I wish the game did a better job of tracking where you leave items. I'm trying to amass a pile of gems and gold in my house and it's not working.
12/13/2011 9:43:42 AM
i took a side job from the Thieves Guild to steal an item from a vendor in Whiterun. Problem is the item is on the 2nd floor in her bedroom of her place and everytime i go upstairs to get it she follows me. i have tried picking the lock and sneaking in at like 3am and i get to the door of her bedroom and everytime she wakes up and starts hollering at me. what am i supposed to do with this? she never leaves the place either. lol wtf am i to do? (besides killing her which i dont wanna do)
12/13/2011 11:01:37 AM
Can you marry her?
12/13/2011 11:06:13 AM
i have no idea.. how would i even go about finding that out?btw it is Arcadia of Arcadia's Cauldron in Whiterun. she is the apothecary/alchemist there. [Edited on December 13, 2011 at 11:23 AM. Reason : .]

You have to go to the Temple of Mara in Riften to start a quest series that will reward you with an Amulet of Mara. Once you get the amulet, wear it and ask one of the clergy in the temple about marriage.

^^ ah-ha will have to check that out, thanks for that info^ not wearing anything sneaky. i'm just in crouch mode creeping along slowly; and my sneak is probably crap since i havent worked on that one at all.
12/13/2011 12:02:40 PM
Well make sure you aren't wearing heavy armor when you try then. I've got robes and you can get within a few feet of people and they won't detect you, sleeping? no chance.

If you join the Dark Brotherhood, you can very easily get gear that would help you

I managed to finally afford my first house without discarding any dragon bones or scales, and now I have some of my weapons and other shit stashed in a chest, so I should be good to go on carrying capacityI've never played an Elder Scrolls game, but if they had called this Fallout 5 it would've worked for meyeah I know they're both Bethesda, but I remember seeing people play Morrowind back in the day and it seemed 100x more tedious as far as leveling things up than in Skyrim.
12/13/2011 5:11:29 PM
I'm like level 33 now and still haven't left whiterun or visited any of the other towns other than a brief trip to one I can't even remember the name.
12/13/2011 5:38:24 PM
yeah level 40 and im about to start diplomatic immunitythis game is just too fun
12/13/2011 6:09:40 PM
^^^ Yeah previous Elder Scrolls games had terrible leveling systems. You basically had to use a spreadsheet to not cheat yourself out of attribute improvements.[Edited on December 13, 2011 at 6:11 PM. Reason : ]

so I was wandering around Whiterun, looking for Jorrvaskr in order to talk to the leader of the Companions...and I see a cow, so I go up to him, give him a couple good shots to the head, and he takes off running...I chase him around town for probably 30 seconds, getting the occasional lick on him, then follow him up some stairs to, surprise, Jorrvaskr. So I'm like ok screw this cow, I'm gonna meet the leader of the Companions...when I enter, they all start attacking the shit out of me, I thought they were some deranged cults like in Fallout NV that high class society of cannibals...but when I loaded my game and went back in (without attacking the cow), they were fine...so I guess it was their cow or something, I dunno but it was funny

^^It's moderately amusing in places, but god damn, it's not nearly as funny as some of you retards are making it out to be. It's like he decided that if he says 'fuck' it's funny, so if he says 'fuck' 8,000 times, it must be 8,000 times as funny. And it's not.

I was in the middle of an Orc village quest, and two dragons came swooping in. They were the first dragons I had seen in a while. They came down and engaged us for about 30 seconds. They made two or three passes, and two hovers. I hit the a few times with UR and my arrows, and then they up and left. And never came back...?!
12/13/2011 11:55:48 PM
It happens. Usually I haven't seen them fly off when they land and commit to a fight, but I had one dragon do almost exactly what you said

