^ I disagree with your statement, If you buy a quality 1911 and feed it good ammo, it is reliable. If you want a sleeper bullseye gun look into Les Baer, they sell some models with a pretty tight accuracy guarantee.
11/4/2008 6:55:11 PM
Yeah, but you've got to dump in a MINIMUM of a grand into a 1911 to get the reliability you can get from a $500 polymer gun.I'm sorry, to me, there isn't much logic in dropping $2k to get a single action, single stack, and still fairly sizable gun.
11/4/2008 8:08:03 PM
^ agreed.
11/4/2008 8:29:41 PM
Speaking of polymers, anyone owned a Glock 20? Opinions of the 10mm?

11/4/2008 9:55:47 PM
I'm not just thinking 2 legs. I'm thinking 4 actually. I mean, yeah, you're not going to put it up against a grizzly in the Yukon, but I wouldn't mind having one for the back-woods in the NC / Va mountains. I know the benefits of a .44 mag, but you're limited to 6 rounds. I'll have 15+1 in a Glock 10.^ and you're right, you can DIY. But getting the equipment and the experience to DIY right isn't usually cheap. ]
11/4/2008 9:58:39 PM
10mm would be good for the woods. It's real close to 41 mag performance.I wanted one for so long but couldn't justify it.If I did get one, it would have been an EAA Witness for the ergonomics. The Glock 20 would be a better choice for hiking due to weight. If you have deeper pockets then there's always a 1911 Delta Elite or S&W 1006.

So with the new "change" america voted for... What are the odds of a ccp becoming harder to get? Is this something I need to worry about? I have been wanting to take class, get permit, etc.. but have had other things come up and have had to postpone... [/a little ignorant]
11/4/2008 11:26:29 PM
a lot depends on the house and senate. The CCW laws are state to state, and with it all being so close i don't think the dems will risk trying a national ban, see 1994 and how much it cost them. you should go buy an ar15 receiver and get your ccw now. you will thank me later.
11/4/2008 11:46:07 PM
You have two months for any real changes to take affect, though prices will continue to rise steadily. It is something you will want to get on top of.
11/4/2008 11:54:14 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-4jqZSEo0QYou'd better get ready for a return of the Brady 'Assault' Weapon Ban with a vengance, and potentially an attack on CCW.And their definition of an 'assault' weapon is incredibly broad and covers a LOT of guns that in reality are nothing like assault weapons. So you'd better get your high-cap mags and anything else that was out under the old ban while you can, usually these things get grandfathered in.[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 1:24 AM. Reason : ]

