I just installed android on my Sprint Touch Pro. In effect, I'm dual booting android and windows mobile. Totally sweet, but with hiccups, since everything is running off the SD-card. Interface seems comparable to SPB Mobile Shell with a couple other tweaks. I want to check the video playback ability, does anyone know of a player that can play back divx files?

I had an Eris for a week or so and really like Sense UI. Plus, I'm kinda scared of all the problems reported with the N1 so far. Google seems to be addressing the fragmentation issue as one of their top priorities so hopefully waiting for updates in the future won't be so bad. Yeah the extra data fee for 4G kinda sucks, also so does waiting till June Outside of that, the bigger screen and the wi-fi hotspot feature are the main reasons for me wanting the Evo. I know there are ways of getting the hotspot feature on other phones but you have to root it to do that right?[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 8:23 PM. Reason : eh]

yeah, I have wifi tether on my droid but it required root and a custom rom/kernel

I need the ability to get push email from multiple gmail accounts. Is this included in Android OS 2.0 and higher or is that a phone specific thing?
4/14/2010 11:06:49 PM
Works for me on a Droid with 2.1. Worked with 2.0 too, IIRC.
4/15/2010 8:26:51 AM
Just set 'em up as Gmail accounts using the built-in tools, and it works fine. Push should work on any and all Gmail accounts that you configure. I have three on mine... one Gmail, two Google Apps. All get messages quickly.

Just installed Swype on the Nexus One. Already had it on the G1. I used to hate it (several months ago) but man was I wrong. Everyone needs to get swype on their phone and at least try it out.Physical KB's and pecking are a think of the past. I can't go back to a normal (or soft) KB now. I know the beta is closed now but I found some on XDA for both the G1 and N1.
4/15/2010 11:26:41 AM
^what he said, i think i've already stated it twice, worth posting again, Swype is absolutely revolutionary, love using it on my Droid.

I told yall this ~3 months ago.

Official press release for the Incredible, available for pre-order on April 19th and relased on April 29th:http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-htc-officially-announces-droid-incredible
4/15/2010 3:48:09 PM
Usually cheaper at best buy right? Vzw is saying $300-$100 mail in rebate...
4/15/2010 4:04:55 PM
yeah, and you don't have to do mail-in rebates with Best Buy and will usually price match. Don't forget about their secondary ETF though:
4/15/2010 4:13:21 PM
so, since im up for a new phone this summer on verizon and I am planning to take the plunge into the world of smart phones, this Incredible seems like it would be a pretty sweet first smart phone. Will this come with free google maps driven gps like the Droid does? Wasn't sure whether that was an Android OS thing or something just offered on the Motorola Droid.I see "integrated GPS" but wasnt sure whether they were talking hardware of the free functionality or what.(Probably a n00b question, sorry)[Edited on April 15, 2010 at 4:27 PM. 4/15/2010 4:23:13 PM
yeah, android 1.6+ now supports google nav. The Incredible runs 2.1 so it'll have it.
4/15/2010 4:26:40 PM
Awesome, thanks. I guess I need to re-read a lot of this thread to catch up Also, this is using the HTC Sense UI correct? Opinions on that vs whats on Motorola's Droid? (I am comparing this to that simply because I have been able to get hands on with these phones a few times)[Edited on April 15, 2010 at 4:28 PM. Reason : ]

SenseUI is on the HTC devices, not on Motorola devices, although if you root a Droid you can OC it to 1Ghz and get SenseUI using a custom ROM, but they're still working on it.HTC Incredible will run 1Ghz out of the box so it will be a lot more responsive than the Droid stock speed. SenseUI is a pretty nice interface, the question is how well it will perform, I know some people on the NexusOne have had issues with it being a bit laggy, even on 1Ghz.
4/15/2010 4:36:19 PM
appreciate it guys
4/15/2010 4:44:21 PM
I find it interesting that the VZ Navigator bull crap is available in the Android app market (according to some of the HTC Incredible press releases I've read) but yet the phones come with free Google Maps GPS

