^^no I didn't. Still wouldn't mind trying it. I found that I preferred something a little smaller like the m&p 9c

Looks like I'm getting another suppressor for my ARs. I was trying to sell my wood lathe, but I was offered a new Gemtech Halo that is still sitting at a dealer. It will be transferred to me instead of the original purchaser and he is covering the stamp as well.Hard to say no to a 'free' can, even if I'm not getting the cash from the lathe.

Finished my long range AR. Should be good to 400y with no problems. Barrel maker says most people are seeing 1/2 - 1/3 MOA.

Nice DMR style rifle. Who makes the barrel? 18 inch rifle gas?

^^Get rid of that crappy PEPR mount and save like 80oz in the process by going with Aero Precisions 30mm extended mount. Its only 3.7oz. I had PEPR and could not believe how heavy it was.
12/11/2015 10:02:52 AM
pew pewfinally got my can, cant wait to shoot it

Nice 2 stamp.

Thanks man, I'm hooked now. My wife and wallet are not happy
12/12/2015 3:03:41 PM
i like the DNZ extended mount. i think they call it the Freedom Reaper.
12/12/2015 10:00:54 PM
The PERP mount was cheap, and I had store credit from when I got the scope, so it was essentially free. The only complaint is weight, which isn't a huge concern on that rig.
12/13/2015 9:22:08 AM
I do need a lighter weight mount for my SPR, I am using the PEPR as well and want to use it for 3 gun but it is fucking heavy. Doesn't help that it has an 18" ultramatch barrel but I guess if I can save some weight elsewhere it's worth it. Probably going to get some new glass for it too because it isn't really setup well for competition.
12/13/2015 10:24:08 AM
check out the DNZ, dude. machined from a single billet of aluminum and made in Sanford, NC.
12/13/2015 11:40:48 AM
That DNZ is nice, but I swear by these Aero Precision mounts. I mean a 30mm extended mount that weighs 3.7oz. Hell that PEPR weighed like 50oz or something crazy like that right?
12/13/2015 5:56:23 PM
The pepr weighs 8.7ozQuite a bit, but not as bad as you are making it out to be. [Edited on December 13, 2015 at 7:21 PM. Reason : .]

my dad has a mauser that his dad got in WW2i think it's a german 8mm...which would make it a k98? i don't know much about thisanyway, he used it for hunting a long time ago (20 years?) and has expressed interest in getting it cleaned up, adding a scope, and getting back into huntingi have two questions:1.) any recommendations on a gunsmith in the raleigh-durham (and outlying) area you have used who you think would do a good job cleaning it up? i don't think it's in bad shape or anything, nor do i think it's broken, i think it's just been unused for a long time (though kept in the house in a climate-controlled environment)2.) regarding the mount, is "weaver" the most prevalent mounting system? i'm looking for adapters/converters and want to make sure i google the right words
12/16/2015 10:37:49 AM
if it isn't already sporterized or drilled and tapped for a scope, don't do it. leave it alone and buy a cheap hunting rifle. good bolt action hunting rifles that are more accurate than that mauser and are already setup for a scope are available for under $300. don't ruin an old war horse.if it's already sporterized, then roll on, i guess.
12/17/2015 9:11:01 PM
I've got a Saiga 7.62x39 that hasn't been shot much and is still in the sporting configuration. I've been wanting to do the AK conversion on it for a while but I've never gotten around to it. It also has occurred to me that to do a good job on the conversion I'm looking at a non-trivial investment in time and tools. I'd need to cut a whole for the grip nut, install a trunion, thread the barrel for a muzzle device, refinish the receiver, etc... I'm thinking that I'm probably better off in just buying an AK and selling this thing. The PSA AKs look nice and they're cheaper than anything Arsenal makes. Anyone have a good idea of what I could get for my Saiga and if it would make things cost effecting to just buy something already done?
1/20/2016 11:33:11 PM
AKs seem to be going for $6-800 with a few going higher than that. I know 4 or 5 were for sale on Carolina Shooters Club not to long ago. I would personally just buy a new one already converted.

Skywalkr, how do you like the omega? I've got a saker and it's been pretty great so far.Thinking about picking up an MPX or a Scorpion, but need a can to go with it.
1/21/2016 9:55:33 PM
Anyone ever use a 1 o'clock offset rail to mount an unmagnified red-dot optic alongside a top-mounted magnified optic on an AR-15? Just curious if anyone has tried this and found it either cumbersome or useful.
1/22/2016 8:46:28 PM
some 3-gun folks use them
1/22/2016 9:08:31 PM
^^^ I love it. Super quiet on my .308 bolt gun and quiet enough on my AR's in 5.56. I want to get a scorpion or MPX as well and SBR it but first I think I'm going to get the Rugged Obsidian 45 can. Seems to be about the best thing going right now except maybe the Dead Air Ghost-M and those might be a wash.[Edited on January 22, 2016 at 9:09 PM. Reason : ^^^^^^^^^^]

^^^ what magnified optic and red dot are you looking at? What is the intended purpose?I tried running a microdot on an offset mount (after experimenting with irons on offset mounts, in addition to a 3-9x scope. The technology has improved significantly since then, but it added a lot of weight. Weight hurts maneuverability. There are multiple companies that have a small rail section integrated to the front scope ring cap for a miniature red dot. Trijicon makes a mount for their RMR to ride the ACOG. In my experience, it is faster and more natural to look over the primary than it is to twist the rifle.[Edited on January 22, 2016 at 9:45 PM. Reason : .]