I am at level 33 and been using a battlemage type character adept at conjuration and destruction. Also, keen on single hand combat when things get close and personnal or i run out of magicka.Hearing the rumors that destruction does not scale well past the 30's, i was wondering if I should start investing perks towards archery instead of destruction? I got the bound bow with mystic binding. Depending on how bad destruction is at the higher levels, this may be a better investment.
12/14/2011 8:38:34 AM
^ or just download the "improved destruction" mod: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=611
12/14/2011 8:43:28 AM
^^ Increasing skills you don't currently use will only make destruction worse faster. You should probably stick with 1 handed and just use it and destruction, and limit the number of non-essential skills you increase.Alternatively, if you are on PC there are mods for improving destruction.[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 8:44 AM. i keep forgetting that some folks made the mistake of buying the game for a console
12/14/2011 8:48:20 AM
^4It's a shame you went one handed over archery. The original plan was to sneak, use destruction and summons, but the bound bow quickly changed that plan. I'll eventually end up with 9 perks in archery Overdraw (5), Critical Shot (3), and Eagle Eye. I don't think I'll need the slow time perk since I'm already killing everything. I mentioned this on the other page, even blood dragons go down with 5-6 arrows. I'm killing them a whole lot faster than my heavy armor tank ever did and I'm completely out of harm's way.I thought things would break down and I'd find myself in a lot of close quarter combat. I planned on using destruction/summons to deal with those scenarios but I've found that those situations are very rare. I'm over powered as it is, so even casting a summoned creature would be overkill.Edit: Well I guess you were going for battle mage, not a sneak build. In that case, yeah the best bet is to get a destruction mod or wait for a balancing patch.[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 9:15 AM. Reason : -]

having never owned or used a 360, i'm trying to decide if i should pick up a new wireless 360 controller for $36 from amazon to use with skryimhttp://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Glossy-Black/dp/B003ZSP0WWthoughts?[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 9:41 AM. 12/14/2011 9:41:39 AM
Well I use mouse and keyboard for Skyrim but I do use my 360 controller on my PC a lot.If you get one, get a wired controller. Wireless controllers are more expensive plus they require a separate adapterhttp://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1323874474&sr=1-4[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 10:07 AM. Almost positive that controller on its own won't work on a PC. So, yes, buy one, buy twenty, die in a car fire.
12/14/2011 10:01:19 AM
ah, did not realize that...i thought it came with a receiver or connected with bluetooth or something...thanks for the heads up
12/14/2011 10:24:56 AM
Comes with a USB cable for charging, but that's not good enough for Windows.
12/14/2011 10:28:50 AM
The wired controller works well, plus how far back are you actually gonna sit to play it on a PC? Most people have their faces right up near the screen.
12/14/2011 10:30:25 AM
^ i play it on the HTPC in my living room, about 8 feet away
12/14/2011 11:05:13 AM
The cord is probably long enough, especially if you have a USB port in the front of your PC. I have my face right up on the screen, so I have a massive tangle of extra cord on the desk.Edit: Product info on amazon says 9 foot cable.[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 11:41 AM. Reason : -]
12/14/2011 11:40:14 AM
well, the HTPC is actually a "regular" tower and it sits behind the TV (i have an alcove of a sort that the TV fills perfectly and you can't see behind it...but if it's 9 feet long, that would be enough
12/14/2011 2:13:10 PM
I think there are extension cords anyway if it comes down to that
12/14/2011 8:09:51 PM
12/14/2011 8:30:15 PM
So about twenty levels ago I found Red Eagle's Sword after reading a book.Yesterday, while reading the same book in another dungeon, the quest came back.I may have to ditch Adnar (level 47) and start the game again...as a f'n badass.
12/14/2011 8:46:39 PM
There's far more to Bethesda games modding than the ability to cheat. And my PC was well under $1000 when I built it 2 years ago and still runs Skyrim perfectly.
12/14/2011 8:52:58 PM
I'll be making another video with my high definition texture mods fully loaded. You'll see how a PC can make Skyrim really shine.
12/14/2011 9:04:49 PM
game runs fine for my on my 360...but my TV is about 8 years old, and like all Bethesda games, I end up having to adjust the convergence to see the essential stuff on the edges of the screen, while sacrificing part of the text on an opposite edgei wish more games had manual X- and Y-axis video adjustments in their settings
12/14/2011 9:05:22 PM
The TV I have (girkfriends) is a giant projector box monstrosity with DVI for HDTV. I had the same edge problems with Skyrim. i originally had it hooked up with component, then I got an HDMI to DVI cable and now the TV display adjusts to the console's settings with about the same or slightly better video quality
