"im in zebulon and i have centipede. It needs a fuckton of water to get going. It turns green usually later in the spring but once it gets going, its pretty strong and tough. It's usually the last grass that goes dormant in the fall as well. My only complaint is mine hasn't taken over like I thought. I had put down some rye grass in some bare spots a few years ago just to fill and thinking the centepede would take it over but it never did."

centipede seems great. I have some volunteered in my yard and it's doing great. people tell me that it's not good for high traffic though (mine doesn't have much traffic for now). Also, at least what's in my yard greens pretty early. I'd say zoysia takes a long damn time (still waiting on it to really green up). The centipede has taken over various areas with no care on my part.

"is this shit gonna invade my mulched beds?"

bermuda can be controlled, but you can't get lazy with maintenance. i get sprouts in the middle of mulch beds and when I pull it, the root goes several feet back into the yard, so it's not just edging to keep it in check. Well, unless you are actually edging / trenching it and not just cutting overgrowth

i think i'm going to bite the bullet on my next yard and go zoysia. other than cost, someone talk me out of it.

by edging, i mean an actual edger with a vertical blade that cuts down into the soil, not a string trimmer

gotta do it every week or two before the runners have time to get roots down. some will still make it through. that's where the herbicide comes in.

spotted a little rust and maybe some other type of fungus on the lawn from this rainy period. Went ahead and dropped some Scott's Disease Ex.
