this might be a dumb question, but could you download windows 7 on to multiple PCs if you bought it from that site, or would it only allow you to put it on one?

you get 1 key per copy. For 30 bucks I would get some friends with .edu email addy to get a copy and you pay for it. You can revamp an entire household for under 100 bucks.

i tried using microsoft drivers instead...win7 is still be retarded

i guess you could still blame intel, but since it was a machine built for vista and came with vista and didn't have trouble with vista...i'm going with win7 as the culprit

So, one thing I really liked in WMC in Vista was Netflix instant streaming. What happened to that in Win7? I thought they were going to be introducing some "new and improved" version in WMC for Win7 (which, incidentally, is quite slick and well-done - nice improvement), but I don't see it at all. Tried forcing a re-download of the listings, but it doesn't show up.

Anyone know anything about this?

from what i've read, the win7MC netflix integration will be released at the end of the month, when win7 officially hits shelves

That's kind of what I figured, but I was curious. Obviously, it'd be fun to show off at the launch party.

You could, but you'd be stupid. You can't blame the platform for increasing the standards of their drivers. Intel has some of the worst software engineering in the industry. They've made shitty drivers for more than a decade. Remember the failure that was Vista? Intel's garbage had a whole lot do with that (hardware and software... herro 915)

umm intel hardware is in macs too...

i agree their drivers suck... my wireless card with intel's drivers still shits the bed trying to do N in linux.

so is it your official fanboy position that it IN NO WAY IS OR CAN BE microsoft's fault? i just want to make sure you're on record saying that microsoft is COMPLETELY without blame

yeah, you know who ELSE had a whole lot to do with that? microsoft

[Edited on October 14, 2009 at 9:25 PM. Reason : just want to make sure that the OFFICIAL microsoft stance is finger pointing at intel]

^we fugged up on vista too. None of this is official anything, I am just an individual, I don't endorse or represent any company on this site.

On the other issue, yes the driver problems are 100% intel. Why would microsoft develop in house drivers for hardware if the manufacturers drivers were already fine?

^^apple computers run on intel processors, not all intel hardware. And I don't think intel provides any of the drivers for apple computers. Pretty sure that all comes from Apple and AMD/nVidia.

For the upgrade (I bought with the $30 student offer) will I have to have windows xp installed on the computer first or do I just need the windows xp cdkey so I can install on an empty hard drive?

Anyone have any issues with the windows 7 email being forwarded correctly by the alumni address?

Does it take a while for forwards to come through?

I noticed that i had to change my forwarding address in two spots in the alumni account page.

So if you changed where your alumni addy points to recently make sure it lists your correct email in the forward section as well as in your 'profile' area that has your mailing address, etc in it.

I got it shortly after.

Is it limited to a single copy? I dont want to buy yet so ive not followed the email link.

The upgrade should correspond to the version of Vista you're running now.

If anyone's trying to get it working on old hardware, try installing XP drivers using the Program Compatibility wizard. I got a 6-year old Dell Inspiron's graphics drivers working. Not with Aero, still pretty impressive!

Yeah i installed it on my 2004 9100 Dell Inspiron. Don't really use it but was interested to see how many of the drivers win7 got automatically. Got all the important ones. Did you let it try to find them before installing the xp ones?

It's not illegal to sell it, lookup first sale doctrine, I sold mine legally on eBay for $250, sold in 9 min.

I have the 64 and 32 bit versions of windows 7 ultimate. I have a 64 bit processor. I've had problems with the 64 bit version of Vista before. I'm wondering if it would be better for now to install the 64 or 32 bit version of windows 7. I've heard arguments for both sides.

unless there is some app that you need that's 64 bit only i too, don't see any reason to go with win7-64 just now...
