26.I have a pair of Red Oak twelve packs with which to ring in '11! These'll make damn fine boilermakers with Tenntucky's finest as well...

just picked up an alpine nelson ipa, deschutes 2010 jubel, and malheur 12 to add to tonight's festivitiesbooze shopping on new years eve is insane, i stopped by bevmo on a celebration ale hunt and it was beyond crazyenjoyed some pretty good beers when i was back in asheville, thanks to those who had some recommendations -- i think i tried the green man ipa, nantahala ipa, shiva ipa (asheville brew co), and pisgah pale on tap when i was out and about -- all were definitely drinkable, enjoyed the green man ipa and pisgah pale the mostalso put down a sixer or so of hopsecutioners, good stuff

pisgah :thumbsup:had the Infinium tonight, quality. interesting as I've never had a Biere de Champagne before, reminded me a lot of the New Belgium Biere de Garde, bubbly like a champagne, but had an interesting flair to it like a wild yeast ale. glad I tried it.

Had a growler of this last night:Was pretty amazing. Had a bit of sweetness to it that took out the usual "bite" that Stone's IPAs have in it. Still nice and hoppy like a good Stone IPA should be, just a little less bitter. Delicious.Bought this...but haven't tried it yet:Anyone had it yet?? Guy at the Beer Exchange said it was one of his favorite stouts. Here is the description: (CAT POOP!!)

FFFFUUUUU bottle of Moylans Dragoon Dry Irish Stout for bottle bombing in my girlfriend's fridge last night. And then making me smelly your roasty malty goodness as I wipe sticky beer off of every condiment for the next 30 minutes
1/7/2011 8:32:06 AM
tried port's mongo double ipa for the first time yesterday -- really great, almost comparable to pliny in my opinion (!)also had some fresh dorado on tap (probably my favorite)went to a 1-yr anniversary party at eagle rock brewery today -- pretty solid brews, nothing amazing (though i'm a big fan of their brand new anniversary flanders red) but all very drinkable, LA's a little late to the craft brew scene but hopefully this one will last...

Didn't they change the Battlefield Bock a while back? I seem to remember it being awesome when it was just "Battlefield." Haven't had the newer version. And I'd definitely go for a black and tan with that mixed in. I'd agree with your sentiment about the beers on their own. I bet they would be pretty good together.

Got some Left Hand Milk Stout the other day. It's pretty tasty, but none of the flavors really stand out. Finally did the Big Boss tour the other day and tried the aces & ates coffee stout. It was decent, not as good as I hoped though. The Big Operator was great though, much better than the last time I had it.
1/10/2011 4:24:37 PM
I really like the Left Hand Milk Stout actually.
1/10/2011 4:25:56 PM
Yeah its good, I was just hoping for a little more flavor
1/10/2011 4:27:58 PM
^^^^It was battlefield black when I turned 21, and I was never really a fan- that was around for a couple of years, then it disappeared for a while, and then it came back as the Bock, which had more flavor IMO
1/10/2011 4:35:29 PM
That's what I was thinking of! I always like the Battlefield Black. It was like drinking a tasty bottle of oil.
1/10/2011 4:40:36 PM
you know, if I had to describe it, that is probably what I would say myself
1/10/2011 4:41:35 PM
Drinking some sweetwater blue it's pretty tasty
1/10/2011 4:41:50 PM
Lindsey is a fan of it... I don't mind blueberry beers, as long as they aren't too sweet (she got one the other day that made my face pucker)
1/10/2011 4:42:58 PM
Yeah it's a bit on the sweet side but nice for drinking with dinner or on a weeknight

Went to Old Mecklenburg last Friday night when visiting Charlotte. Was not impressed. Not a huge fan of dusseldorf beers (not many lagers in general) but thought that their beer was very very average. Pretty bad aftertaste that comes from the Bavarian malts and hops and just didn't taste very refined. They only have 2 year-round beers, and I actually thought their seasonal dunkel was the best beer they had. Anyhow, just my opinion. Charlotte needs a decent brewery that does ales.Brought home some Trader Joe's Vintage & other Unibroue brews along with some Highland Gaelic Ale.
1/10/2011 4:49:02 PM
left hand and duck rabbit are my two go-to stouts, considering their relatively wide availabilityi actually really liked the aces & ates. had it on the tour first and then it was on tap like everywhere, haha. haven't tried the big operator yet, they hadn't finished it yet when i took the tour... but it sounds amazing.in other news, had this the other night:dfh burton baton... basically an english ale mixed with the 90 min. absolutely delicious. i don't think i've ever quite tasted anything like it... the closest i can think of would be the delirium christmas beer.

1/10/2011 11:12:15 PM
I went to Red Oak on friday and took the tour. Cool stuff to hear the guy talk.$5 and you get to sample the beer and take home a pint glass. I got 2 growlers also.Red oak Battlefield Bock is some delicious stuff.I want to go to the duck rabbit brewery in farmville one day. Has anyone been there?

I wish they would start carrying Sweetwater east of RDU. I suppose it's better than GA or Asheville as previously distributed.
1/11/2011 9:22:40 AM
Finally got around to drinking this last night:OMG, yum. I'm a huge fan of stouts...and this is probably the best I've ever had. Once it warmed up a bit, the coffee flavor really came out and it was delicious. And at 10.9%, I was nice and buzzed by the time I was finished (really didn't taste like it had 11% in it). Also had a growler of the allagash/new beligium vrienden:Good beer...just a little too tart for me. Probably won't be a re-purchase on that one.

It's delicious. If you like stouts and coffee...it's perfection.
1/11/2011 10:09:19 AM
can you find it anywhere around raleigh? that sounds awfully intriguing.
1/11/2011 10:13:05 AM
Don't know. Got it at the Charleston Beer Exchange.
