Now Det. Young is trying to foist his deletion of Nancy's Blackberry onto the AT&T rep he spoke with...the one whose name he didn't get and whose level of expertise he didn't know.
3/30/2011 12:50:58 PM
god this is BORING!!!
3/30/2011 12:56:22 PM
I couldn't believe the bs he was spewing about the phone data deletion
3/30/2011 1:02:28 PM
Detective Young is really, really good about 'answering' with non-answers.For yes/no questions he goes on and on and on about other random crap.
3/30/2011 1:03:58 PM
I've noticed that as well. It's scary to think I could be put on trial for murder based on the detective "skills"of Detective Young. Hell, I almost think someone who watches SVU regularly could manage to screw less things up in an investigation.

I have been selling cell phones for two years....and anyone will fucking tell you if the password is entered wrong too many times the blackberry security wipes and any data on it is history....deliberately scrambled to the point its not decipherable. The whole point of Blackberry devices is they are ridiculously secure, corporations/govt agencies want to know if any employee drops their phone in the airport proprietary information is not going to be uncovered or leaked. If she actually did have a password on her device that only she knew there was likely no way to get to it to begin with....she took that information to the grave. Still the detective was stupid for fucking with it if he did not know what he was doing, he created an issue out of something that could have been a non-issue in the trial. The defense is going to say she had some boyfriend or something that wanted to hurt her....and they never had a chance to examine her cell phone data to see who she was in contact with due to the detective causing the device to wipe. They have an argument, cell carriers can provide some data regarding SMS text messages, but blackberry messages or other instant message clients that can run on a smartphone are not retained by the carrier.
3/30/2011 1:22:18 PM
But you guys, it was the cell phone tech support that fucked up, not him! And he didn't bother calling tech support back because "you never get the same rep twice."
3/30/2011 1:25:25 PM
what gets to me the most is the fate of a person's life is in the hands of the Cary Police Department. Rather than admit they hastily arrested the guy, CPD is willing to send this guy to the slaughter to protect their own neck. in situations like this those who act as the voice of the law themselves become the murders
3/30/2011 1:28:13 PM
I am not sure exactly what he did but it sounds like he entered the wrong PW, thats the only thing that could trigger an unwanted wipe.....the phone tells you how many tries you have left, it remembers even if it is rebooted, 10 tries is the most it can be set for, however the user can set it for less. You get huge warnings on the last few that it is about to wipe. I have had customers pretty much have a mental breakdown because their little kid got ahold of their blackberry and kept pressing buttons triggering the security wipe.]
3/30/2011 1:33:25 PM
paraben makes a few forensic tools for the blackberry, they could have gotten something or at the very least taken a memory image to work off of so they didn't have to worry about wiping it. its secure to the lay person, but i'd bet the right person could have gotten the information off of it.
3/30/2011 1:35:11 PM
He claimed that at&t told him to do one thing, that magically deleted the phone data without warning, and he didn't bother calling at&t back to see why that happened. And really, who the hell hangs up on tech support before completing the technical task at hand?[Edited on March 30, 2011 at 1:37 PM. 3/30/2011 1:42:25 PM
I gave a hard time believing this guy has no idea what a sim card is.
3/30/2011 3:31:11 PM
Particularly since he owns a blackberry himself.
3/30/2011 3:31:49 PM
Wait, he didn't tell a judge he had wiped the phone when trying to get a warrant for the phone's data? Did I hear that correctly?
3/30/2011 3:35:17 PM
Yup. He didn't deem it "relevant" to getting the warrant.
3/30/2011 3:36:07 PM
3/30/2011 3:36:42 PM