I run a 1 o'clock iron sight on my AR, with a top mounted red dot. LOVING it.
1/22/2016 10:25:12 PM
^ and ^^Just some background: I currently have only (flip up) iron sights on a DDM4V4 utilizing a 50-yard zero. My eyesight is not so great and wear progressive lenses. I can shoot reasonably well out to 50-yards with the irons, but at 100-yards, a standard 100-yard small bore rifle target bullseye becomes a challenge to sight well. The Burris AR-F3 (Fastfire III) or EoTech 512 are red-dots I have investigated. The Burris AR-332 or similar for a 3X optic: the former has a picatinny mount on the top so that a small unmagnified red-dot might be mounted above it. DD makes a 1 o'clock mount as I described, so I was curious if anyone here had any experience using one.
1/22/2016 11:07:42 PM
^Never would have guessed, well done. Anyway, I love Eotechs. Really really easy to shoot with, very precise with the 1MOA dot. Both eyes open shooting and parallax free makes anything from 0-200yrds very easy to hit.Dont have experience with the Burris (even though they make high quality gear). I generally dont like fixed 3x optics, not really good for close or far away. Might I suggest a 1-4 illuminated optic? Burris makes the Mtac, which is a 1x-4x scope. 1x with illuminated dot can be shot *almost* as quick as a red dot/eotech, but crank it to 4x for targets over 50yrds/hunting. I have one on my AR, and I love it. It can do many different things.
1/23/2016 7:43:03 AM
A FF3 in an offset mount would probably function well, as long as you aren't in the rain. Water on the emitter or lense makes it useless. I would never put an Eotech in an offset mount. It is to big and heavy for that. Point of information, the Eotech is not truly parallax free, and are offering full refund returns currently for those who feel they were misled. Also, if you have polarized lenses, the reticle in an Eotech will vanish if you change your viewing angle. This can be a problem with some prone, barricade, and non standard shooing positions. If you do moving and shooting stuff, like 2/3-gun, a fielded plus offset red dot would be ok, but I would recommend something like this:http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-strike-eagle-scope-1-6x24-ar-bdc-reticle.htmlIt is receiving extremely high reviews from the people who use up high end scopes regularly. $320 for the scope, spend $1-150 for the mount, $60 for a cat tail/ switch view lever You then have both eyes open shooting at 1x, and an easy ability to dial up the zoom and make your precision distance shots. As far as the DD offset mount, I have owned them. They are well made pieces, and you won't have issues with them. Another option:A micro red dot and flip to side magnifier. You then get a 2-4 MOA dot, and the magnifier can be flipped over or removed when not needed. This is additional weight, but something to consider. [Edited on January 23, 2016 at 8:56 AM. Reason : .]

Thoughts on a sparrow suppressor? looking to getting one not sure if I will go trust or personal. I have other reasons to do a trust long term.
1/25/2016 7:57:24 AM
Only thing I didn't like about the sparrow was the first round pop, if I get a .22 can it's going to be a spectre II (unless they come out with a better one before I get one)

I just found out that Lawman's isn't doing any non public safety firearms sales for the foreseeable future.
1/26/2016 1:54:03 PM
^Any word on the reasoning?
1/26/2016 3:34:36 PM
^ They were bought by Safariland and it's a decision made by those folks. There's some legal or business reasoning involving how the FFL is used behind the decision. The store clerks I talked to didn't know a lot about the "why".
1/26/2016 4:56:07 PM
they were dicks anyway. there is no shortage of gun shops staffed by douchebags. whatever shall the gun buyer do?who buys guns in a gun shop nowadays anyway?

So been trying to read up on SBRs and tax stamps and it seems my only option for the foreseeable future is a gun trust as the sheriff isn't signing off. I've read there are some changes to these trusts but can't seem to find much on that and the DIY ones seem questionable. Anyone have any solid/current advice? Also saw that the ATF ruled to no longer require CLEO signatures. Still confused.I just want my dang suppressed SBR already.Edit - Wake County and more questions[Edited on January 27, 2016 at 11:41 AM. Reason : .]

In about 5 months, the Cleo sign off goes away, and fingerprint and background checks for trustees starts.I have a couple trust templates that I am happy to provide. They are what my dealer provides to people if they want them. I have never had a problem with my trust and your timeframe will be whether you want to have them in your name or not/ the pros and cons of a trust. [Edited on January 27, 2016 at 12:19 PM. Those are some sweet shooting guns. Had a buddy who used to restore them and they were a lot of fun.
2/5/2016 7:54:29 AM
they're about the perfect size and they handle like a dream. the straight pull design is really cool. the cartridge is about the same as .308. if it had a peep sight mounted way back near the heel of the receiver, it would arguably be the perfect military bolt action. can't wait to get this one to the range.
2/5/2016 3:47:27 PM
i will probably put some Mojo microclick snap sights on it. have them on my swedish mauser and they are awesome. the mauser does 1.5" groups at 100 yds with my handloads and me behind the mojo sights. it would probably do sub 1" with a scope.

https://goo.gl/photos/G71cGK8koaHcchCH9finally put my 1911 back together after having it duracoated. added the VZ grips. poor man's sig scorpion i have some dawson precision fiber optic sights for it, but the front one was too small for the dovetail on the slide. gonna have to talk to dawson and figure that out. also would like to upgrade the mag catch, mainspring housing, and ambi safety. those things and a trigger job and i should be done with it.

Nice, looks good, did you do the coat yourself? My P220 needs some love. I think it was an old police service pistol.
