I think we should bring back the Laviolette-o-meter

We should start a Grigorenko-meter

So 21 wins and some loser points along the way gets us a roughly 90% chance at 8th? I'll be damned.

What's up with column 4?
2/3/2012 3:25:12 PM
no way to finish in 4th I guess. If we get that many points, I assume we will be in the top 3 for division leaders
2/3/2012 3:28:23 PM
If we get 99-100 pts there is 100% chance we get 3rd? WTF kind of voodoo math is this?
2/3/2012 3:41:18 PM
We are in a particularly shitty division. If we get 99+ points we will likely win the division but still be behind the top 2 division leaders. This thing runs on simulations, note that out of 6.2 million simulations which I think are weighted based on current team strength/record only 2 times did the canes finish with 99-100 points. In both scenarios they finished in 3rd.[Edited on February 3, 2012 at 3:50 PM. Reason : Its mainly a fun tool that becomes more useful as the number of remaining games decreases]
2/3/2012 3:49:38 PM
Yet, 518 times we finished with 105 pts?
2/3/2012 3:58:06 PM
Still won't matter really... imo this is a team playing like a .500 team (improvement from earlier in the season) that is still too wildly inconsistent to put together any kind of streak. Has there even been a 3 game winning streak this season?

so it seems that we are going to give sanguinetti a chance. on a nine game point streak now (13 pts). If we trade allen and spacek that would make room, I suppose?I think he's going to be RFA after this season. It'd be nice to see how he does, because I have the suspicion that THE JONI will be out of here sooner rather than later. Sangs, Murphy, Faulk, and McBain might be able to cover that.
2/3/2012 11:36:59 PM
I mean, who needs more than 1 decent stay at home defenseman on the team...
2/4/2012 12:53:23 AM
Shit, 1 might be too many for our liking.
2/4/2012 10:52:59 AM
^^since you said "decent" I think Gleason fits that bill. If you said "good" that'd be a different story. I realize I'm shitting on Gleason a lot, but I think he's a good 2nd pairing d-man who is frustratingly inconsistent. Some games he and Allen go out and shut down the top line of damn near any team. Other nights, he makes Kevin Hatcher look fleet of foot.
2/4/2012 12:54:37 PM
Well that was a hell of a win! The Kings were overwhelming in the first period, I thought for sure this would be a quick loss.

A-Stew on Waivers per McKenzie.
2/6/2012 11:51:32 AM
Damn you're fast. But yeah, that's a bummer. If he gets claimed by someone else, I'd imagine it will be a big hit to the locker room atmosphere. We've just got so many mediocre (3rd/4th line material) guys on this team right now...[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 11:57 AM. Reason : -]

He goes to Charlotte.
2/6/2012 12:59:24 PM
I didn't realize they had him on a 2 way contract.
2/6/2012 1:03:01 PM
He's on a 1-way contract, thats why he's gotta go through waivers to go to the minors. If he were on a 2 way contract they could send him down without getting claimed. Sucks though, I like Stew, he just hasn't been playing well.I wish they'd try to waive Larose instead though. [Edited on February 6, 2012 at 2:07 PM. Reason : s]
2/6/2012 2:02:41 PM
(waivers have nothing to do with 2-way/1-way contracts)[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 2:12 PM. Reason : age.]
2/6/2012 2:11:57 PM
ah okAgreed on Larose. I love the guy's personality but he's massively overpaid.
2/6/2012 2:45:58 PM
Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I have to think that Ruutu will look to sign back with the Canes first in the offseason, no matter the team he (likely) gets traded to. With JR's love for all things Finnish, he probably won't shortchange him enough to make him turn down the offer, and with Jussi and Joni signed for several years, it's added incentive to come back. We desperately need top 6 forwards more than anything at this point since we have so much talent coming up in the next few years...if JR was willing to re-sign Gleason mid-season to be sure we had a defensive core, I can't see why he wouldn't want to add Ruutu to the likes of Staal/Skinner/Jokinen to build around up front. Also kind of sad...as I am typing this, I looked down and realized that with Stewart going to waivers, the only offseason acquisition we still have is Tim Brent. I guess that is to partially be expected with a change in coach/style of play, though.[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 3:14 PM. Reason : spelling]
2/6/2012 3:13:53 PM
and the fact that Brent has been playing his ass off
2/6/2012 3:17:46 PM
i bet we'll put in a claim on zach hamill
2/6/2012 3:23:47 PM
I bet they won't, because he's already been on waivers once this year.[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 3:27 PM. Reason : k]
2/6/2012 3:27:16 PM
Why? He's undersized and no better than anyone we have currently in line for a roster spot.[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 3:29 PM. Reason : .]
