It'd be nice to see Julian Burnett get an offer. We'll likely miss out on Hawatha Bell, and it'd be nice to bring in two MLBs in this class. You know he's got to be pretty stout when he's 5'9.5", weighs 222 lbs., and can still run a 4.51 40. Burnett has offers from Ole Miss, Purdue, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. He's also been recruited by UGA, UAB, GT, Auburn, and Vandy.

I'd be nice to get any commit, we're in a month long drought.
11/5/2008 8:43:26 PM
^^Sounds like Stephen Tulloch, at least in the build.^No kidding. Maybe one this afternoon? Hopefully?

J.Boyd to announce in about 10 minutes.
11/6/2008 11:25:57 AM
^any word on that?
11/6/2008 11:44:56 AM
It's UNC, just announced
11/6/2008 11:49:01 AM
fucking figures
11/6/2008 12:07:17 PM
How many commits are they going to take this year? Seems like they're striving to be the youngest football team in america every season.
11/6/2008 12:13:16 PM
i would fix this to accurately represent NCSU if I could
11/6/2008 12:18:32 PM
Their roster is up to about 93 for next season. And they're planning on taking several more. There's gonna be a lot of off-season attrition on that team this year. I kind of get the feeling that the strategy is something like:Recruit the best players you can get.Let them play young. Some of them will prove to be good/very good. Some will prove to suck or be average. Kick off the average players. Make them transfer, reveal their failed drug tests (aha conspiracy theory), flat out revoke their scholarships, whatever.Replace those players with new, highly rated recruits. After a couple of years, the only upperclassmen left on the roster will be studs. All the scrubs have been purged. Your starters will be a mix of experienced, very good upperclassmen and some superstar young players. Your depth will be filled with sophomores and freshmen, but hopefully they're really good, too. This will lead to perpetually small senior classes and big recruiting classes. Your seniors will be good, so the team should be pretty good. But your depth is young, so you can continue to sell the "young, up-and-coming team" line.Perhaps some people would say that's unethical - if the recruit commits to you for 4 years, you should commit to him for 4 years. But other people would just say that that's competition. Scholarships are renewed on a yearly basis, and if you're not good enough to play (at least, play significantly better than a freshman), then why should we pay you to go to school?o well.

^haha, agreed. definitely went out on a limb on that one...

but you statement says IF HE STAYS in state...so even if he went there, your statement isn't necessarily wrong.
11/6/2008 3:03:06 PM
maybe we will still have a chance with him after he de-commits when butch leaves for tennesseewould have loved to have gotten him but receiver isn't even close to our biggest position of need; hate to lose a big-time guy like that but receiver is one place that it doesn't hurt as much as some others[Edited on November 6, 2008 at 3:22 PM. 11/6/2008 3:21:17 PM
We need some DTs and DEs, as well as a couple more o-linemen. Safety is also an area of future need.
11/6/2008 3:24:59 PM
^yep. these are the positions that i hope we bring in the highest caliber talent and the most prospects as wellwe are still going after a lot of guys that are 3 and 4 star at these positions as well. would love to reel some of those in to fill out this class.our recruiting will pick up big-time i believe once we start winning some games. win some down the stretch this year to get these guys in and i personally think we will be really good next year and see a ton of improvement. that is where i see our recruiting picking up[Edited on November 6, 2008 at 3:27 PM. 11/6/2008 3:26:00 PM
We're gonna win some more games this year?
11/6/2008 3:29:06 PM
^lol. not saying it is a guarantee or anything, but more wishful thinking. i would say we have improved a ton the past three weeks though with a more consistent, healthy lineup in there. were in our last 3 games in the fourth quarter with a chance to win. gotta try and find some silver lining this year. i do think if we won a couple down the stretch then it would really give recruiting a little boost heading into the offseason. and i believe we will be really good next year. i really do (provided we can stay reasonably healthy). our recruiting will take off big time if we can start consistently winning. the best thing about our recruiting is that TOB is a great talent evaluator and will find FOOTBALL PLAYERS. he did a great job of this at BC and there is no reason to think he won't continue or even get better with a better talent base here. We need to go on a 5 game winning streak (Duke, Wake, UNC, Miami, & crappy bowl game).Let's keep hope alive.I should have known that Boyd would go to UNC from the start. He is from Gastonia anyways. [Edited on November 6, 2008 at 4:04 PM. Reason : ]

