yea thats one of the few things that were diff in these first movies that i actually thought looked cool
5/26/2005 10:56:01 AM
It's not a matter of why Palpatine had it done because of the order the movies were made-- it's a question of "How are we going to make excuses and justifications that will make sense and cohesively bind the universe without offending anyone's cognitive reasoning abilities?"There was -some- variation in IV, V, and VI in storm trooper uniforms and Death Star/stardestroyer employees. The technicians wore those silly ass wide brimmed vader-wannabe hats; the red guard is easily distinguishable for obvious reasons; I think the stormtroopers on Endor had different uniforms, too, but someone more knowledgable can confirm that.

The troopers on Endor did have different uniforms. I think they were supposed to be scout troopers or something like that.

i always thought storm troopers were clones toowho ever said kamino ever stopped making clones for the republic/empire?
5/26/2005 11:30:23 AM
Yes, yes, I am keenly aware that the uniforms themselves are different. The complete lack of color in Stormtroopers is what makes me curious, though. By and large, they are all just white and black (with Sandtroopers being the exception because of their shoulder pauldron).
5/26/2005 11:32:20 AM
Aren't all the stormtroopers trained at The Academy? Or something like that.
5/26/2005 9:39:01 PM
Going to see it tonite.
5/26/2005 9:42:05 PM
^^^Take a soldier from 20 years ago and a soldier from today and their uniforms will look different. Whether it be functionality or someone thinking that a new beret will improve morale, they're always making changes.

I have watched episode VI a few times sence seeing episode III (partly cause it was my favorite and partly cause it was the only thing in blockbuster), and one of the things that sticks out now is that Luke seems to "blindly" support the jedi in the end whereas there was always a conflict with Anakin. Hayden really made it seem like a struggle when he attacked Mace and ultimately sided with the dark side after an emotional battle.Basically, it seems like Hayden did a better Anakin than Hamil did a Luke.

Initially, it was easy for Luke to side with the good side though. The Jedi were embodied in Obi-Wan Kenobi, his "father" (according to Obi-Wan), and Yoda. The Sith was embodied in the Emperor ("It's not like I like the Empire, I hate it"), and Darth Vader--the man who betrayed and murdered Luke's father AND Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke doesn't have the disgruntled relationship with the Jedi that Anakin had.

Well, it's official. I've gone overboard.http://www.axelay.net/Clones/Clone%20Reference.htmlI spent the last half hour slapping together a little page which would have a definitive pic of each of the different types of Clone Troopers from ROTS. There's still a lot of confusion about who is what, so I'm also asking members of the rebelscum.com community to help me finish it.
5/27/2005 11:35:02 AM
^why are all those commanders in the field during battles anyway? couldn't they command much more effectively in a command center or something along those lines?
5/27/2005 11:39:57 AM
hahaha
5/27/2005 11:42:19 AM
Well they seem to have instant communication with all their troops, so location doesn't really matter. Then again, in AoTC the commanders did stay behind.^^^ cool site.^ Don't hate [Edited on May 27, 2005 at 11:44 AM. Reason : .]
5/27/2005 11:43:49 AM
Remote command makes you vulnerable to communication disruption, and it doesn't make for very good morale.
5/27/2005 11:44:06 AM
All I know is, some of those pics really make me wanna get the Visual Dictionary.
5/27/2005 11:46:00 AM
well my main point is that it i figured it would be difficult for a commander to see the big picture if he were out fighting with the troops, but mostly i would think that it would be better to have a safe commander (especially if he is good) than to have him exposed to the same dangers as the grunts.anyway, it's just a small detail[Edited on May 27, 2005 at 11:52 AM. 5/27/2005 11:49:13 AM
That's...that's, like, the whole point of the chain of command. Effective leaders are more removed and conduct war in broad strokes; then you have leaders closer to certain centers of action, closer and closer in, until eventually you HAVE to have SOMEONE working directly with the soldiers. The battlefield isn't made up of individuals, you know. What, you think you're gonna get a couple hundred dudes to decide to suit up and go fight some people just because some asshole on the other end of a radio told them to?
5/27/2005 11:58:03 AM
Yeah, I got a laugh out of the scene when Cody bends down to pick up Obi-Wan's lightsaber, and the guy right beside him gets shot.
5/27/2005 11:58:58 AM
^^ i understand the chain of command, i just assumed that these commanders were very high up on it (aren't they something like division or battalion commanders?), but if they aren't then it makes perfect sense for them to be right there with the troops.
