yeah, but then you can't put a real stock on it and put it against your shoulder

Did you see my two stamper on the last page? It ran for two years as a pistol with a sig brace or shockwave blade.Barrels aren't that cheap yet, and you may end up having to change hand guards with a new barrel as well. Build it as a pistol with the Shockwave blade and run it like that till you stamp it. They are so light (9mm pistols) that you really don't lose much by not having the traditional stock. I had a 16" 9mm upper and promptly sold it when my 5.5" upper was finished.

I can't decide if I want to go SBR 9mm AR or SBR a CZ Scorpion. After getting my pistol can I can see the appeal, looks fun as hell.
12/16/2016 12:52:10 PM
Have you handled the CZ? It is way heavier than it needs to be. I would do my glock mag AR again in a heart beat. Plus mag commonality is hard to beat.

^^, when I originally built it, the ATF was saying shouldering was just fine. Though I didn't miss anything by 'not' shouldering it.

Just an FYI for those in The Caroline's who may care about such things:CarolinaShootersClub.com which was one of the predominant regional firearm forums was sold from local ownership to a media group who is Canadian owned and based in San Fransisco CA. They are an add based revenue company, and this was done without the knowledge or input of the people who had paid memberships to the site, and against the original foundation of the forum. I installed a tactical walls shelf unit this week, and so far I've been impressed with it. The RFID lock mechanism works better than I expected, and the hydraulic lowering is very smooth. I may decide that it's time to change out the Eotech I have on my defense carbine for something like an Aimpoint with better battery life, but I like the viewing window on the Eotech.
12/31/2016 1:11:22 AM
Have you considered the Trijicon MRO? That will be my next pic.I had an Eotech XPS2.2I have:Aimpoint H-1Trijicon TR-24 1-4xTrijicon RMRVortex Strike Eagle 1-6x4x Primary Arms Micro dots of various generations
12/31/2016 1:06:34 PM
I've thought about getting an RMR for my FNP-45 tactical, but I'd never considered putting one on an AR platform. They seem kind of small.I have an Eotech XPS2 and a 512, and all of my other AR platforms have 3-8 glass on them because they're zeroed at 200 yards for varmint.I am interested in building another SBR AR with a low variable power scope like the Vortex strike eagle or a leopold vx-r 1.25-4 optics setup. How do you like the Vortex? Everything else I own is either Leopold or Zeiss, but the strike eagle I checked out at Cabelas last time seemed very clear. I've heard not-so-stellar reviews from some Leopold fans I shoot with though, so I'm afraid I might be the same way.I haven't even decided on which round I'm going to build the gun around, so that optics decision may change.
12/31/2016 8:13:56 PM
I had the RMR on my AK. It is great for being light, and is still very, very fast for close work. The draw back for all open emitter optics, and exposed glass, is rain/mud. It will make them completely useless in a heart beat. So, great for game guns, crap for when your life could depend on it. I handled 3 vortex strike eagles before I bought mine. I don't have any shooting time behind mine, and my ranges are all under 120 yards. The glass is incredibly clear for a 'cheap' scope, and I'd say it has better light transmission then my Trijicon, though 25 vs 30mm bodies. I've never owned a leopold scope or many scopes for that matter, so I can't comment on brand quality, but negative reviews from actual owners seem few and far between on the Strike Eagle.
1/1/2017 8:57:56 PM
i checked out a friend's strike eagle and it just seems really heavy for what it is
1/1/2017 9:08:48 PM
My dad has one and it is definitely heavy but if that's not a concern it's a pretty solid scope for the price
1/1/2017 10:18:11 PM
weight is definitely a consideration - the one I played with was attached to a plastic demo gun, so it was difficult to determine how much the scope weighed. Sounds like I need to do more research then.

