^^ They told me to send the set top box back only, no mention of a gateway swap. They don't even want the remote back...^ I watch exactly 0 of those channels, so they will not be missed.

I am having trouble with my U-Verse box. My U-Verse box is connected to my computer monitor via HDMI and to my bedroom TV via component, both need 1080i. The computer monitor does not accept component, and the bedroom TV does not accept HDMI. Well, whenever the computer monitor is turned off, goes to sleep, or changes input, the U-Verse box reverts to 480i. It is deeply annoying. Is there any way to filter out the offending control signals in HDMI without blocking the HDCP? What about chaining two HDMI to DVI adapters back to back?
7/26/2010 10:53:37 AM
Sadly, probably not. U-Verse box HDCP handshake code is complete shit! Its been known to cause severe problems with lots of brand new TV's (Sharp Aquos and Panasonic Viera I've specifically seen mentioned).
7/27/2010 11:33:15 PM
They'll be at my place in the morning to do an install. Getting TV and Internet. The installer should be pretty happy, I spent the weekend wiring the house with Cat6 all fed back into a patch panel in the closet. All he's gonna have to do is get the wire in for the RG and plug it up.
7/29/2010 7:53:03 PM
Dude installing says they'll get the upload fixed soon and if it isn't back up to near 3Mbps, to call him. They were having some problems.
7/30/2010 11:39:21 AM
That is quite a problem. The RG is supposed to be able to pull down 5mbps. If you are only getting 1mbps right now over internet, then it might become unusable once your DVR begins pulling down HD. I too also have Cat5 running throughout the house, but for unrelated reasons. Came in handy once we had U-Verse. Or so I thought; turns out U-Verse data rates over Coax are sufficient.

This is a little more like it!
8/1/2010 11:29:27 AM
^ i hate you. and twc.

^^ i hate you. and twc.
8/1/2010 12:33:50 PM
You should hate TWC for being so shitty. That's what I do.If they had anything to compete with that kind of speed, I'd consider it.
8/1/2010 4:41:38 PM
was reading that TWC will have docsis 3.0 in Raleigh by November. Maybe that will help. Looks like they are offering 50/5 in Charlotte for $99.99/mo.
8/1/2010 9:44:14 PM
For those still waiting for UVerse and want to ditch TWC internet, I just signed up for dry loop 6Mb DSL for $19.95/month for 12 months no contract.http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1020394/?start=0

So I have a question. I'm probably gonna end up posting this over at the DSL Reports forums, but I thought I'd give it a shot here first. We had a mass phone outage on our road on Monday and I ended up talking to the tech that came out to look at it for a while. He said that they were in the process of putting a U-Verse VRAD at the end of my road (approximately .7 miles from my house) He said I would easily qualify for U-Verse where I was at. Then today I was talking to another tech that came out to fix the same issue that started on monday ( but whatever) and he said that my current DSL line runs to the other end of the road and down to another DSLAM that's like 1.6 miles from my house. He said that DSLAM isn't being converted to a VRAD/getting U-Verse and that even if it was the limit is 5000 ft anyway so I wouldn't qualify. My question is if anybody knows how/if there's a way for me to get them to get access to the closer, soon to be U-Verse enabled box at the end of my road. I understand it would probably require new copper to be ran, is that something they do for existing customers? The odd thing is, I live in like the most rural, backwoods, middle of NOWHERE location, so I'm really amazed that they are putting U-Verse in at all. You'd think if they're gonna put it way out here, they'd do everything they can to get all the customers they could on it. Anybody have any ideas?
8/26/2010 12:14:27 AM
I've signed up for UVERSE, but they made me cut my TWC connection at my apt before they'd schedule an appt. Now they're showing I already have UVerse installed so I'm on day 5 of no internet. Can't wait to have it, but AT&T customer service is as bad, if not worse than TWC's.
8/26/2010 5:21:51 PM
Weird. When I scheduled my uverse install they told me to not disconnect TWC till after they were done and verified uverse was working.
8/26/2010 5:56:48 PM
^ they told me the same thing. The reason is two fold. Yes, then it isn't such a big deal when they push back your install. But it is also to stop TWC from calling you back and offering $Texas for you not to leave.
8/26/2010 6:00:57 PM
I just rolled up to a TWC office, dropped my boxes off and said. PEACE OUT. They didn't say anything lol. Then about 3 weeks later I got a check for $87.00
8/26/2010 6:19:19 PM
El Nachó - I think the limit is significantly further than 5000'. Either way, they should be able to switch you over to the new VRAD reasonably easy if you're an interested customer. DSL Reports will likely have a more solid answer though.
8/26/2010 6:37:12 PM
yeah, I started a thread over there and they said there wasn't much hope.
8/26/2010 6:50:52 PM
sooo, i'm not reading though all of this and know it's already been addressed, but...someone that's experienced both, please tell me how the HD quality compares to DirecTVthx
9/5/2010 11:02:24 PM
I temporarily have both right now. DirecTV's PQ is better. It seems to me that U-verse is a bit soft, at least on HD anyway. I really should do a better comparison though. The U-verse guide/menu is awesome though. I wish it were possible for directv to do something similar, but it will never happen.

