LOL dtownraleigh is usually pretty smart. Got trolled hard. How embarrassing

Trolled? iPhones are bending in front pockets
9/27/2014 11:48:16 AM
no, they really aren't. unless you want to believe they are based on what some trolls on reddit conjured up.

thats an after the fact joke, bend gate didn't start because people bent their iphones because they thought it was a featuredid you seriously think that's what started it? sounds like you got trolledseriously, how did you think that's what caused it? the link you included even had dates, those posts are from the 24th and that's after this all became news (macforum posts were on the 21st, if not before). and you shouldn't even need dated to understand that they are taking advantage of the situation to try to make a joke and troll others. wow. I hope somebody just isn't sitting around with a $750 phone bending it on purpose for youtube hits. I guess maybe they're claiming it with their little phone insurance.
9/27/2014 9:15:47 PM
Interesting, the wired review mentioned the ease with which it bent as well. I'm not a big fan of apple products in general (ditched my iphone 3 for a droid and haven't looked back), I think product quality has really gone to shit in the last 5 years especially. Innovation is pretty non-existent as well. From what I can tell it's really the robust app market and the "fashion statement" marketing that's carrying apple. Anecdotally I know very few people who have gone from an iphone to a droid and then switched back.
9/27/2014 10:10:49 PM
Annecdotally, I've had my 6 plus in both my front and back pocket since I got itt and my fatass hasn't even come close to bending it, even in work pants, much less cargo shorts that show off my fat ass. Annecdotally, me and all my friends jumped shipped from Android circa 2012 when all our Android phones were pieces of shit because of force closures and piss poor performance and hung on until the 6+ and we laugh at everyone else with a shitty Android that has an awful video camera.

yet they still have a decade old grid of icons as their interface that require you to constantly jump between apps[Edited on September 28, 2014 at 12:01 PM. Reason : but hey, its parallax now!]

have you even held an iPhone in the last 3 years?

i owned one until not long ago

they aren't really widgets though. i was excited when i heard the news, but they are not actually widgets in the common understanding of the word. they basically just integrated one of the most popular jailbreak features and made it part of the OS, and that's good, but they aren't actually widgets

9/29/2014 12:25:37 AM
My 6 gets worse reception than my 5s did. There are places I would get 4g with my 5s but only get 3G with the 6. In addition, the wifi drops a lot. Even after 8.0.2
9/29/2014 8:01:28 PM
i PHONE 5s ATT unlocked. 400 bones. Any takers?

^^ point loads don't represent real life, your pocket is a distributed load. the iPhone does well on point load tests, but because of the weak point in the reinforcement for the volume button and sim card cutouts, fails in real life with a distributed load like a tight front pocket. that's why iPhones have bent in pockets but HTC One's have not.read the thread, this was already responded to

For people with the 6, how has your battery life been?I realize it wasn't supposed to be much of an improvement over the 5s, but from my first couple days what I'm seeing might actually be worse. On a day with the exact same usage pattern as with the 5s, the 6 has only about 10% more battery than my 5s, which was a year old. Since the battery life drops drastically after the initial few months, I'm thinking that in a year the 6 battery will actually be doing worse than the 5s.Anyone else noticing this? Should I take it to Apple?
9/30/2014 9:19:01 AM
I have had no trouble with the battery. I consider myself a heavy user and I only fully charge every other day.
9/30/2014 9:24:27 AM
What's heavy? You have the 6 right, not the 6 plus? Here is my day: Wake up fully charged, listen to music (not streaming) for roughly 45 minutes, get to work, battery at 97%. While at work I have bluetooth and wifi connected, streaming Spotify all day. By the time I left work I was at around 30% ... 5s at around 20% generallyso streaming music, wifi, and bluetooth for around 8 hours total...other than that pretty minimal usage[Edited on September 30, 2014 at 9:37 AM. The slo mo camera looks pretty sweet. The time lapse looks completely impractical.
9/30/2014 10:00:09 AM
Video quality on the 6 Plus is incredible. I was at a show the other night with really loud bass and crappy light conditions and the video clips I shot sound and look fantastic. Most other smart phones can't handle a lot of bass when recording and sound like absolute shit. iPhones are definitely great PS cameras. DSLRs though? Naw. Not yet anyway.
9/30/2014 12:25:52 PM
Battery life has probably been a bit better than my 5
9/30/2014 12:42:33 PM
9/30/2014 12:44:55 PM
Yeah the camera still sucks compared to a decent point and shoot.
9/30/2014 1:08:24 PM
Ok, so it's been a couple years since I've weighed the options...do I go w/ a square trade or roll the dice? I'm assuming the most common move would be cracked glass...what would that cost to replace on the 6?Looking at $100 sunk in ST & $175 if I have to actually use it. I gave away $100 last time....(I don't use a case)
10/1/2014 5:08:25 PM
I had SquareTrade on my iPhone 5, and I had to get it replaced. It was a breeze. Just got it fixed at the Crabtree store, and they reimbursed me. I got it again for the iPhone 6.
10/1/2014 5:24:32 PM
The going rate to repair 5/5S screens seems to be around $100-110. The 6 will be a little more out of the gate but once those repair people learn to do it quickly i imagine the cost will be about the same. I have never bothered with ST and probably won't with this next phone either.
10/2/2014 10:21:36 AM
mine was actually a battery issue, apple wanted $79 to get it replaced
10/2/2014 11:19:33 AM
how much is ST on it?
10/3/2014 4:15:47 AM
$99 I think. $49 deductible and four replacements over the 2 years.
10/3/2014 8:10:00 AM
Shop around. There are ~40% coupon codes out there for ST.
10/3/2014 10:45:22 AM
what the HELL is square trade?!
10/3/2014 11:53:05 PM
I really like the form factor of the iPhone 6 hardware (beautiful and solid), and the camera is pretty as always--I'm just not sure I would like ditching my Google services to join the Apple ecosystem.
10/4/2014 3:22:15 AM
Depends on what you value I suppose. I was not a big fan of Apple until about 1999-2000. Anyway, I don’t like the idea of a company that makes money off of my data/advertising having access to everything that I do on my phone, so Google was out. I understand they provide some nifty services though, so to each his own.
10/4/2014 1:50:49 PM
I guess I don't buy much into the claims that either company has your "interest at heart" when it comes to data, and I don't think one offers particularly better security either.