Cary sounds like an awesome place to kill someone.
3/30/2011 3:56:48 PM
Lol is that google earth?
3/30/2011 3:58:27 PM
Lol wtf was up with that picture of her giving the finger
3/30/2011 4:28:44 PM
are you watching it on TV or something?
3/30/2011 4:45:37 PM
I think the point was to say that the detectives never found the jewelry that was on her that night...however the prosecution never mentioned that. they did a terrible job.they have really messed up this whole case...the CPD did bad enough.
3/30/2011 4:45:54 PM
Watching it on wral
3/30/2011 4:52:23 PM
Man this detective is a lying sack of poop.
3/30/2011 5:06:45 PM
The Brad #CooperTrial wraps up for the day. Testimony continues at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
3/30/2011 5:10:10 PM
3/30/2011 7:58:39 PM
Or maybe he got into the phone, saw some evidence that could have cleared Brad but said fuck it. We going after his ass, so he "accidentally" entered the passcode is wrong
3/30/2011 8:01:17 PM
He accidentally the whole thing.
3/30/2011 8:13:53 PM
there's something very sketch about someone being willfully stupid enough to keep entering a wrong password in to a device that says it will unequivocally destroy all the data if that use pattern continuesIf I were on the jury I'd have to find Cooper not guilty just based on this cellphone bit alone. There is no way that someone is that fucking stupid. The device gives you multiple warnings and makes you jump through all sorts of hoops by DESIGN, and for him to casually neglect to mention that he had "accidentally" wiped the device in the search warrant really calls both his character and the prosecution's case into question. If I were a higher up in the CPD, that detective would never work another shift in my department because he's either:1. Stupid beyond all measureor2. Willfully disingenuous
3/30/2011 8:20:05 PM
my favorite is the last three tries where it makes you key in the word "blackberry" to ensure you are not just sitting on the keyboard or your phone fell in a baby crib.....he had to correctly enter the word blackberry three times before entering the wrong password the last three times and causing the device wipe
3/30/2011 8:26:50 PM
Yeah his cell phone story sounds like bullshit to me.
3/30/2011 8:35:34 PM
3/30/2011 9:37:04 PM
what gets me is that he got the information for the PUK code and how to operate it...then waited a WEEK to go through that process. He didnt use any computer to dump the data, didnt send it to the FBI or even go to AT&T or the blackberry place thats right here in Raleigh. All this and yet he still said today he had no idea what a SIM card is although he OWNS a blackberry and even knew the model number of it.He intentionally did all that to the phone...he kept it in his desk for over a month, not in evidence and not in the electronics lab.I hope Cooper sues the pants off of Cary PD.its really quite humorous
3/30/2011 10:11:23 PM
I like how he also claimed to not know the FBI had the ability to unlock phones until after he erased her phone. Really? You don't think the FB fucking I has the ability to unlock phones?
3/30/2011 10:17:36 PM
I really hope this detective loses his job at the end of this case.

3/30/2011 10:38:35 PM
the issue with your story was "she"a lot of women are willing to convict this guy because he is a dude and they are secretly unhappy with their own lives. Basically, this detective thought he was going to be the hero on a case that went national. realized he fucked up and tried to cover his tracks. Now, Brad Cooper has had his life destroyed based on the poor performance of an over-zealous cop

^^^ i agree w that somewhat. but the woman's husband that i was conversing with is the one that came up with the pillow theory it seems like a lot of people, male and female, are willing to convict based on nothing...or a "gut feeling"ok, well if it was your life would you want strangers deciding your fate by going with their gut? i think not.[Edited on March 30, 2011 at 10:51 PM. bu bu bu bu but it would never happen to them because they're not guilty!
3/30/2011 10:58:51 PM
i know, righteveryone that has ever been wrongfully convicted also started out singing that same song!i'm sure they're singing a different one now, though[Edited on March 30, 2011 at 11:08 PM. Reason : .]

I kind of wish I was on this jury because I'm terrified there's a bunch of idiots on it.
3/31/2011 8:03:22 AM
that's why there are 12 people on the jury...there has to be atleast one level headed person out of the 12 and thats enough to atleast get a hung jury. Odds are though that the majority of them see there is a total lack of evidence and will pursuade the jackasses to take that into account.
3/31/2011 9:18:48 AM
What real evidence was presented that made a judge think this should go to trial?
