Obv not as much as larger MTTs, but still some for sure. I mean i've heard of ppl going on like 50BI downswings, so its definitely not uncommon.I don't play the 4s anymore, but I think my biggest downswing might have been around 25BIs.

what sites are people playing on these days and how is transferring money to and from?
8/31/2009 10:40:05 AM
Day 1 of 11 in vegas. I better win
9/4/2009 3:48:50 PM
What the hell do you do in Vegas for 11 days?
9/4/2009 4:38:35 PM
You should really rephrase that:What won't he do in Vegas in 11 days?

so saturday i ran $200 into $850 playing 2/5 at the bellagio while drinking ~15 rum and cokes. Then i bluffed on two hands both of which the heads up opponent had a set. Oops.So sunday i was pissed and went back bought in for 200 ran it up to about 500 and moved to the 5/10 NL game at some ungodly hour like 4-5 AM manglepieced off another 15 rum and cokes.I'm UTG+1 and UTG live straddles to $20. There's 6 people at the table so i pop to $100 with 6-6. Folds around to the straddler who goes all in for $600 or so which is just a little less than my stack. I insta-call flip my 6's but he doesn't flip. the board is like A Q 10 5 2 i think. He hesitates for about 15 seconds then mucks J-4 suited face up. How real is that.Netted only $2k for the trip after expenses, the games are pretty tough out there right now and i bubbled three SNG's on gruesome beats to really eat into my bottom line.Worst hand was in a fairly deep stacked 1/2 game where everyone has $300-$1,000. I'd been playing super laggy and i get pocket 4's the guy in front pops to like $20 and i fold because im a donkey flop comes Q-4-4 and the guy ends up getting all his chips in on the flop with A-A. Not only did i miss out on the $300 pot but I missed the $100 quads jackpot too. Brutal trip really, but I'm sure I'll be back in a few months haha
9/15/2009 10:38:45 PM
Do you ever lose? Because I can't ever recall you being down any and it seems like every story you have to tell would imply you could make a better living playing poker than the financial adviser or analyst job or whatever you have.
9/15/2009 10:48:28 PM

He was there for 11 days so that's only a win rate of $180 a day. Not trying to defend him but it's definitely possible.
9/18/2009 10:34:32 AM
Do I ever lose?? Sure but not often over 11 days against mostly inferior competition. 2k in 11 days is hardly bragworthy.
9/18/2009 11:56:38 AM
Just saw some funny shit up here in ACThe midnight tourney at Harrahs is a $70 knockout. Some dude knocked 7/9 people at his table out in the first 15 mins. Doubt he cashes...but still kinda sick.
9/19/2009 2:11:53 AM
^^not trying to call BS, I just think I would be a little more happy about winning $2K in 11 daysin fact, I would probably quit my job and play poker full time if I could do that consistently that's $72K a year, throw in a few good trips here and there and you're probably close to $100K
9/20/2009 11:07:52 PM
Theres a lot to be said for a steady income w/ benefits imo. (This coming from a "professional" poker player for now)
9/20/2009 11:29:27 PM
Yeah, playing poker full time was stressful as hell.
9/21/2009 10:32:44 AM

Well I did drop out of school when I was 21 to pursue it and while I had a lot of fun I like my life better now. I got pretty burned out playing and really started to loathe online. I made good money esp since a lot of it wasn't taxable but a lot of facets of life were miserable. I've got a better mentality now and would probably do a lot better with the mental and personal side but the players are waaaay better than they were 6 years ago. If I ever get stuck at a job I don't enjoy poker is a nice out to have.

Popped my casino cherry tonight. We were in Lake Tahoe this weekend for a wedding and decided to stay in Reno tonight so we don't have to make the 1hr drive ahead of our morning flight tomorrow. Had no idea when I booked a room at the Peppermill that it was a full fledged casino. Played some 1-2 NL for 90 minutes sandwiched around some dinner for the wife. Played like granite and made a smokin $20 both times!
9/28/2009 2:36:40 AM
tahoe has card rooms too.this is a long shot, but anyone coming to the wsop circuit event in tahoe this november??
9/29/2009 5:29:00 PM
At Harrahs or Harveys? Are there any other Casinos in Tahoe? We went into Harrahs first and I suppose I either didn't look hard enough or they don't have live tables. The only Hold Em I could find was some shitty play against the dealer crap.
9/29/2009 6:26:59 PM
9/30/2009 2:12:50 AM
Any thoughts on 6max SNGs? I built my initial roll with em a couple years ago, decided to switch it up yesterday and cashed in 6 of 7 that I played. Not sure what kind of ROI to expect though. (been playing the $6 and $11 BI)
9/30/2009 9:18:14 AM

5^ Harrahs owns harveys. The poker room is in harveys and is pretty decent. usually reasonable action on weekends and stuff. also tourneys most days of the week. mont blu also has a room, but it's only one table with props, pretty much same at north shore, but yea harveys is solid. it's not reno, but it's cool and yea dman you should definitely let me know if you come out here for that. They have 3 plo events!! I'm so stoked it's ridiculous.also: anyone know how to do with staking issues regarding taxes? i.e. if i'm staked for a 50/50 split of profits - buyins, i shouldn't have to pay tax on my whole win right? would i need a contract to verify to the irs that i didn't earn all my winnings in revenue? will they try to tax me on the full amount, then try to tax my staker as well?[Edited on September 30, 2009 at 4:59 PM. Reason : dfs]
9/30/2009 4:56:00 PM
If you do the transfers back to your staker via the poker site the irs should have no knowledge of those funds.
