing you're doing wrong is not coming to Lifestyle and saying "Hello" to Quinn and I. I think if you get back on that train, you'll notice a decrease is waist size and an increase in overall happiness.THINK IT OVER!

Don't try that passive aggressive bullshit. You attacked her and tried to call her out more than she already did to herself. This is a friendly "competition" meant to act as a support group, not some veiled flame fest for you to smack down on all the women under the pretense of "tough love".
