Yes basicallyI mean the real answer here is that democrats have shown to be pussies when it comes to this kind of stuff...my point is kind of...yeah, NCGOP is terrible, truly terrible...but if Charlotte has the power to basically put their ordinance back and they don't, I don't think we can really FULLY blame the GOP for pulling dishonest shit here. You could have expected them to do it, if Charlotte continues to cooperate with them than I fault them just as much for not standing their ground at this point. If they have the ability to do so, and it seems like they do, it's their fault if they don't

no, it wasn't a ploy just to get Cooper elected
12/23/2016 12:36:45 AM
Uhhhh, yeah, it was. That's why they offered now to repeal the ordinance... after the election... that Cooper won. Otherwise, why not repeal it much earlier in the year, when the exact same deal was offered? Oh, right, because then they'd lose their best election fodder against shithead McCrory. Instead, they let NC take a ton of heat, cost us tons of sporting events and business deals... But hey, at least they got Cooper elected so the NCGA can override all of his vetoes. Hell yes!
12/23/2016 12:53:10 AM
so all of the other municipalities nationwide who passed essentially the same law before Charlotte were in on it too?
12/23/2016 1:04:07 AM
It was a trivial ordinance that should have been a non story, it's fucking retarded to think it had anything to do with electing Cooper.
12/23/2016 6:18:52 AM
aaronburro Wearing a double layer of heavy duty tin foil today.
12/23/2016 7:20:33 AM
Consider the evidence that it was the NCleg that was acting politically:They already had HB2 written before Charlotte passed its ordinance. They met in a special session and pushed the bill through the legislature (partisan votes) and McCrory signed it all in less than 48 hrs. They were the ones hysterically claiming "think of your daughters in the locker rooms." Then at least half, maybe more, of them threw that argument under the bus so that they could repeal.Face it, McCrory and republicans thought they needed a way to rally the Christo fascists to the polls (turns out they may not have even needed it.) and this was it. If you are on McCrory's mailing list you know how many times he whined about "radical leftist out of state organizations trying to bury me!!" As a fund raising ploy? They just didn't anticipate the business and entertainment communities reaction being as harsh as they were.
12/23/2016 7:47:29 AM
same story with amendment 1, needed to drive the idiot christians to the polls
12/23/2016 8:11:50 AM

12/23/2016 10:42:03 AM
so in your scenario, the part of the Big Bad is being played by the Human Rights Campaign?
12/23/2016 10:49:07 AM
Ummm, no? I'm pointing out that anyone with half a brain (and I'm being generous to the NCGOP) could see that the ordinance was going to be passed shortly into the new year. The HRC bankrolled city council campaigns specifically for the issue (OMFG BIG MONEY IN ELECTIONS!!!! wait, no one's bitching about that, hmmm. guess only the Popes aren't allowed to spend money to influence elections in NC), the composition of the votes flipped as a result (they ended up ousting Dems who had voted against it), and I think the newly elected mayor even campaigned on it. The ordinance was obviously coming. Even a dolt like me could see it coming.
12/23/2016 10:55:40 AM
HRC financing people friendly to their cause (btw i'm curious to see where they financed them for this issue) is not the same as the city council passing this ordinance so yadda yadda yadda cooper is elected
12/23/2016 11:01:18 AM
I, too would love to see this alleged bankrolling for a city council election
12/23/2016 11:03:10 AM
12/23/2016 11:09:05 AM
its worth pointing out that even the version of the bill with the open ended moratorium (which basically would have meant an indefinite HB2) still didn't even have much republican support, so it's still minus credibility points[Edited on December 23, 2016 at 11:11 AM. Reason : minus]
12/23/2016 11:11:09 AM
^^ Because the exact deal that Cooper supposedly brokered was offered much earlier in the year. Why not take it then? Oh, right, because they needed to fuck NC a little harder in order to cement a victory for Cooper.^^^http://clclt.com/theclog/archives/2015/08/26/lgbt-groups-back-council-candidates-say-they-will-turn-out-critical-masshttp://www.mattcomer.net/1131/five-facts-how-did-lgbt-groups-choose-their-charlotte-candidates/http://www.hrc.org/blog/hrc-ramps-up-efforts-in-charlotte-endorses-candidates-in-city-council-race[Edited on December 23, 2016 at 1:16 PM. Here ya go aaronburro:Go back and look at the language GOP leadership was using in regards to HB2 deals, totally ambiguous. I bet they never had the votes to repeal it ever.http://www.twcnews.com/nc/charlotte/politics/2016/09/28/capital-tonight-interview--house-speaker-tim-moore.htmlSpeaker Tim Moore back in September

1/25/2017 10:50:30 AM
Ill advised bill maybe, but the acts the bill intends to prohibit would not appear to be protected by the 1st Amendment. Just interested in why ncsusoccer06 thinks it is so obvious or if that was just a phrase.
1/25/2017 11:13:27 AM
As stated above it would absolutely infringe upon the 1st Amendment with the cited example.I understand they will of course attempt to phrase to an towards some degree of "feeling physically intimidated" or "fear for you safety" to intentionally mislead in an effort to pass it - but at it's core it is absolutely an attempt to quell lawful protest.

bill to remove concealed carry permits
2/10/2017 11:26:20 AM
like, to not allow them, or to not require them to carry?[Edited on February 10, 2017 at 11:39 AM. Reason : considering the thread i guess it has to be the latter]
2/10/2017 11:39:15 AM
^to eliminate the requirement to have a CCH to concealed carry. Would still need some type of permit to purchase and for reciprocity. As a support of the 2A, I am opposed to this bill. It's dangerous.
2/10/2017 12:10:42 PM
i don't carry often, but i would probably do it even less if a permit was not requiredi'm not too worried about getting pulled over or interacting with police while carrying concealed because i have a card to show them
2/10/2017 12:35:52 PM
Does the NC GOP really have any credibility left? Since moving to Oregon, NC is consistently the southern state to make the news for some backwards crap going down giving most here don't recognize the difference between SC and NC, the whole confederate flag thing makes it even more of a joke.

Blaming Easley or Perdue for this When I took a teaching position in 2007, 10-year teachers were making $38,710. Now that I'm a 10-year teacher, I'm making $40,250. These "raises" don't even qualify as cost of living adjustments. The GOP lowered the schedule during a pay freeze but it didn't matter because pay was frozen. Now they're giving us "raises" based on the new, lower schedule. http://www.ncpublicschools.org/docs/fbs/finance/salary/schedules/2007-08schedules.pdfhttp://www.ncpublicschools.org/docs/fbs/finance/salary/schedules/2016-17schedules.pdf[Edited on February 20, 2017 at 7:54 PM.
