I'd much rather they play some of our good prospects than claim Hamill. I'm hoping that this move is because we're about to trade Ruutu for some prospects or making another move though. I doubt they'd just drop Stew for nothing, even if he hasn't been producing.

young player in a position that we are still trying to fill, high draft pedigreetypical JR reclamation project. don't shoot the messenger.

It all depends on what happens with the Ruutu situation. My vote is for shipping him out to the highest deadline day bidder. Allen and Spacek are as good as gone, and maybe a Checker or two will get thrown in a bigger deal.If JR and Ruutu come to terms on some kind of extension, this will officially be the most boring trade deadline ever.

I like Ruutu, but weren't they were reporting he wanted like 6 years, 30+ mil? I'd rather just get the best pick or prospect we can, because there has to be a lot of playoff teams that want him. Knowing us though, we'll sign him to an extension, and probably sign Larose to an extension just to make me more mad. Then we'll get like the 10th draft pick and take somebody boring.
2/6/2012 9:57:15 PM
Are we going to bitch about LaRose on every page of this thread? I feel like it's been done
2/6/2012 10:01:06 PM
I'd like to see Ruutu stay. Hopefully they'll spend market value on him, though that's doubtful. The whole situation with Cole last summer was regrettable, and this just feels like a repeat of it. Keep Ruutu around and add one damn good free agent this summer with all that cap room and I'd feel at least decent about next season.
2/7/2012 9:51:06 AM
I, too, find it regrettable that they considered re-signing Cole.

Hopefully it lights a fire under his ass. I love the guy, his tweets, and what appears to be a positive locker room presence. But eventually, you gotta produce. To be fair, I'd like for him to receive more than 8 min of ice timeAlso, from twitter:

I'm confused on what putting someone on waivers does if they are being kept in the NHL. I assume his salary changes?
2/7/2012 2:11:08 PM
Just gives the rest of the teams a chance to claim him and rid us of his salary. Dont think he has to be put on re-entry or anything.
2/7/2012 2:17:36 PM
It gives us the ability to send him to Charlotte within thirty days of clearing waivers, barring a claim being put on him. Technically he can be put on re-entry waivers without ever playing in the ahl, which gives teams the half salary option. But I am anticipating this being a move to keep our options open for trade season. We can demote Stewart immediately, in order to free roster space, without having to wait for the waiver period.

2/9/2012 7:19:53 AM
In this video I see a marginal tripping call at best, especially in an overtime, followed by weak coverage on Sheldon fucking Brookbank.
2/9/2012 8:38:36 AM
Agree on the weak coverage. You play through the whistle, and the Canes clearly did not. However, that is a penalty. The rules don't change in overtime. That was a missed call. On a more positive note, Ruutu's goal was sick. He's playing for a raise from JR or for the scouts who's team he is about to play for.
2/9/2012 9:10:29 AM
Yeah, I think the entire hockey world is in agreement that the Canes got hosed/jobbed/screwed by Peel on that no call. It was a trip plain and simple[Edited on February 9, 2012 at 9:14 AM. Reason : d]

According to Mike Maniscalco:
2/9/2012 3:34:07 PM
I hope Maniscalco doesn't think that's breaking newsit's been well-known for days that JR wants to get a deal done during this road trip
2/9/2012 3:36:48 PM
No, Rutherford said that he was going to sit down with Ruutu to see where things stood. Obviously the talks were fruitful, because as far as I know this is the first time he has come out and said that signing him is a priority. For a while he kept saying that he wasn't going to move players for the sake of moving them, indicating that he might hold on to some people, but this is certainly the first directly positive thing Rutherford has said publicly about Ruutu's contract.
2/9/2012 3:56:26 PM
Yep. We're getting the band back together.
2/9/2012 4:49:39 PM
Shit, JR said he wants to resign Ruutu?kiss of death, he's getting traded
2/9/2012 6:26:47 PM
^lol was my tthought. Rutherford usually treats trade time as opposite day
2/9/2012 6:53:48 PM
JR definitely uses the media as a tool in his dealings, no doubt about that. sneaky sumbitchpredictions folks?i'll take 4.75 mil per for 3 years, after JR makes a couple comments in the media about how talks have stalled, he hasn't spoken to ruutu's agent in days, and that he enjoyed having ruutu as part of the team, but now it's time to move forward.]

2/10/2012 11:29:21 AM
prediction: if we give Ruutu nearly 5 million fucking dollars per season, we won't be winning shit for a while. He's not worth more than $3.5 mil at best.
