no no it's a fine question. i've checked numerous times to make sure it didn't go to one of her other accounts, but the address shows her active gmail account. it has to be some sort of outgoing setup issue
4/5/2010 8:40:49 AM
ohhh... just remembered that I had this same issue from the iPhone. I fixed it by changing the smtp server. I think I even changed it to gmail's.... I forget. Might not have even been smtp but I think it was.
4/5/2010 9:48:36 AM
here's the thing- i am an absolute rube when it comes to setting up email. i have no idea (without googling) what smtp is. i figured these things (droids) should sing with gmail accounts; why shouldn't default setup work?
4/5/2010 9:58:39 AM
What kind of attachment was it? I've found that the Droid (probably the native apps on all Android devices) is ridiculously picky about what kinds of files it will download and upload.
4/5/2010 10:01:48 AM
it was a simple .jpg. i had a pic of her she wanted as an icon and i hadn't set up bluetooth just yet. but once that didn't send, i noticed no emails were going.i just tried refreshing some settings. i went into email and manually added the imap info, etc. we'll see how it goes
4/5/2010 10:08:18 AM
I thought you said you were sending it from Gmail to Gmail, though. The Email app is for connecting to an Exchange server.
4/5/2010 10:10:41 AM
argghso that wouldn't work either then? i figured if gmail to gmail wasn't working, maybe to needed to reroute around it. there's no settings within the gmail app that i could see.
4/5/2010 10:15:28 AM
Oh, gotcha. I was confused.Okay, so you're able to send and receive messages through Gmail normally, right? On your phone, like. It's just messages with attachments that are giving you trouble, right?
4/5/2010 10:16:38 AM
yes- gmails work from my phone to anything work. i just emailed my work account: sent both attachment and non-attachment. got both fine.it's ANY (attachment or no) gmail from my phone to my wife. i swear if she's got some weird setting on her end, she's gonna get popped...[Edited on April 5, 2010 at 10:25 AM. Reason : it has to be incoming on her end Ø]
4/5/2010 10:21:46 AM
since it's only hers, have you checked her spam folder to make sure that you're not getting routed in there for some reason?
4/5/2010 11:05:18 AM
^ that's a good point... i bet that's it
4/5/2010 2:31:57 PM
I dropped my Droid, the flash went off, and this is the picture that resulted:The phone's okay now, but did I capture another universe?
4/5/2010 4:24:55 PM
maybe your droid is like that ball hanging around the cat's neck in men in black? there are multiverses in our pockets and we didn't even know
4/5/2010 4:26:31 PM
well i'm pretty sure that in 7 days, everyone who reads this thread will mysteriously die

update to my email situationfinally got my wife to sit down and show me her gmail account on the laptop. i had her search for my name. the results pulled up all the emails i had sent. but the curious part was that they weren't in a folder, like spam or inbox. then i had her go to filters and sure enough, there i was. she had something like "Matches: from:'nothing22', Do this: Skip Inbox". the best part there was no second part, like skip inbox and apply label; it was just skip inbox. so my emails were just out in some void floating around within gmail, viewable only by search. i asked if she did this intentionally and she swore she didn't.thanks for all your ideas [Edited on April 6, 2010 at 8:27 AM. Anyone using Google Voice know how to make the transcripts show up more? I notice rarely does it pick up the text.. if I listen to the message shortly after it can provide the text, but whats the point then if you have already listened to the message.Any ideas on how to make GV better about showing the text?
4/6/2010 10:22:29 AM
^ Is it transcription on demand?
4/6/2010 10:42:27 AM
Tell the people calling you to stop mumbling? With the exception of people with thick southern accents, or people that mumble, mine does just fine.

