how much would you be willing to spend on a Thee Oh Sees show?because I'd be willing to spend A LOT
8/3/2013 2:27:09 PM
I was talking to my girlfriend about how some people are going to follow NMH on tour, which I think is a bit silly. Her response: "We should follow Thee Oh Sees."I agreed. So, yes, a lot.
8/3/2013 3:05:19 PM
you aren't qualified enough in music for me to ask you anything about that*snicker*
8/3/2013 3:10:47 PM
In Chicago for a week in Sept. Have only one leisure night -- the rest are meetings.Want to see some music. My concert choices are: Joe Satriani, Johnny Winter, Lapalux, Shigeto/Beacon, Stardog Champion, Sugar Blue....or go to some hole-in-the wall blues or jazz club.
8/3/2013 3:17:32 PM
I'd pick the last option. Ask around at the hotel where a good no-bullshit club is at.
8/3/2013 3:29:51 PM
how well known is the fact that the drummer of Spoon is an alumnus of NC State?because I've been a fan of them for 10+ years and I just found out 5 minutes ago
8/5/2013 7:57:32 PM
i had no clue
8/5/2013 8:11:09 PM

I still don't accept dance as a valid art form thoughI'm Krallum and I approved this message.
8/27/2013 10:30:51 AM
that middle section with sasha was taken from the dance they did to the TMBG version of "istanbul (not constantinople)"
8/27/2013 6:25:19 PM
What are your top five favorite Raleigh music venues? Ranked or unranked I guess.
8/27/2013 6:29:07 PM
of all time or right now
8/27/2013 6:59:28 PM
omgthat farewell dance made my daystill pissed that Bunheads got canceled^Sasha's Constantinople dance is one of my favorite dances they did on Bunheads. I also love the dance from the first episode where Michelle was telling the girls how a dance audition goes.[Edited on August 27, 2013 at 7:16 PM. Reason : d]
8/27/2013 7:16:00 PM
^^Right now was my intent, but all-time would be interesting as well.
8/27/2013 8:11:24 PM
Whats the best krautrock band & album.Hint: Its not Tangerine DreamI'm Krallum and I approved this message./]
9/3/2013 4:40:01 PM
CANNEU!
9/3/2013 5:16:05 PM
whats the strum pattern to across the universe? I just tried quarter + half, eighth and then four eighths and was unconventional but the closest to the sound I feel
9/3/2013 8:57:27 PM
it's different every timegenerally the first strum of each change is a quarter and the rest are eighths but there's all sorts of flourishes in therelet your spirit be your guide
9/4/2013 3:22:23 AM
you planning on staying in Winston post-Oh Sees or driving back to Raleigh?currently trying to figure out what we wanna do
9/25/2013 1:21:22 PM
pretty sure we'll book a room in advance with a plan to get smashed and dance a lot
9/25/2013 3:58:13 PM
who should I make sure to check out at Wide Open Bluegrass this week/weekend?http://www.wideopenbluegrass.com/
9/25/2013 5:21:58 PM
i know next to nothing about bluegrass, and literally nothing about modern bluegrassi recognize some names on the schedule, but couldn't tell you what to see
9/25/2013 5:45:59 PM
so Pynchon's latest came out yesterdayexcited to start itjust figured posting that in here would make more sense than anywhere else on TWW
9/25/2013 6:37:23 PM
^^^^ probably the best course of action[Edited on September 25, 2013 at 7:08 PM. Reason : weird]
9/25/2013 7:07:26 PM
^^I'm getting a promo copy soon and I'm wondering how it'll sit with me. I love Pynchon but his ideas have definitely aged a lot, and it seems like this book operates in a very contemporary, digital setting--so I definitely wonder how he handled it. Also, anything that directly and plainly deals with 9/11 has a lot of terrible peers to contend with. Just historically for me as a reader, most 9/11 narratives are extremely heavy handed.
9/25/2013 10:07:19 PM
you taking the Bridge Bus tomorrow night?
10/30/2013 7:57:33 PM
Yes. But it might be a Bridge Van because there's not a ton of passengers.
10/30/2013 8:02:36 PM
gotchaI'm in the middle of trying to talk some people into going
10/30/2013 8:04:01 PM
I will say that it's likely to sell out before the Raleigh crew gets there, so if you don't have tix I might be hesitant.
10/30/2013 8:23:09 PM
yeah, everyone who would normally go either moved away or is unable to go, so I've held off on tickets until I can find someone else who will goit's 50-50 right now
10/30/2013 8:27:14 PM
I'm glad Winston is getting good shows again. Just wish I had leave from work right now and could go.No clue if you might be into this at all, but why doesn't Raleigh have more comedy venues? Charlie Goodnight's doesn't seem to go for any "alt" (stupid term) comics and sticks mostly to Last Comic Standing guys or Louie Andersons or Charlie Murphys of the world (people who are funny I guess? but who gives a shit). They bring in one Doug Benson or Graham Elwood or James Adomian for every 5 Jimme Walkers. I guess what I'm saying is why don't more music venues book comics?
10/30/2013 9:30:40 PM
Hannibal Buress played the Lincoln last winter and ruledNeil Hamburger, Rob Delaney, and Todd Barry have all played Kings in the past year or soI'm sure I've forgotten others
10/30/2013 9:38:16 PM
2 shows, same nightwhich should I see?The Pixies (never seen, so so fan, but I bet the show would be good but boring)Skinny Puppy (seen several times, but not since the mid 90s, and would probably be a lot more entertaining show)[Edited on October 30, 2013 at 9:53 PM. Reason : d]
10/30/2013 9:39:57 PM
10/30/2013 9:50:33 PM
it's funny you brought up the awful Goodnight's calendar the only comic that came there over the past year that I care about is Marc Maron, and I won a bunch of free passes that night. there hasn't been one comic that has been there since that I've wanted to use a pass to go see (and I won the passes in February)
10/30/2013 9:57:57 PM
FUCK a Kim Deal-less Pixies. With that said, I saw them in '04 on the first reunion tour and it was tremendous, but I'm a crazy Pixies fan. And I haven't seen them any of the other times they've been here, because the prices are dumb and once was enough.I couldn't give two shits about Skinny Puppy, so if it seems more fun, do that.
10/31/2013 1:03:03 AM
We all liked the Pixies better when they were a legend and not an existing rotation of musicians. This is why you don't want a Replacements reunion tour, people.
10/31/2013 8:46:38 AM
why the hell haven't you read ender's game
10/31/2013 9:24:24 AM
i've never been a fan of sci-fi or fantasyand once i figured out that guy was a nut, i sure as hell wasn't buying a new copy of that shitnow that i know the plot, i'm like
10/31/2013 11:52:00 AM
it's more about interpersonal relationships and game theory than sci fibrilliant even if the guy is a gay hating nutball. i still can't reconcile it
10/31/2013 11:59:43 AM
this thread finally died
2/3/2014 5:14:03 PM
Is there any mainstream pop music that you enjoy? Like Miley, Bruno Mars, Lorde etc?
2/3/2014 7:02:10 PM
Lorde is great.I love HAIM. Beyonce, too.I like the specific synthesizer sounds on "Party in the USA."But generally, no.
2/3/2014 8:20:18 PM
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOif you had to pick between lorde or ladyhawkeinsofar as there being only room enough for one kiwi songstress, rightit's ladyhawke every time no question, right
12/8/2015 3:15:03 PM
I'd take Kimbra. But this isn't my thread and she isn't an option
12/8/2015 3:18:44 PM
Why doesn't anyone listen to Magma in 2015?
12/8/2015 3:23:08 PM
Personally I love Haim and think they're special
