anyone do a 3D/4D ultrasound package? Is it worth it? I keep hearing it's really not much different than a typical ultrasound at the doctor's office.
2/21/2018 3:39:24 PM
we didn't do a "package". they just did one 3D/4D anyways whenever we did the normal ones and we didn't care about ordering any additional. do I regret it? nope.p.s. our youngest turned 1 this saturday.... also: it's official, i'm shooting blanks!

It's great if you want spooky pictures of a fetus.
2/21/2018 6:35:08 PM
We did it for our first but not our second if that tells you anything. It was okay but I wouldn't spend too much on it.
2/22/2018 4:31:40 PM
Our insurance covered it...it was weird. If I had to pay for it, I wouldn't do it.

4/22/2018 3:57:05 PM
Where do you people find babysitters?
4/22/2018 7:18:52 PM
we don't. srsly tho, the few times we are able to do so, we ask friends who either have kids or friends who want to have kids and would like to test the waters. worked out so far.disclaimer: most of them are professional teachers of young children, so YMMV
4/23/2018 1:49:57 PM
We're surrounded by college students, teachers, and daycare workers trying to make an extra buck. We have to beat off babysitters with a stick. My in-laws also live 15 minutes away and want to babysit all the time. With that being said...we hardly use either. We either take him with us to early dinners or just cook at home or do take-out. He goes down around 7pm every night...so its right in the middle of that "do we get a babysitter/go out time". The few times we've used a sitter...we put him down and then go out to dinner, maybe a drink afterwards...but it's basically paying someone to sit on the couch and watch TV for 2+ hours. So it seems like its either not worth it for us or for them (or both). But my wife has finally stopped breast feeding him at night, so we can probably start experimenting with someone else putting him down and maybe heading out earlier and making a full night of it.

Thanks. 2 questions1) does it make a difference if I open an nc529 plan through cfnc or vanguard directly? I already have a vanguard account, so I'd like to manage both through vanguard. The cfnc site doesn't make it clear if you are signing up through them solely, or if actually opens a vanguard account. Vanguard says the 529 plan is sponsored be Nevada, but I don't know what that means.2) what's the best option for general investing on a child's behalf? In this case, my newborn. Not sure I seen the true value of a umga/umta account vs a general investment joint account .3) anyone take out a whole life policy on a child that's paid up in 20-30 years? I know there are products specifically for this purpose. My dad did it for his children, which is nice. I've got a nice little while life policy in my name, paid up, has a good cash value, and earns about 5% annually. And I'm guaranteed additional life if I want it. So there are perka to this, but I don't know if it outweighs putting more into a nc529 plan or other investment.

Abby loves walking around campus. She likes those big wolves they put up between Tucker and the other dorm. I can't even remember the name. Turlington? Alexander?
10/11/2018 9:56:35 PM
The giant wolves are between Turlington and Alexander, where I used to stay. My daughter loves them, too. I was gonna post a photo, but I've forgotten how. </oldAF>

I, on the other hand, feel old...having my first baby at 34. Been with my wife for 13 years and we've seriously talked about kids for probably 8 years... but stuff came up and it was easy to kick that rock further down the road. My mom was thrilled when we finally announced...I think she was getting worried.
4/16/2021 10:21:57 PM
Yea my boss is my age and just got married for the first time last year. He'd only been with his girlfriend a couple years (her first marriage too) so wasn't one of those things where they dated for a decade or something. They are talking about having kids soon and he would almost certainly celebrate 40 before the first one is born. Meanwhile I can count on one hand the number of years until we could theoretically be empty nesters! Shit is kinda crazy when you think about it.
