what pros?

spend the money on the 18-70 if it's available. It's a very nice lens (better than the 18-55) and shouldn't add much to the cost of the kit. I just realized those three pictures I took were all taken with prime lenses. 50, 85, 50. and get the 50mm f1.8 as your first additional lens. It's small, sharp, and excellent in low light. Best part is it's under $100.

I was taking shots in Copley Square the other night and this guy walks up to me and asks what camera I'm using. I tell him its the 20D and he tells me he got the XT but he didn't like it. I ask why and he said that all the pictures come out blurry. I checked out the pictures he took and the settings he had it on. It was around 9.30pm and he was taking pictures of buildings at ISO 400, f5.6, .5sec shutter speed. I then proceed to change some settings and then snap a picture with his wireless remote. The picture came out fine I told him to not hold the camera when the shutter speed is less than 1/60th (depending on the lesn) and he should read up on how to use the camera before he wanted to trade it in.Just goes to show that having a better camera does not make you a better photographer

^^the 50mm is great for low-light concert situations, i totally agree that it's an affordable and good buyand MiGZ: congrats on the new purchase!-ZiP!-[Edited on July 4, 2006 at 12:34 PM. Reason : ]

^^but sir you DO have a better camera...lol

7/4/2006 2:41:37 PM
^nicely done man, keep up the good work-ZiP!-
7/4/2006 4:48:14 PM
thanks, man. As far as post processing goes, what would you recommend for either of those two shots?
7/4/2006 5:12:28 PM
too much pp on the first?[Edited on July 4, 2006 at 5:34 PM. Reason : ]
7/4/2006 5:33:21 PM
i don't know what "pp" is (post processing?), but it looks just a little to "glowy"...the third one is, of course, awesome
7/4/2006 6:11:06 PM
3rd pic is a winner'grats on the XT, I just hate how the thing feels when I hold it. Nikon has the comfort thing down.
7/4/2006 6:19:49 PM
i think it feels great.... I held the D50 and the XT, and I liked the feel of the XT...I guess time will tell though. You know of any good sites/books for beginner digital photography?
7/4/2006 9:35:36 PM
i forgot the site ronny gave me... flickr.com is good for people to post pictures and you learn alot in the forums. popular photography is a good mag. they have a good site as well for alot of good stuff. i say the best way to learn stuff is to keep up conversation with people who are learning, and people who know what they are talking about. go to wolf camera... they have a digital photography book for DSLRs... its awesome. gives you all kinds of info... i can't remember what it was... i just read it while i was workin.
7/5/2006 12:22:52 AM
its not cheating if i took both shots
7/5/2006 2:05:01 AM
^you put the explosion behind the people?here are 2 i took tonight:-ZiP!-
7/5/2006 3:38:55 AM
none of my fireworks shots came out all that great...they were blurred (as i'm sure the average camera users' was)...what am i probably doing wrong? i want a high(er) shutter speed (highest is 1/1000) and a lower f-stop (lowest i can go is 3.2)? with high ISO setting (mine only goes up to 800)?these were the two best, the rest were awful [Edited on July 5, 2006 at 8:47 AM. Reason : .]
7/5/2006 8:46:25 AM
fireworks are high shutter low fstop shots.use a low ISO... longer shutters, and high fstops.its HARD to do on a P&S i say you're bad ass for what you got
7/5/2006 10:49:00 AM
some pre-DSLR (thats before i got my DSLR ) that i took a couple yrs back. boy now dont i wish i would have had my DSLR then. enjoybw of that same imageand a camera phone picture of my car after some idiot decided to back up at a stop light and proceed to slam into my car. oh yeah, and nothing happened to his POS truck. I mean really who backs up at a stop light after they have been sitting there for a few. guess he was trying to get the sensors to change the lights

