3-2 canes
1/19/2006 8:52:59 PM
4-3, gotta hold on
1/19/2006 9:23:03 PM
Philly loses to Boston, and Ottawa is trailing Anaheim in the third. If the Sens end up losing, Carolina will have a 3 point lead on top of the conference.

Awesome win for the 'Canes. I agree with Tripp that this has to be the most under the radar 9 game win streak.GO CANES!!![Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:35 PM. Reason : .]
1/19/2006 9:35:13 PM
exactly, #1 in the league, 9 game win streak(7 as of when this list was made), we had just beaten two of the best teams in the west, and TSN thinks we are #6 as far as power rankings go. They say they use some sort of formula to determine them. I guess the inputs are prestige and whether or not the team is from canada.http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=548&hubname=

Ottowa is losing 3-2 with 3 minutes left to the ducksGreat win for the canes!
1/19/2006 9:51:19 PM
and, seconds after i posted that Ottowa scoredJINX!
1/19/2006 9:56:04 PM
Ottawa lost in a shootout! Philly and Ottawa lost tonight, that's awesome for us!
1/19/2006 10:21:27 PM
Did anyone go? There was like 12 people there tonight, kinda dissapointing but great game[Edited on January 19, 2006 at 10:22 PM. Reason : asd]
1/19/2006 10:21:51 PM
2nd 9 game win streak this season
1/19/2006 10:25:38 PM
Yeah I went, bought a $10.29 ticket, and moved down to the 8th row after the firstIt was a great game, and it was funny to listen to everybody cheer (myself included of course) when they put on the scoreboard that the tarholes lost. Those refs were fucking TERRIBLE tonight. They should officiate ACC basketball.
1/19/2006 11:02:33 PM
that was an awesome game to be at, wish the fight was betterand how about that glove save on the goalline![Edited on January 19, 2006 at 11:09 PM. Reason : hockey rules life]
1/19/2006 11:08:47 PM
I love this damn team!
1/19/2006 11:08:48 PM
very shitty refs but a win is a win
1/19/2006 11:12:49 PM
Boulerice got triple-PWNT tonight.Smashed face-first into the boards, took a really fucking stupid hooking penalty, and Danny Richmond dropped the gloves.Yeesh.
1/20/2006 12:25:17 AM
I THINK TSN figures PP and PK into the rankings, and for those numbers we aren't so hot #9 PP and #22 for the PK which is kinda shitty.
1/20/2006 2:46:09 AM
^I'm fairly certain they do, as well. At the start of the season when the Canes started to heat up, folks would write in to Scott Cullen and bitch and moan about why their precious team was behind them in the power rankings. He explained that pretty much all statistics are considered in his "power rankings formula," both team and individual.Needless to say, every site except TSN and ESPN (who haven't updated in a while) have the Canes at #2. I'll take it. I'd expect us to be #1 in at least some of them if (or should I say "when") we beat the Craps tomorrow night.[Edited on January 20, 2006 at 9:59 AM. Reason : .]
1/20/2006 9:58:36 AM
The question is this:WHO IS GOING TO HOLD SASHA OVECHKIN!?My guess is it'll have to be Gerber.
1/20/2006 10:00:14 AM
Danny Richmond to Chicago for Anton Babchuk.
1/20/2006 6:02:35 PM
Interesting. I liked Richmond, but the word on Babchuk seems to be pretty good.
1/20/2006 6:08:29 PM
damnlose a fight, get traded
1/20/2006 6:19:47 PM
They're completely different players, so it'll be interesting to see if Babchuk sticks. He'll be here immediately because we're short on D. Richmond is a speedy little bugger, while Babchuk is a 6' 5" big hitter with a cannon of a point slapper. He's not so good on the breakout, but he's a solid positional defender.^ I wouldn't say he lost, he only got popped once with any force.[Edited on January 20, 2006 at 6:28 PM. Reason : d]

Am I the only one who is worried that the canes are overachieving?
1/20/2006 7:18:42 PM

Alert: look up 7 posts from yours
1/20/2006 9:56:07 PM
I thought the canes would trade one of their forwards for a defenseman, not a defenseman for a defenseman.
1/20/2006 10:12:00 PM
at least the trade involves a Dman
1/20/2006 10:28:03 PM
^^ Unless you're in the mood to call up Keith Aucoin, we have a grand total of TWO extra forwards. One of those extra forwards is Jesse Boulerice. *shudder* I love the dude, but he was absolutely worthless last night and hasn't been much better on any other night where he gets more than two shifts.
1/20/2006 11:19:44 PM
Shit, for Richmond? We coulda got Seidenberg from our friends in Philly.
1/21/2006 1:39:06 AM
Clarkie's saving something for when he has to procure a backup for Niitty come playoff time.
1/21/2006 1:48:20 AM
from sportsline's rumor mill:"There is talk around the league that Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette could be lured away from Carolina at the end of the season. Laviolette, whose club is first overall, is un-signed beyond this year, and would draw interest from two clubs he has previously worked for, the Islanders and Bruins."I have thought about this throughout the season, and I hope we can keep laviolette here. He is a hell of a coach.
1/21/2006 12:15:41 PM
wtf is the problem, the team needs more money?
1/21/2006 12:36:52 PM
I read that rumor, and I don't see a chance of that happening. There may be teams that attempt to lure him away, but I doubt he will go anywhere. And he definitely would not go back to the team that just recently fired him. I would expect that once the Olympics are over the Hurricanes may begin negotiating an extension with him. He has his hands full right now.
1/21/2006 12:41:13 PM
Are we gonna get anything out of that Vrbata trade? Is the Richmond trade part of that?
1/21/2006 12:54:00 PM
fuck a capital
1/21/2006 8:09:36 PM
i doubt we will lose. 2 goal lead is nothing. plus the penalties are a fucking joke.