Big pickup for UNC.. hate we missed out on himBut we have other areas to improve.. and I wouldn't mind seeing UNC keep filling up their scholarships with skill position players because IMO they are neglecting the most glaring weakness of the team in the OL. In the past 3 years they only have only brought in 7 OL(2 so far this year) compared to our 12(1 so far this year). They still have a few more spots and will probably get another OL commitment but they are seemingly running out quicklyBut, like I said.. would have loved to have gotten Boydv[Edited on November 6, 2008 at 8:21 PM. Reason : v yeah I must have seen DT as OT.. just validates my point further]
11/6/2008 8:04:47 PM
^ UNC only has one OL commitment for 2009 (David Collins)
11/6/2008 8:17:06 PM
Will someone re-cap me on some of our more prominent '08 recruits? We had six "4*s" (according to Rivals: Glennon, Barnes, Mattes, Linney, Jones, & Manning).Obviously, I don't follow religiously. Of course I know about Glennon, and Barnes and Mattes are red-shirting, right?
11/9/2008 10:58:32 PM
^Linney is gone, as in, off the team.Glennon, Barnes, Manning, Mattes are red-shirting. Supposedly Mattes(and the other freshmen OL) have been looking STOUT in practice. Allen and Wallace have been looking great.Jones is coming in this coming January and will go through spring practice with the Pack. Expect him to redshirt next year.
11/9/2008 11:14:08 PM
andrew wallace will be ready to start in a year or two. he's progressed a LOT over the last year
11/10/2008 12:39:30 AM
nothing but good things have come out about all the OL redshirting this year. very encouraging.
11/10/2008 9:37:57 AM
Is Dominique Ellis redshirting or not? I can't remember.
11/10/2008 9:55:35 AM
Ellis has played some this season I am pretty sure. He's #20, right?
11/10/2008 10:16:05 AM
Ellis, Graham, Maddox, and Lucas are the only true freshmen who have played.Manning came in recovering from an ACL tear, so he was never expected to play. If it wasn't for the injury, it's a safe bet to say he'd be playing instead of Lucas. The redshirting OL have supposedly been extremely impressive. Rumors are that the staff seriously debated playing them after the first bye week this year just to get them some game experience. If that's true, then they're probably expecting them to play a good bit next year.
11/10/2008 10:29:05 AM
^Taylor Gentry
11/10/2008 10:49:51 AM
I hope Gentry gets a scholarship after this year. He deserves it after coming in and playing pretty well when he wasn't really expected to play.
11/10/2008 10:52:21 AM
The OL info is very encouraging. You have to kind of lay the groundwork in terms of a gameplan in case RW decides this season or next is last for football. At some point, Glennon will need / want to get in there and Russell may be focusing on baseball. The future is a little bit brigther right now. Not the usual WTNY crap.

What's going on with what?
11/10/2008 12:44:35 PM
^^He didn't pass algebra II or something so he had to retake that and join us this Spring.
11/10/2008 2:07:46 PM
11/10/2008 2:26:14 PM
Lucas is going to be a good one. That guy moves almost effortedlessly out there -- really seems to have good footwork/speed for a LB.If there's one bright spot about Nate getting hurt, it's that it lowers his chances to go the draft. During the ECU game, I would've told you the guy was not only going to go, but would be a first round pick. Now probably not so much. As crappy as our defense has been this year, they have a chance to be decent-to-good next year if everyone returns.
11/10/2008 2:53:45 PM
way too early to be talking about Nate going earlyof course he's coming back next year
11/10/2008 4:06:44 PM
the team needs to put on a good show this weekend. DE Luke Sager and OT Travis Bond are taking official visits. we need both, but Bond is a top priority.
11/11/2008 1:53:37 PM
Sager probably ends up at USF.
11/11/2008 2:09:56 PM
Besides Bond and Sager, are any other guys visiting this weekend?
11/12/2008 10:22:40 AM
I didn't really know where to put this but it wasn't thread worthy. I was over on craigslist because of another thread and Markus Kuhn has some girl all about him in the missed encounters section. I think there are at least three separate ads.
11/13/2008 1:19:49 AM
Supposed to be cold and rainy this weekend. Not ideal for visits. Hopefully we'll catch a break though.