SenseUI on the Droid. Runs pretty smooth at 1Ghz. They apparently have the call issue while connected to 3G fixed and are working out a couple last minute bugs
4/18/2010 6:52:53 PM
^ plz to keep up posted on this.
4/18/2010 6:55:17 PM
hopefully the Incredible has a better way of turning the phone to vibrate mode and back...unlike the damn droid which would quietly cancel my selection of "Vibrate on" and cause me to miss calls and texts in my pocket
4/18/2010 7:33:11 PM
^...?
4/18/2010 7:57:03 PM
you have a droid right? go into settings and check vibrate. now lock the screen, and slide to go into silent mode. no longer vibrates. slide back into normal more. still no vibrate. it just erases your setting. this is a known bug with the droid:http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/16191-silent-mode-turns-vibrate-off.html
4/18/2010 8:16:36 PM
I never actually use the silent slider. Believe some of the custom roms have it where it will enable only vibrate or go back to normal. I just use Quick Profiles and have one for silent and one for normal.
4/18/2010 8:57:57 PM
how do i get vibrate on my notifications and how do i delete apps that are boogering up my shit. I fucking hate this phonealso the battery cover comes off my phone while its in my pocket and ive bent up the god fucking dammed metal piece all to shit.
4/18/2010 10:11:27 PM

4/18/2010 10:19:09 PM
^ stick with nextel
4/19/2010 12:05:17 AM
Shit. I loved my blackberry.
4/19/2010 8:11:59 AM
You should be able to go into the app and change the vibrate and/or ringtone in the options. To remove an app, you just go to Settings, Applications, Select the one you want and hit uninstall.Android central walkthrough of the Incrediblehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxGgc-RbhWghttp://www.androidcentral.com/review-verizon-htc-droid-incredibleEngadget Reviewhttp://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5269

i was meaning a curve 8310 to a droiddroid is land of a thousand button pushes to do anythingi don't do newer bbs
4/19/2010 8:54:55 AM
There's a learning curve but it isn't that bad as long as you take the time to play around with it. In the end, Android >>>>>> Failberry

my alarm hasn't gone twice now, nothing to do with app killer. this morning i had it set for 6:38. i roll over to check what time it is- 6:41 and then the air decides to go off as i'm looking at it but i'm liking it more and more each day. setting your own ringtones to alarms is a chore and a half

Simple Battery Cover fix for Droid:http://lifehacker.com/5420606/fix-a-loose-battery-cover-on-your-droidIf you've bent it beyond repair, take the cover back or ask Motorola for a new one, they should have a standard warranty for it.For setting vibrate for notifications:1) Messaging: Go to the messaging main menu (not in a thread) and click menu (the button with 4 lines on it), click settings, then scroll to the bottom. You should have an option to turn on notifications, set the notification tone, and set it to vibrate.2) Google Talk: Go to the main screen, click menu, click more, click settings, scroll to the bottom. You should have the same options as the messaging app, ringtone setting and vibrate.3) Phone: Just use your volume buttons on the side to set your ringer to vibrate only. This will also disable all notification tones and you should get a vibrate on any call, sms, or IM.Posting pictures:a) In the camera app, make sure it's set to camera, go into your settings and make sure you're taking high-resolution pictures with fine quality. Go to the app you want to upload with there are hundreds. Each app should ask you which picture to upload and probably has size/quality restrictions, but otherwise should upload the picture at full quality, as always check your settings. If you're looking for a generic app, photobucket has an app, otherwise twidroid or facebook both have upload features built-in.[Edited on April 19, 2010 at 6:58 PM. Reason : .]

any news on the 2.1 update for the eris? ive googled it and still cant find i date when the update will be available. i know there is a rom version that you can load. can anyone shed some insight on this
4/19/2010 8:28:28 PM
^ I cant recall hearing a release date, but I have to ask... why not root man?
4/20/2010 9:55:29 AM
Last I saw on the Android and Me blog was either 2H or 3Q of this year.
4/20/2010 10:07:32 AM
yeah, think the hero is supposed to get the 2.1 update in May so maybe Verizon won't be too far behind.
4/20/2010 10:27:06 AM
i want to root it.. but i dont feel comfortable enough doing it.. doesnt it void the warranty if you do? and im also nervous that it will fuck up the o.s and i will fucked. can you downgrade back down to 1.5 if it fucks up
4/20/2010 9:58:16 PM
do you guys have swype on the marketplace yet? the only way i'd switch to an android device from my hardware keyboard tp2 is if there was swype
4/20/2010 10:00:36 PM
^nah, it's only available to those who got it in Beta or have found a leaked copy of it.^^ I know you can backtrack fairly easily on the droid but not sure about the eris. I haven't seen any mention of it though.
4/20/2010 10:09:55 PM
does anyone know of a "remote kill switch" prog that will allow me to kill my phone if I lose it like the NCSU grad from Apple?