My only hope for another AWB is somehow a sunset gets put in it....but I doubt it. On a somewhat related note, 7.62x39 is up to $229 a case. It was $209 on Saturday night, and 199 a few days before that at ammoman.comAs far as a CCW goes, I don't see the laws in NC changing anytime soon, unless someone with a CCW goes apeshit and looses a screw or two. Bev Purdue believe it or not got a A- rating from the NRA. Nationally, while Obama has stated he is for a national ban on concealed carry, I don't see anything getting passed anytime soon. Only way I can think for him / congress to do it would be similar to how they (by they I refer to the government in general) made the drinking age 21 or require you to wear a seatbelt in your car.
11/5/2008 5:35:21 AM
Do any of you have any knowledge regarding Del Ton rifles out of Elizabethtown NC? Are their rifles pretty good quality?
11/5/2008 8:15:15 PM
Top notch stuff, from everyone I've talked to that has one. They're pretty backed up right now though, between Christmas and the election results, so get your order in quickly if you want anything built.
11/5/2008 10:46:08 PM
Their quality is top notch, I have some stuff from there and like it. Every upper and lower is test fired to check function. They are very busy, you will probbably have to order your stuff and wait if its not in stock right now.
11/5/2008 10:59:12 PM
I have a Del-Ton midlength upper and lower parts kit on a DPMS lower.Del-Ton makes good quality parts.Everything fits well and everything is within spec. For the AR purists, Del-Ton isn't absolutely true to mil-spec grade, but for your average joe it is great.I'd say Del-Ton's quality is right at the point of diminishing returns. Any more money and you won't be buying anything significant.
11/5/2008 11:00:57 PM
I have a serious question....while we're on the topic...lets say that somehow Obama does get a CCW-ban to pass...how many of ya'll would still carry???....
11/5/2008 11:21:37 PM
what guns, I don't have any guns, I sold them all years ago, ohh, and lost the receipts....I do not consent to any searches......
11/6/2008 8:56:18 AM
Pretty confident they'll have a warrant.
11/6/2008 12:43:34 PM
yeah, im going to get a couple guns while i can now before jan 20 just in case
11/6/2008 2:19:55 PM
just worry about the AWB and a 500% tax on ammo...
11/6/2008 4:30:37 PM
i went ahead and dropped a couple hundred bucks on ammo yesterday.now i need another gun to buy ammo forthe traceable ammo thing scares me though, cause im not about to throw mine out as they require
11/6/2008 4:53:33 PM
I dont think it will ever fly, its too easy to remove a mark, even on the base of a projectile. They might try it. Join the NRA. AR15s are modular and easy to assemble, but lowers and not complete guns. you will only need one set of parts, build each lower so that reciever has possesed those evil features, photograph it, then move the parts to the next. preban parts were availble throughout the 94 awb ban.
11/6/2008 5:43:08 PM
i'm thinking that gun-grabbing is low enough down the priority list and a volatile enough issue that the Dems won't expend political capital over it. i just don't think they'll be able to justify the risk vs reward.
11/6/2008 6:31:52 PM
not after what it did to them in '94.
11/6/2008 6:53:34 PM
i think that was more about hillarycare, but the AWB was surely a factor, too.but yeah, basically...and there are other enough issues that busybodies on the left are more concerned with at the moment.
11/6/2008 7:05:58 PM
they might get states to risk losing federal funding if they don't do away with concealed carry permits. I doubt we see another AWB though.
11/6/2008 7:07:15 PM
Get ready for another gun ban...here is Obama's agenda
11/7/2008 12:56:26 AM
I really want to purchase something and learn how to shoot it for home defenseI want to learn how to hunt someday too, but I'm not sure how to go about that.
11/7/2008 1:23:14 AM
home defense is an easy question:Just decide whether you want your 12 gauge shotgun to be pump or semi-automatic.
11/7/2008 11:00:56 AM
Just FYI PDHSC has a few AR-15 lowers left and one AR-10 lowergood time to stock up
11/7/2008 12:31:49 PM
^^^If you're in Raleigh, I can hit the range with you and let you kick the tires on a few different guns. I go about every week. (that goes for everyone else too - I need more range buddies )As far as hunting, just find someone you know that will take you out with them a few times. Most folks are open to helping someone else get into the sport. I don't hunt, but I'll gladly help anyone get started in reloading or recreational/self-defense shooting.[Edited on November 7, 2008 at 5:54 PM. Check out the front page of wral.com right now. Gun sales have surged since they announced the election results. Who ever said that gun grabbing was a low priority was a moron.
11/7/2008 9:13:04 PM
yeah monday i ordered several hicaps for the g19 and a TON of range ammo since it was on sale. now im glad i did. ive still been kicking around the idea of building an ar and will probably buy another pistol or two before january. and my new license should be here middle of next week and ill get the ccw out of the way.btw, natchez had blazer on sale, 9mm was like 7.49 45acp was somewhere around 12 or 13 iirc, so check there if youre having trouble only took a couple of days and now i have two nice cases of ammo on my shelf.

I'm looking to purchase a handgun soon. Something inexpensive, first time gun. PM if you have anything
11/8/2008 2:00:52 PM
went blasting today. ammo at walmart is already 10-15% higher than a month ago
11/8/2008 4:13:48 PM
I grew up hunting with a gun I recently inherited from my grandfather. My grandfather always said that my grandmother had paid WAY too much for it when she bought it for him as a gift... I never had a real clue as to the ball park until I went skeet shooting and got curious.http://www.gunsinternational.com/detail.cfm?id=100062244&string=cid=50I heart my shotgun... it's purdy
11/8/2008 9:01:59 PM
^^^First time gun I'd get a .22, like a Browning Buckmark, just so you can get used to everything with a lot of cheap plinking, then move up to a 9mm, if you're interested in concealed carry on a budget I'd recommend the Kel-tec PF-9, but as a first gun it might be more than a little difficult for you to adapt to[Edited on November 8, 2008 at 9:04 PM. Reason : ]
11/8/2008 9:04:12 PM
^yeh, I was told that a .22 is good to start on, but when I buy something, I'd rather have something a little more beastly.I'm training on a .22 right now, so I'm hoping something above that won't be too bad as a first gun
11/8/2008 9:07:53 PM
im a glock fan. just get a 9mm and its cheap to practice with and enough of a step up from .22 to not be useless. Glock 19 is a great gun and you really cant mess it up, its easy to field strip and reasonably priced for reliability - about 485 at pdhsc. a lot of guys like the springfield XD so you could look at that too, also a great gun, i just prefer glock. just get whatever youre comfortable with and shoot a lot and youll get used to the gun pretty quick. regardless of caliber. i would just say for a 'first' gun just steer away from more complicated or inherently expensive platforms like the 1911
11/8/2008 9:16:44 PM
I was hoping to be less than $400
11/8/2008 9:20:49 PM
I've got a Glock 26 and a Glock 17. They're the best overall defensive handguns I've owned (Or fired honestly). I love 9mm Glocks son! You can get a Used 9mm Glock for that price ($400, maybe a tad above for a good one). At least you could before this election. ]
11/8/2008 11:01:20 PM
