right you can include powell, brackman, simmons, costner, and hickson as well. Sure, they all had valid reasons for leaving. But whats the common denominator? People tend to flee NC State and they tend to return to UNC. Part of that is we know UNC's athletic program is pretty shady and provides special benefits that are outside the rules.Part of it I think its fair to say is our athletics program is inferior and our fanbase creates an atmosphere of hostility.

LOL, good old Mike Bell.he should've just been a part of a package deal with Wilcox.... only Wilcox didn't qualify for us and went to Maryland.so, we were stuck with Bell, who then transfered to some shitty Atlantic Sun school. godalmighty.our admissions requirements suck baws. same thing that scared Calipari away.
1/30/2011 9:16:04 PM
It was published before Davis and Thomas transferred, don't know why Johnson isn't on it, but the point is more that there isn't some huge discrepancy in the number of transfers between the big 4 schools.

I don't know wtf rally is talking aboutBut ten transfers is a lot more than six transfers

^^^And it's not like we've had a cast of all-stars transfer either. A lot of those guys were just in over their head.[Edited on January 30, 2011 at 9:27 PM. Other than Marshall Williams/Damien Wilkins, that is a list of guys who never should have been on scholarship at an ACC (or really any) major conference program. Johnny Thomas is an exception due to his freak knee problem, and Julius Mays was a function of us having no point guard on the roster. The Damien Wilkins situation was unique in that a talented player was bringing down the program with his meddling dad and uncle, and he transferred after wanting to return after testing the NBA waters but Herb wouldn't give him his scholarship back.

you guys clearly know jackshit. Not only was Mike Bell sick when he played as a sophomore (anticlimatic but herb refused to play him)but he was player of the year his senior year in college basketball.Thats okay, we WANTED him to transfer before he became a superstar, thats what we wanted.
1/30/2011 11:03:34 PM
Shut-up rally.Bell was never able to put on weight and he had pretty bad knee problems. When he finally got healthy he was an extreme liability on defense out on the court...and when he got in all he wanted to do was jack 3's.A good friend of mine was his AAU coach in high school and personal trainer/basketball coach during his college years. After transferring he was finally able to put on some pounds and he tore it up his final years in college somewhere down in Florida (Atlantic maybe). I use to watch him work out with my friend and he was sick skill wise (could shoot and handle the ball extremely well for a 6'10" guy)...but he just wasn't ready for major college basketball.Really wish we could have gotten Wilcox. I think he fluctuated in the top 30 to top 50 in the high school rankings (he MIGHT have been top 25 by one publication, but he didn't sniff the McDAA game). We came in 2nd, but he was always going to go to Maryland. His mom was banging his AAU coach who got a job on Maryland's staff while he was there. Freak athlete.Just looked at a list of all those names. I don't think any of those were that big of a deal (left for Doherty-hit-me-at-practice type reasons or they wouldn't have made us an ACC title contender) except for maybe Josh Powell leaving early. That one really hurt. Marshall Williams was a solid player, but I don't think he was going to be All-ACC or anything. He also was extremely homesick...I feel like I remember hearing that he had a preggers girlfriend or a sick mom or something along those lines.Looks like Marshall really let himself go after college...he's a AAU coach back in Wisconsin:[Edited on January 31, 2011 at 8:24 AM. Recruits never read the internet and aren't influenced by people anonymously talking shit about them on message boards (or facebook)http://ivals.yahoo.com/highschool/blog/prep_rally/post/Top-recruit-quits-Facebook-following-living-nig?urn=highschool-313954

After reading his "last post" you'd hope the NCAA would investigate any school that would actually accept him as a student.

Wow. I had no idea how much power I wield over our athletic program. I am stunned to learn I can single handedly build NC State athletics into a dynasty by making hundreds of excuses for each game we suck it up in or I can act like a complete-fool-extremely-vocal-asshole fan by complaining about our continuous ACC cellar status and I can give our school the death penalty. come on now[Edited on January 31, 2011 at 3:11 PM. Chancellor Woodson is why we we got rid of Fowler. We had many glaring issues in our athletics and it was pretty obvious a change needed to be made.

I think I've made my point that having vocal fans isn't necessarily a bad thing either. I think it's a good topic to discuss since the latest argument for why you shouldn't critique Lowe's credibility (in the credibility thread mind you) is essentially because we ran off Herb.