here are some pics from my trip to europe:Barbwire from the concentration camp Dachau
7/6/2006 1:07:57 PM
thought this was cool...university of tampa, blatant moorish influences
7/6/2006 6:41:04 PM
^^nice man, i like the colors of the first the most. its not a DSLR, right?^cool man, you could potentially play with the shadows/highlights to reduce how dark feeling the shot is.-ZiP!-
7/6/2006 7:07:57 PM
do you guys shoot in RAW mode? Sounds pretty neat
7/6/2006 8:09:56 PM
i shoot jpeg... raw takes to bloody long to deal with. i've shot raw and jpeg back to back... and i can tell "tiny bits" of difference... but not much at all.
7/6/2006 8:13:43 PM
not to mention it eats TONS of memory.....hopefully I can get some good shots this weekend when I have some free time....
7/6/2006 8:15:21 PM
get'r dun...dont' be like me... my favorite shots i took where taken within the first day of my D50 purchase... i suck at photography after the first week... i need to become rich so i can buy a camera every week.
7/6/2006 8:19:56 PM
I haven't even really taken the thing out of auto-shoot... the shots are so gorgeous i'm just enjoying it
7/6/2006 8:29:06 PM
^^ Haha. I have to say i've definately am happier with my pictures now than the first week I had my camera.
7/6/2006 8:47:40 PM
do...ci...do... OH SNAP I GET IT!
7/6/2006 8:48:42 PM
i shoot in RAW...at full 8mp 4:3 i can get about 300 pictures on a 4gb 150x sd card, and i keep a 2gb 133x as a spare...if i take more than 450 pictures without access to a computer, i'm in trouble after i dl them to my computer, i use the adobe DNG converter to conver them into digital negatives...takes up half the space without any loss of data...hard drive space isn't an issue for me, so i'd rather have it and never use it than want it later on down the road and not have it, you know?
7/6/2006 8:52:54 PM
I took 467 raw files at the wedding on sunday, filled up a 2gb card and about 1/2 of a 1gb card. raw saves me a lot of time and makes little mistakes in exposure, white balance, and other settings a lot easier to fix, then I can just batch proess to jpg for web use.
7/6/2006 8:58:10 PM
wow, i think my cousin goes to the university of tampa. that's some badass college architecture.
7/6/2006 9:03:27 PM
my girlfriend's aunt and uncle live down here and they do AWESOME custom woodworking...they were contracted to restore some major parts of the university back to the way they were in 1890's when it was built as a hotel...it was cool to walk around in there while the students are out
7/6/2006 9:07:59 PM
im headin to mexico this weekend and will be there all week. Im sure i will have some pics to post when i get back, plus my g/f has been there for over a month now and she takes a gazillion photos, so between the two of us, we should have some nice shots. be on the look out
7/6/2006 9:21:16 PM
gazillion eh? how many memory cards do you have?
7/6/2006 9:23:12 PM
^ yeah. haha i have one card, but she has like 7 cards ranging between 512 and 2 gb. plus she has her laptop with her and uploads when she needs to.
7/6/2006 9:38:00 PM
some of you guys may dig this, pictures taken through an infrared filter (i didn't take them)http://www.pbase.com/jeffreyk/infrared
7/6/2006 10:27:19 PM
its funny you should say that bigman... thats my next step in photography...damn you for posting it before i got started... i wanted to drop that on fools and make'em say "WOW RANDY IS THE GREATEST!"
7/6/2006 10:37:35 PM
some of those shots are absolutely awesome...i might pick one up my own self
7/6/2006 10:45:19 PM
i'm iffy on the IR stuff -- i suppose its interesting if its black&white... but the color just looks too odd to me. i saw some black+white stuff shot with IR before that was kinda vicious.-ZiP!-

7/7/2006 12:04:49 PM
^^^ ohh, ah sorry, i think what i must have been responding to was the auto-compression that happens when you upload them into your wolfweb gallery -- they looked pixelated, but that explains it-ZiP!-
7/7/2006 12:25:18 PM
