27 versions of Windows 7
10/11/2009 3:59:28 AM
none of which work correctly
10/11/2009 8:28:50 AM
lol

this might be a dumb question, but could you download windows 7 on to multiple PCs if you bought it from that site, or would it only allow you to put it on one?
10/12/2009 12:59:09 AM
you get 1 key per copy. For 30 bucks I would get some friends with .edu email addy to get a copy and you pay for it. You can revamp an entire household for under 100 bucks.

So, one thing I really liked in WMC in Vista was Netflix instant streaming. What happened to that in Win7? I thought they were going to be introducing some "new and improved" version in WMC for Win7 (which, incidentally, is quite slick and well-done - nice improvement), but I don't see it at all. Tried forcing a re-download of the listings, but it doesn't show up.Anyone know anything about this?[Edited on October 14, 2009 at 1:22 AM. Reason : .]

from what i've read, the win7MC netflix integration will be released at the end of the month, when win7 officially hits shelves
10/14/2009 1:31:40 AM
That's kind of what I figured, but I was curious. Obviously, it'd be fun to show off at the launch party.

umm intel hardware is in macs too... i agree their drivers suck... my wireless card with intel's drivers still shits the bed trying to do N in linux.

^we fugged up on vista too. None of this is official anything, I am just an individual, I don't endorse or represent any company on this site.On the other issue, yes the driver problems are 100% intel. Why would microsoft develop in house drivers for hardware if the manufacturers drivers were already fine? ^^apple computers run on intel processors, not all intel hardware. And I don't think intel provides any of the drivers for apple computers. Pretty sure that all comes from Apple and AMD/nVidia.

finally got the sidebar working... had to do a combination of two of the methods posted on the last page
10/15/2009 8:16:56 PM
of course now I cant download any new gadgets... any ideas?

For the upgrade (I bought with the $30 student offer) will I have to have windows xp installed on the computer first or do I just need the windows xp cdkey so I can install on an empty hard drive?
10/15/2009 11:09:39 PM
this thread needs more screencaps
10/15/2009 11:13:47 PM
10/16/2009 8:14:57 AM
^^ you wouldnt really notice anything that different
10/16/2009 7:09:43 PM
alumni.ncsu.edu email addresses FTW!
10/18/2009 8:56:12 PM
So if I register for my alumni address I can get education discounts??
10/18/2009 9:40:04 PM
looks like it
10/18/2009 9:43:35 PM
So I have Vista Ultimate (I think. Whichever one is the 64bit). Which Windows 7 Upgrade do I need to still utilize all of my RAM?
10/18/2009 9:58:56 PM
ultimate x64
10/18/2009 10:07:42 PM
10/18/2009 10:10:11 PM
how much ramz you got, yo?
10/18/2009 10:17:35 PM
I want to say 4GB.
10/18/2009 10:18:26 PM
then yah, you'll need ultimate x64 to upgrade. you won't be able to use any more than about 3 GB or so w/ 32-bit Winders
10/18/2009 10:35:21 PM
the ONLY issues I have with Windows 7....2 different computers.... both can't come out of hibernate or standby properly, they both lock up when attempting to awake.
10/18/2009 11:03:03 PM
That's the same problem that I currently have with Vista. Good to see I am in for more of the same!
10/18/2009 11:40:50 PM
^^ Well if your computers are made by Packard Bell and Gateway, you're gonna have problems like that.
10/19/2009 7:31:34 AM
on mine the network adapters don't work for 90 second everytime i turn the computer on..whether it's from standby or from really being off, doesn't matter. at exactly 1:30 it starts working though
10/19/2009 8:02:47 AM
when are the student discounted copies supposed to ship out? is it the 22nd?
10/19/2009 9:13:35 AM
Anyone have any issues with the windows 7 email being forwarded correctly by the alumni address?Does it take a while for forwards to come through?
10/19/2009 9:47:39 AM
yeah I just tried my alumni address and no mail thus far
10/19/2009 9:59:38 AM
i tried last week with my alumni addy and the site took it but have yet to receive an email. i even went back a few days later to resend the email and have yet to receive it. so i'm not sure what's going on.
10/19/2009 10:26:00 AM
just got confirmation and purchase link with alumni email
10/19/2009 10:26:57 AM
I noticed that i had to change my forwarding address in two spots in the alumni account page.So if you changed where your alumni addy points to recently make sure it lists your correct email in the forward section as well as in your 'profile' area that has your mailing address, etc in it.I got it shortly after. Is it limited to a single copy? I dont want to buy yet so ive not followed the email link.
10/19/2009 10:33:27 AM
i just had the email resent again and within 2 seconds got it within my mail. i wonder if last week they were having issues with their systems sending the emails out. regardless, i got it
10/19/2009 10:37:17 AM
Who would like to temporarily put ethics aside and purchase (or barter for) my Signature x86/x64 Ultimate?
10/19/2009 11:20:53 AM
i am sure this is in here somewhere, but the windows 7 free upgrade coming out...... it is the 32 bit version?
10/19/2009 4:16:53 PM
The upgrade should correspond to the version of Vista you're running now.
10/19/2009 4:19:08 PM
awesome. thanks
10/19/2009 4:20:58 PM
If anyone's trying to get it working on old hardware, try installing XP drivers using the Program Compatibility wizard. I got a 6-year old Dell Inspiron's graphics drivers working. Not with Aero, still pretty impressive!
10/19/2009 4:47:38 PM
Yeah i installed it on my 2004 9100 Dell Inspiron. Don't really use it but was interested to see how many of the drivers win7 got automatically. Got all the important ones. Did you let it try to find them before installing the xp ones?
10/19/2009 5:03:31 PM
dang man, alumni records cannot be found.
10/19/2009 6:14:18 PM
10/19/2009 6:30:23 PM
I have the 64 and 32 bit versions of windows 7 ultimate. I have a 64 bit processor. I've had problems with the 64 bit version of Vista before. I'm wondering if it would be better for now to install the 64 or 32 bit version of windows 7. I've heard arguments for both sides. [Edited on October 19, 2009 at 10:24 PM. Reason : link]
10/19/2009 10:22:48 PM
If you don't know why you need 64, install 32.
10/19/2009 10:35:57 PM
unless there is some app that you need that's 64 bit only i too, don't see any reason to go with win7-64 just now...
