concerts

and yes, it was, but the last one in Asheville was last night

now this thread can be used for other Smashing Pumpkins items

because that would be more efficient than making a new one

last night's show was good. he had another new song that he wrote yesterday morning that was pretty cool. he said he woke up cranky and didn't feel like writing, and this song just came to him.

it seemed like the show was gonna be a lot shorter than all the others, but after the last encore dragged out it did end up being around the 3 hour mark.

hopefully they'll get that one up on archive.org soon. it's good to see they finally got the others.

there is mp3 files of the 6/29/07 show
i downloaded the 24 bit flac files from archive.org and used http://media-convert.com/ to convert them all to VBR mp3 files so i could put em on my ipod. this is a rar archive of those files.

Although on a more serious note, someone asked Billy about "Soma" after one of the shows, and he said that he doesn't really want to play it anymore.

James and Billy have been known to fight, and Billy for sometimes behaving petulantly on stage, especially when overzealous fans scream over and over for the same song title. He's then likely to mock them and refuse to play the song they are begging for, insisting that the Pumpkins "Don't take requests. We are not a bar band."

--Nevertheless, I was the asshole screaming geek usa all night long.

i hate that kind of stuff tho. sure you wrote great music to get where you are, but also people listened to you to get where you are. of course it is more them making great music, but the shows we play, sure its fun for us but its like 90% for the fans and what they want. if people want us to play a certain song we usually play it :/

i can't imagine how boring it gets to play the same songs over and over so i don't blame them

but on the 30th show i could really tell billy was getting into "fuck you" and it was awesome

i guess he really felt like playing it

i guess BC only cares about the hard core fans who's favorites aren't the songs that everyone wants to hear (including me ). I for one was hoping to hear more from siamese dream at the show.

so what did they play before Bullet, that's when I started watching

the crowd shot at the pumpkins (NJ right?) seemed fairly large. I think it is the giants stadium

They should be up really soon on Bravo.

Can't wait to see this again. Between Billy fucking up his voice, Ginger and Lisa being turned up too loud, and Jeff blowing the Today intro, it was a pretty classic borderline disastrous Pumpkins TV appearance.

I swear that during HMM, he is actually pointing at me (:40 mark or thereabouts). During the show on the 29th, I got some video during Hummer that looks like he's pointing at us, but this time around ... it's like holy hell he's really pointing at me. Anyway, enjoy the movies and pics.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/44083-zeitgeist

4.9 out of 10 from Pitchfork. That might be too generous... I listened to it once and have no desire to repeat. I'm a long-time Smashing Pumpkins fan since Siamese Dream. I worshipped them through Adore. But, this album is just awful. I think for once pitchfork got it right when they said that Billy forgot that the pumpkins were awesome because they were versatile and had multiple sound palettes besides just churning hard rock consisting of layers of guitar noise over layers of guitar noise. Zeitgeist lacks melody and anything even remotely resembling the fragile, beautiful work of songs such as To Shiela, Mayonnaise, 33, and By Starlite

while the album is no siamese dream, i like it. i didnt like it as much right away, but the more i listen to it, its not bad. definitely better than a 4.9 at least imo

All the songs he's written in Asheville would make a pretty solid album, so maybe there's hope for the future.

I like Zeitgeist, but the three "bonus tracks" and the Asheville songs are better than two-thirds of the songs on the album.
