Yeh. People seem to conveniently forget that there are two separate institutions of marriage. There is the religious institution, which is governed by individual religions and churches. Then there is the legal institution of marriage, which is completely separate from the religious institution. The problem lies with the government having its own institution - if they want it, then it must be equal for all. If the government gets rid of marriage licensing, then this whole debate is moot.
