Montgomery, you say?

Not to allow excuses for the coach, but road wins in the ACC are obviously extremely difficult. And so far, 4 of our 7 ACC games have been away. Clearly we should have beaten Clemson. But we've played well at home and won our games with the exception of a top 5 Duke team. Lowe's teams have traditionally played stronger the 2nd half of the season (except 2007-08). We still have 5 more home games left. If we win 4 out of 5 of those and beat Wake and UVA on the road, we'll finish .500 in the conference. But realistically I don't see that happening. Virginia Tech will be tough to beat. UNC will be tough. UVA had a double-digit lead AT Duke - they could be tough. I think we'll be inspired to get payback vs. Clemson. We're capable of beating FSU - we did it twice last season (with Dennis Horner).

I thought we all decided that our next coach should have some collegiate head coaching experience
2/1/2011 6:41:47 PM
Just curious, what would your guys' reaction be if we got Tubby?
2/1/2011 7:25:45 PM
I would be pretty 'meh'. But, we could do a shit ton worse. Fuck it, I'd be ecstatic. ]
2/1/2011 7:26:41 PM
^^^i thought all we needed was a coach who earned a degree at an offline university
2/1/2011 7:27:47 PM
Maybe Debbie Yow can ask Bill Self or Tom Izzo to serve as consultant in the next coaching search. If it goes anything like the last one we are golden.

^^^ that's kinda how I'd look at it. It'd be similar in some ways to O'Brien. Not super exciting or the high upside hire we might want but it's a pretty safe way to get us back to relevant. Plus, just as we'd start to get tired of him he'd be getting ready to retire anyway[Edited on February 1, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Reason : 3]

What are the chances we could steal the guy from Purdue? Painter, I think? Our new chancellor has ties to Purdue....just a thought. They are always in the top 25.
2/1/2011 9:58:21 PM
We have a 0% chance of landing any big name coach who isn't past his prime.
2/1/2011 9:59:05 PM
Matt Painter is a Purdue grad, he's not going anywhere. Why do people keep bringing him up?

Each spring there are some mid-major names that boil to the surface in March, and some will come along. I think two A-10 coaches may be worth keeping on the radar screen along with Gregg Marshall from Wichita State.Chris Mack, Xavier - 2nd season as a head coach, led Xavier to another Sweet 16 in his first year. Xavier has been a hotbed for up and coming coaches, he previously served on Skip Prosser and Sean Miller's staffs at Xavier/Wake Forest and Xavier. Still only 41.Chris Mooney, Richmond - Has at least built Richmond up to being consistently in the upper tier of the Atlantic 10. 38 years old, played his college ball at Princeton.

Kevin Ollie[Edited on February 1, 2011 at 10:46 PM. Reason : i'm not serious, but I think he will be a hell of a college head coach one day]