A few apps I would recommend:AdAware (ROOTED phones only) - blocks all the ads... makes apps load faster too it seems because of it.Touiteur - best twitter app in my opinionGesture Search - I have about 150 apps... this makes things a LOT easier than the app drawer.Auto Memory Manager (ROOTED only) - not sure if needed, but it seems to helpHoccer - no clue how it works, but being able to send files this easy is crazyiTriage - I d/loaded more to inquire... I have used it a LOT more than I thought I would. Great way to look up symptoms and treatment for shit.NPR - I stream NPR all day, love it.SetCPU (rooted only)Root Explorer - (rooted only) yeap, even the data folder can be assessed.Swype - really hated the idea of it... but I'll be damn, it is spooky how accurate this keyboard is. its out there, google for it.Also, all signs are pointing to the HTC Incredible being sold by Verizon/Best Buy on April 29th. Pretty awesome.[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 2:41 PM. Reason : aergaerg]

Swype is freaking awesome, I still have to kick the habit of waiting in between words to see if the spelling's correct before I swype the next word.Saw the commercial for this earlier, pretty awesome:SAMSUNG Mobile And Swype Set New Guinness World Record on Mar 23, 2010New record for fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone using Swype technology on the Samsung Omnia® II™http://www.samsung.com/us/news/newsRead.do?news_seq=18302&gltype=localnewsCommercial:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XunyXL8q9R8

Yea I tried that as well...i thought maybe it was just having problems with 2.1 but I didn't see anybody else having any problems when I searched online. Oh well, I'll try reinstalling or something. Seems like it would be really useful if I could get it to work.
4/8/2010 2:15:06 PM
Could someone please share some ballpark Verizon monthly figures and configurations with me? The one-time cost of the phone I can deal with, but having to almost double my phone bill ($50 unlimited minutes, no data) is a bit hard to swallow. I know I will want unlimited data, but everything else is up in the air.
4/8/2010 3:13:09 PM
you can set up the plans on their website. The cheapest plan you can get is 450min for 39.99 + 29.99 for unlimited data. So that's ~$70 without texting, insurance, taxes and fees. Unlimited texting is $20 more. Unlimited minutes is 69.99 so for unlimited minutes/data it'd be $100.
4/8/2010 3:32:26 PM
Axelay... consider T Mobile. It is MUCH cheaper and will soon have the fastest network. People complain about the network (though I have never, ever, had a problem) and they are constantly voted best customer service (if that even matters).
4/8/2010 3:49:46 PM
you can text through google voice so you don't have to buy a texting plan
4/9/2010 8:09:43 AM
^ using GV to text is a bitch though right? Dont people have to text your google number and can you tell who is texting you? I use GV (but not a google number) and just like the text voicemails.
4/9/2010 10:41:35 AM
I have a cousin who just got a phone with unlimited texting and didn't feel like upping my plan so I gave him my google voice number and it works fine and shows his name since he's in my contacts.
4/9/2010 10:59:41 AM
Hmm.. never thought to have someone text my GV number, I thought it required some special process to get it working correctly. Cool.Of course, for $119 my wife and I both have unlimited data and text (1500 minutes) with T Mobile so I guess using GV for text is not needed at all, cool you can do it though.[Edited on April 9, 2010 at 11:29 AM. anyone going to get the "Droid Incredible" by HTC on VZW? Release date is 4/29:http://stage.phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/incredible/
4/14/2010 11:03:44 AM
^I'm still debating between that and the Evo 4G on Sprint in June. I'm not sure about being a 4G early adopter and I really like VZW's network, never had Sprint's before.
4/14/2010 11:54:20 AM
Sprint's 4G is blazing on their data cards but unfortunately their coverage is fairly limited. It also looks like the Evo may have an increased cost data plan.looks like the link got pulled. Here's the image[Edited on April 14, 2010 at 12:09 PM. Reason : ]

I would like to have the Incredible. Funds may keep me from getting one, though.
4/14/2010 12:07:46 PM
Only problem with the HTC Incredible is the Sense UI. Yes, it looks pretty but that basically means you are adding months of waiting the next time there is an update. Phones like the Nexus One will ALWAYS be first to get the latest and greatest OS.Of course, if you root your phones.... that may be less of an issue. I am a BIG fan of the EVO and love that Raleigh is 4G already.
4/14/2010 2:56:53 PM
yeah, there are bound to be leaks. There's already a 2.1 leak with the new SenseIU floating around for the Eris. After trying the Desire port on the Droid, I definitely prefer Sense over stock android. Everything just flows smoother and looks better.
