Well, after a month long trip across the country, here's a few of my favorite pics. Between 4 of us, we snapped about 5,000. All but 1 of the pics were shot with the RebelXT and kit lens.Taken out the window at 80mph in Washington state. Minimal post processing. One of the lakes in the North Cascades NP. Shot RAWTaken at Mt. Rainier NP. Picked up a polarizing lens- love it.A building in Seattle near the seahawks stadium. The HOH Rain ForestMount St. HelensCrater Lake, polarizing filter, no processing. The fountain show in front of The Bellagio in Vegas. Shot with a Canon A620.Arches NP, polarizing filter, no processing.A lizard at Meteor Crater in Arizona.

7/8/2006 9:48:51 AM
well hell man... lets go
7/8/2006 10:08:47 AM
Thanks! Just to note, in shot of Crater Lake, the reflections in the middle of the water aren't really reflections. The water is so crystal clear that you can see to the bottom. It's the peaks of hills underneath. At it's deepest point, the lake 1,949 ft.
7/8/2006 10:48:28 AM
Here's our ride, a 87 Chevy conversion van. Awesome! Arches NP. No PP.

well i'm not sure how it works for full resolution pictures being posted. but it really works well. its not space, its upload bandwidth... i use the uploader on my computer and i can fit much much more than 20 mb in a month
7/9/2006 3:06:25 PM
What are you getting at?I uploaded a few pics, and voila, 75% of my upload quota was gone like that. I should have paid attention to the size of my pics, it's true, but it's gay to have the upload limit at all, imo. I'll just use all the space from my various google pages I would like to have them all in one place, and I guess I could use image shack...but I don't really want to.
7/9/2006 4:00:35 PM
you get what you pay for, people - thats why i dont have my site hosted with some freebie service-ZiP!-
7/9/2006 6:58:09 PM
my attempt at the shot docido pulled off of the moon a few pages back-ZiP!-
7/9/2006 10:35:38 PM
25 dollars for flickr... you get unlimited uploads if i remember correctly. and if you upload it at a small resolution like image shack and google pages would do... then boom, you can upload alot
7/9/2006 10:41:35 PM
Anyone know if there are any firefox extensions/addons that will allow you to right-click a picture and view it's exif data? No results with the firefox site search. The only way that strikes me right now is to save it first and then view it.
7/9/2006 11:10:10 PM
I really like that moonshot, Zip, could you give us the specs?
7/9/2006 11:13:14 PM
^^^^ Nice first attempt ZiP. You get your tripod yet? I see a little blur in there if I'm not mistaken.
7/10/2006 1:03:12 AM
you might be seeing the reduced resolution due to cropping.
7/10/2006 2:04:51 AM
Thinking about getting some extension tubes for my d70...any suggestions?
7/10/2006 9:52:26 AM
i've used them... just got one...gets ya reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal close. no more metering...but you do atleast get all of the sharpness of the glass you are using. i use my old manual 50mm 1.8 with it.
7/10/2006 10:52:54 AM
I've got the stock 35-70 that comes with the d70....do you think that would work well with extension tubes?
7/10/2006 10:57:40 AM
D lens? or does it have the aperture ring on the lens... if it has the aperture ring... thats what ya need. it should work fairly well.[Edited on July 10, 2006 at 11:08 AM. Reason : ohlala]

yesterday on a boat tryin' to get my game on, hoisting the sails:the specs for the moon shot above are:focal length: 200mmf-stop: 5.6exposure time: 1/50 secondand yah, docido: i am borrowing an even crustier tripod than normal this week, but no, still haven't bought a more decent one. that was pretty much handheld, as is the one below, haha:here's another attempt, from last night:i think this one was slightly faster, but the same focal length and f-stop-ZiP!-

I never knew tripods were so expensive - Tony just lets me use his which is in great condition, but when I got a monopod last fall that was about $20! I do suggest you invest the money, though; once I learned how to use it efficiently it paid off in so many ways. Even shooting deer, I just mount the camera and sit back to wait. Once they come into their regular area I'm all set to go. I don't have the one with the rotating ball-head unfortunately, but I hear that's much quicker to adjust.
7/11/2006 11:03:11 AM
You can easily spend 500+ dollars on tripod legs, which doesn't even include a ballhead of any type. Anything in photography can get expensive. For example, the Gitzo monopod I want is around 400 bucks.
7/11/2006 11:07:01 AM
^^^ Nice second attempt ZiP I like it much better.Yea, tripods are a penny but they're def worth it.
7/11/2006 11:19:50 AM
there are some "inexpensive" sturdy ones. not nearly as sturdy as the high end ones... but i got my tripod for like 40 bucks i think...the thing is built like a blasted rock... metal top and quick release.
7/11/2006 12:24:04 PM
^ same here, but I don't know how much it was. Very light, it must be aluminum.

I thought extension tubes would be rather cheap, but a set of 3 for af lenses costs 175 at peace camera
7/11/2006 6:55:55 PM
bought mine used for bout 15 bucks
7/11/2006 6:56:30 PM
^^^Ewww, Quantaray. I got that shit for x-mas last year and took it back. I didn't feel confident with it supporting my 70-200mm. 7/11/2006 7:09:17 PM
what about ball heads? are they dependable?
7/11/2006 7:43:36 PM
The one I have is aluminum and was worth $70 back in '85. Very lightweight, dependible head and levers, sturdy as fuck.
7/11/2006 7:45:29 PM
^^^Yep, same one. What is that, a sigma 15-30? I grew outta Sigma a long time ago, haha Naw, they make some good lenses, but Canon is far superior. Yeah, it's a 2.8L lens. With that lens sticking way out, it has a lot more leverage to pull down on a tripod and I didn't like putting it on that flimsey stick of a tripod. The way you have to use that arm that goes up/down to get a decent height really turned me off to that tripod. Mine is over 70" tall and I don't even need to use the up/down arm at standing height.
7/11/2006 10:45:21 PM
yes, with such a big lens its a bit different. although i wouldnt say every canon lense is better than every sigma/tamron lens...
