That's a hell of a story; thanks for typing it up.I think we're gonna have to start a "Storytime with Restricted thread"...but just continue to drop em in here for now plz How the fuck did that guy pick up such a large mean dog without getting hurt? That's pretty fucking impressive.]

The dog was wrangled out of my car and placed in the care and custody of the animal shelter.
5/9/2014 6:22:31 PM
Good story... the discrepancy between the 2 posts made it even funnier.
5/9/2014 6:58:06 PM
Knarf has good stories too, but no one wants to hear
5/9/2014 7:54:59 PM
I want to hear them, Knarf!
5/9/2014 8:09:18 PM
Lol, wait does your patrol car have that front/back metal divider?
5/9/2014 8:13:06 PM

what percentage of officers that you know have had to shoot someone?
5/13/2014 7:55:11 AM
HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS STORY!?
5/13/2014 8:15:49 AM
Hah you never said if you took the dog to the pound or if you had to wait for animal control to show up. Without the divider would have been infinitely better a la Ricky Bobby style.

Well, it looks like only about 90 more days and I be retired as a NC LEO.
5/14/2014 6:22:26 PM
I don't care for The Police. There I said it."Roxanne" is one of the worst songs of all time.
5/14/2014 6:46:27 PM
That's Charlie Peru's favorite song.
5/14/2014 7:14:51 PM
I saw a homeless person the other day that looked EXACTLY like him on the streets of SF. I thought about going up to him, but instead I walked briskly in the other direction
5/14/2014 8:07:26 PM
Why retired?
5/14/2014 10:47:57 PM
Well unlike Restricted, I still have 22+ years, so I guess I need to carry the torch. My dum ass will stay in LE for my career. I tried the Fed side, it sucked, Im a cop till I die or retire.
5/15/2014 5:43:17 AM
I wish I still could actually retire; I'm just bailing out of this State.
5/15/2014 6:47:36 AM
The problem with cops is they only give bad news.
5/15/2014 7:59:49 AM
Is it illegal to drive with your left foot out the window.
5/15/2014 8:21:32 AM
Is it legal to turn your lights on just to go through a red light then turn them back off once your through? Definitely saw a cop do this in Charlotte last weekend and he didn't appear to be in any hurry.
5/15/2014 8:43:17 AM
^^^ Maybe if you weren't street racing all of the time you wouldn't have that issue.

I once got pulled for having no side view mirrors (jeep wrangler with doors off). that's some bullshit!is having at least a driver side mirror really the law?my mom got scared And said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air adding aftermarket mirrors that attach to the windshield frame.[Edited on May 15, 2014 at 12:15 PM. 5/15/2014 12:14:06 PM
It is a lot easier to see to the right than the left with no mirrors. I drove my jeep like that once and quickly realized that a mirror was necessary. Once I got the passenger one it sucked because that one you could ONLY see with the doors off, with the soft door in it was not visible.
5/15/2014 4:24:50 PM
After 1966 all vehicles have to be equipped with a driver side mirror.

Apparently Saturday night (~11 PM) my buddy was driving down a cut threw road that contains 3 stop signs. He lives in NoDA which is a gentrified neighborhood surrounded by the ghetto. After stopping at the first stop sign and proceeding through the intersection he noticed a police officer on the perpendicular road who proceeding to turn right to now be behind my friend. Not thinking twice about it, my buddy proceeded to stop at the next two stop signs finally taking a left onto the main road. After the third stop sign while he was pulling onto the main road, the cop turned on his lights and pulled my friend over. According to my friend the cop walked up to his cracked window and without stating the reason for the traffic stop requested his license and registration. My friend says he politely stated that he didn't consent to handing over his license and registration without knowing why he was being stopped. They ended up getting into an argument with the cop stating that he would be arrested if he didn't present the requested information; at no time informing my friend the nature of the traffic stop. Finally the cops loses patience and with back-up arriving opens my friends door and proceeds with the arrest. At no time during the arrest, my friend claims, were his miranda rights read. He was informed he was being arrested for refusal to cooperate with a police officer and overheard the arresting officer tell one of the cops that showed up, as back-up, that he witnessed my friend run a stop sign. The cops than proceeded to search his vehicle which I thought was illegal to do for a routine traffic stop without a warrant unless the police felt they were in clear and present danger (which would have been a No since my buddy was in handcuffs)I've been friend with the guy since I was 13 and if he ran the stop sign he would own up, taking responsibility. My question does a police officer have to inform a person of the reason for a traffic stop before they can demand their information? My friend swears you do not but I think he could be wrong. Honestly I think the officer was fishing (potential DUI, drugs catch, etc) and when my friend started making the cops life difficult, the officer fabricated the stop sign violation to give themselves a reason for the stop.[Edited on May 19, 2014 at 1:12 PM. if you get arrested they can search your car without your consent, and your friend was required to identify himself when asked.
5/19/2014 1:15:19 PM
^^Your friend sounds like a dick. I mean it's cool to know/exercise your rights etc, but if you're gonna be all dickish about it then know that shit 100%.https://www.aclunc.org/our-work/know-your-rights/your-rights-and-police
5/19/2014 1:16:42 PM
why is your friend such a d-bag? if he didn't do anything wrong just hand over the goddamn ID and registration. you guys must be a real fun bunch to hang out with.
5/19/2014 1:17:09 PM
Honestly you'd probably like my buddy Jeepin. He's a frequent at PMTBR too.Not sure what his deal was. Think he's going through a fuck the system kind of phase. I told him he should have just handed over his ID and registration.

I have always found just being honest and respectful to cops gets you much further than anything else. I have been pulled twice for 90+ in a 55 and both times received warning tickets. I simply owned up to it and apologized and told them why I was going so fast and once they ran my license and realized I wasnt a criminal let me on my way and told me to slow the fuck down.

The Carroll Doctrine would still apply. Up until a few years ago, if you were arrested on a traffic stop it was basically a free search for law enforcement. That was made moot by Arizona v. Gant (which was a bad case based on stupid police work) unless you can articulate that the evidence of the crime is located in the car. I could see if the driver acknowledged that he had a license on him or in the car but was refusing to hand it over, the officer would be justified in searching the car for that license or any documents that could identify the driver. However, the officer may have developed some sort of probable cause too.
5/19/2014 7:55:17 PM
I was responding to the NC court case he was referencing here, it doesn't apply