I'm thinking about getting a 6.5 CM rifle mostly for a light weight hunting rig for next season and possibly some long range plinking from time to time. Any reason to look elsewhere? Not in a rush given a lot of time until deer season but might as well start dialing things in now.
1/1/2017 11:43:43 PM
if i was gonna get into the 6.5 game (well, other than the 6.5x55 mauser i have), i would go with the .260 rem[Edited on January 2, 2017 at 12:03 AM. Reason : but if i didn't handload, i would go with the 6.5 creedmoor]
1/1/2017 11:56:48 PM
Yeah that's the weird thing about the 6.5 CM, doesn't seem worth it to reload. Seems to outperform my 308 in most every way though, I'd like to shoot 500+ yards now that I have some space to do that but also have a light hunting rifle that doesn't kick like a mule.
1/2/2017 8:30:19 AM
yes, it will definitely outperform your 308, but so will 260. ballistically speaking, it's the same bullet with more case capacity in the 260, which gives the 260 a slight edge and a little more flexibility for the handloader. they both go in a short action. they throw the same bullet at the same velocity. both fit the AICS mags.supposedly, the whole idea behind the the creedmoor was to have long range match grade factory ammo on par with handloads. hornady could've just done the same thing by offering a really good factory 260 load, but instead they partnered with some big names and created a bunch of hype over copying ballistics that the Swedes were shooting in world war 2 (under Finnish banners). big whoop. but they were smart enough to know that rolling out a quality 260 factory load wouldn't sell rifles. it wouldn't entice hunters, most of whom had never even heard of 260 or even 6.5x55. it wouldn't get folks to change to 260. until fairly recently, american shooters have had an aversion to "metric" chamberings, but with the tacticool movement, they've all gone from saying 308 and 223 to 7.62 and 5.56. the creedmoor hung the cutting edge "6.5" out front and it doesn't have that nasty "remington" behind it. this is all kinda goofy, but cartridge naming is all about marketing and can make or break a cartridge. same reason they changed 300 whisper to 300 blackout. also notice that they used the tacticool three letter acronym recipe with "AAC" instead of "remington", which are the same company now. the 6.5 creedmoor was marketed extremely well.anyhow, what 260 does do that 6.5 creedmoor doesn't is offer some flexibility to the handloader. practice brass is cheap and easy to get. just neck up 243 or neck down 308. lapua makes 260 brass now and it doesn't get any better than that. shellholders and some other tools/accessories are interchangeable with the 308, so most long range guys would only need a set of dies. add in the slight edge in case capacity and the choice is clear to me.[Edited on January 2, 2017 at 9:55 AM. Good information, thanks. That's why I posed the question here. I will definitely look into the 260

Picked up a shorty upper for my SBR. On sale from PSA for $340, now just need to add the ancillary components like a hand stop, and an optic. It is a 7.5" with 9" rail, and the existing upper is a suppressed 11.5".
1/31/2017 7:26:05 PM
The downside to living in MD - I can't SBR a rifle under 29" anymore.

got a Walther PPQ M2 9mm (4") today, my first handgun
3/11/2017 9:58:40 PM
Not a bad choice. Though, I like the older, H&K style mag release they have on the earlier iterations of that gun.
3/12/2017 2:56:36 PM
^,^^ I am really liking my PPQ M1 so far. Love the Euro paddle mag release, but it hasn't quite gotten the attention that it deserves since I also purchased a P226 MK 25 around the same time. Can't wait to get out and shoot my new AR.
3/14/2017 7:51:02 PM
Okay so bear with me on this question.I inherited an old 22 revolver from my grandfather when he died. To my knowledge its not registered or anything like that. Am I supposed to have some type of paperwork for it? I know you need a purchase permit to buy one...

So my form 4s finally got approved. Now that I have cans in hand, what kind of ammo can I run through them?Obviously subsonic gives better result, amd the manufacturer suggests not using hand loads (I rarely do anyway). But they also say to use FMJ-im fine with with that for target shooting, but I keep all my magazines loaded with HP for personal defense, and would like to practice with that too. This is for 9mm,. 300blk amd 223 btw...
4/14/2017 12:38:16 PM
just about any manufacturer says not to use handloads. it has nothing to do with functionality and everything to do with covering their ass from a legal standpoint.
4/14/2017 6:20:03 PM
^^ no jhp is for liability. If you hit an obstruction it can open up and cause more damage to the can. There is no functional problem running jhp in a can as long as you aren't running it wet.
4/14/2017 7:55:38 PM
So pretty much I can run whatever I want through them, no problem (I dont reload so it will all be commercial)Any recommendations on ammo yall like? For 9mm, 300blk, and 223
4/16/2017 4:04:35 PM
9mm? Blazer or Federal imo.
4/16/2017 4:27:45 PM
I've got Lehigh defense expansion rounds in my 300 blackout for personal defense, and Hornady for 110gr rounds. I'll buy whatever's cheap on gunbot for mindless plinking. For 9mm and 223, I'll run whatever's cheap in bulk.
4/16/2017 5:51:33 PM
shoot the cheapest ammo you can find
4/16/2017 6:25:30 PM
get 147gr ammo for 9mm, as it's subsonic and a lot quieter to shoot.
4/17/2017 2:18:52 PM
147g is usually expensive though
4/17/2017 4:10:57 PM
I would recommend using the same weight and load characteristic ammo (e.g. +p) for practice as one would choose as their for-real load. For example, in 9mm, 124-gr FMJs for range use with 124-gr Federal HSTs. Not suggesting anything else is wrong, but I like consistency with the weight and recoil.[Edited on April 17, 2017 at 5:19 PM.
