Not really. It seems that so long as you install them as designated by the manufacturer and don't add or remove pieces, you're in the clear.

Do BATFE letters like this have the force of law? Could some prosecutor argue that the BATFE letter's guidance doesn't comply with the NFA and prosecute someone who otherwise complied with BATFE "recommendations"?

It's definitely a reversal. Previously they said that if it's designed for arm brace use, but you put it to your shoulder, you're illegal. Now they say that it's legal.

Originally they said that how you use it doesn't matter, all that mattered was the design and intent. Then they started sending ruling letters that said it mattered whether or not you put it to your shoulder, regardless of design and intent. Now they've changed their minds again.

So after shooting this past weekend, the 147 browning was far quieter than anything else (not a surprise). It was the only 147 I could find at any of the sports shops. Looks like I will be ordering more, but probably look for federal or remington fmj's to save $$

I couldn't believe the difference the cans made for the 300 and 9mm (never been around them before I got mine). Well worth the wait!

As for the brace-letter, the way the new one was explained to me, it is ok to cheek rest it ans if it hits your shoulder in recoil, who cares... But dont even think of modifying it

what is a good gun for a beginning hunter? I am very interested in learning everything there is to know about using guns (and taking caring of them) responsibly, but the deal is that I currently live in Germany, and here you need to be an official hunter to buy a weapon. So, what would be a good starting point within the restraints of being a "hunter"?

The funny part of it all is that I had my first "official" hunting lesson when I was a kid living in NC, and I learned how to shoot with a 12 gauge shotgun while being taught how to deer hunt from my Mom's then-boyfriend (who legitimately thought that I was his son). So, I have done that before but I am not the biggest fan. What would y'all recommend? Are there similar regulations with "hunting" in the US?

I have no idea what the hunting is like over there or what you even have available but I would guess you would want to go with some sort of bolt action rifle. I would go to a gun club or whatever they call them there and talk to some people about what's available and what is a good rifle. If you were in the US I'd say you can't really go too wrong with a quality .308 but I don't even know what ammo you would have easy access to.

That helps me out a bunch! All I know is that a 12 gauge is only good for situations where you can hide and wait for somebody (or something) to be about... 25 feet in front of you.

You can shoot slugs out of a shotgun and have some decent range with those. I don't know a whole lot about it because I don't really have an interest in any hunting like that but it is something that definitely exists. If you get a good idea about what caliber and what rifles you have available over there feel free to ask some more questions and you will probably be able to get some decent advice.

In all honesty, just trying to use "hunting" as a legality for owning a gun in Europe.

I really don't like hunting as a sport, as I would prefer fishing as a "catch and release" type of entertainment/sport.

I've been contemplating welding a suppressor to an SBR build to make the effective length of the barrel greater than 16", thus not an SBR. The purpose of this would be to avoid having to complete 5320 forms for transporting the gun across state lines, as my last 5320 took 4 months to turnaround and came back rejected over a misunderstanding of state law. Any thoughts on doing so, or how to do it? The can I would use opens for cleaning from the bore end, so that wouldn't be an issue. Cleaning the gun will likely become a lot more complicated, but that's the biggest downside I see.

I just got the stamps back for two suppressors I purchased at the end of June. 10.5 months processing for a Form1 is almost as ridiculous as the 3.5 month processing time on a 5320.20 transport form. Hopefully this ridiculousness will subside after we get past the backlog from the law change on trusts from July of last year.

It was available as a LE trade in for the right price for me to pick it up.
I did some quick google research and then jumped on it.
It may have some 3 gun use, but reality is that it will mostly just sit.

i had my CZ 455 pillar and glass bedded a right good while back. i put it in the safe and haven't even zeroed it. been wanting to do some squirrel hunting, so i brought it out and took it to the range. it wouldn't fire. wasn't even denting the cartridge rims at all. it wasn't clicking as hard as it normally does when dry fired either. seemed squishy. brought it home and poured some hoppe's down the firing pin channel and twisted the bolt a bunch and it's firing normal now. i guess it was just gummed up from sitting so long. had me worried, though. now i get to make another trip to the range.

Any recommendations on a quick-access pistol safe? How are the biometric safes these days? Looking for something small, maybe wall-mountable behind a dresser or something? Something other than a box easily lifted out of a drawer.

i have not had those problems

and i can't speak to how secure the tumbler is, it seems okay enough but this is more of a keep anyone from accidentally getting to a gun type of safe and not a keep a gun away from someone committed to getting it open kind of safe. i bet if you got a pry bar in there and tried hard enough you could pop it open

gun safes offer a considerable amount of security in general, but most of them can be defeated pretty readily with a big crowbar.

agreed. I tend to use safes for 3 reasons: fire protection for documents, prevent unauthorized access, prevent easy / crimes of opportunity.

speaking of which, I'm now also in the market for a new small safe. my previous safe is a bit too small now (may be 1.2 cu ft) and was a bolt down. I'd prefer something in the 2 - 3 cu ft range, but bolted to a wall (new floors so I don't want to be drilling holes). I don't have enough room for a floor safe that doesn't bolt down / weighs enough to not be an easy target.

SentrySafe is garbage as far as security goes against pry bars, but would otherwise fit your need. I saw one at BJs for about $200 that meets your requirements.

A Robeson county sheriffs deputy called me last fall in the middle of the night to tell me he’d recovered a pistol with a serial number that I’d reported stolen in 2012 and wanted to confirm the report. It was accurate, my psycho ex stole a lot of my stuff, including that pistol, a ruger mkII bull barrel .22 target pistol. It stayed at the sheriffs department for a long time, I started calling once a week after the court case. They finally called me back and released it to me last week. I was pleasantly surprised, the gun had been very well cared for, cleaned and oiled, no rust.

Thanks, I’m really excited to have it back. It was my first gun, my 14th birthday present. I used to wait for dad to get home every day so we could shoot at one of those plinker self resetting targets. We’d go through a 555 round brick of ammo every week or so. It’s also apparently become decently valuable, dad paid $200 for it brand new and I’m pretty sure I could sell it for three times that (not that I would)