9/6/2010 8:43:53 PM
Maybe Im blind. But how do I see how much time used/left I have on my DVR? I can see the menu with the recordings but I cant find anything that has usage stats....
9/6/2010 8:52:57 PM
^ that is such a complicated answer that AT&T would rather you not know at all, than call and ask every time they meter they gave you was wrong. That said: Menu, System Settings, System Information, System Statistics, HDD % Remaining. That gives you how much HDD space is left, but it will not let you use more than 90% of it, so start to worry if it gets close to 10%. Also, there is a show-count limit, so if all you record are 10 minute long shows in standard definition, then you can have it deleting shows even if the HDD is 60% empty. ^^^Describe? I haven't had any issues at all in my 13 months of U-Verse service ... so what did they screw up?[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 12:58 AM. Reason : .]
9/9/2010 12:57:58 AM
so, are there any sweet coups or referral bonuses out there?
9/9/2010 11:02:16 AM
as of a month ago, I can now record up to 3 HD streams at once. Anyone else?
9/11/2010 2:57:09 AM
^^^^ thanks. The path was slightly different on mine but I was able to find it.
9/11/2010 10:48:32 AM
^^ yep me too
9/11/2010 11:07:48 AM
Has anyone ever canceled their U-Verse service? What was the parting offer from U-Verse to keep you as a customer? Has anyone ever managed to get U-Verse to charge less for core services? Best I can figure, all they ever do is either offer a free upgrade or, if desperate, offer a cash back card.
10/5/2010 6:18:37 PM
They offer a better service than TimeWarner, and they know it. I haven't heard of any stories where U-Verse made an offer to prevent a cancellation.
10/5/2010 7:08:27 PM
Does anyone know about availability near Campus? I live north of Hillsborough St and the site says not available yet. Anyone close to there with service?I really wanna ditch TWC.
10/5/2010 7:31:51 PM
This is pretty cool. http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/07/atandt-u-verse-customers-can-use-xbox-360-as-a-set-top-box-startin/
10/7/2010 8:36:27 PM
^^ We get it in Cameron Court (900 block of Hillsborough)
10/7/2010 9:12:39 PM
Just upgraded to Time Warner Signature. 50mbit down and 5mbit up. Installation on the 23rd.
10/8/2010 6:01:05 PM
TWC Signature Home in Raleigh already? If so what zip code?
10/10/2010 3:30:57 PM
^^nice. but the real question is... does their service actually work?
10/10/2010 4:29:56 PM
interesting, I live right down from Cameron Court and I get nothing. boo
10/10/2010 5:25:14 PM
Sorry in Charlotte. Yeah their service works great. Have a couple friends who have it and it's a pretty constant 50/5. I'll update when I get it next week. Would have gone with uverse but its not in my neighborhood yet.
10/10/2010 7:02:16 PM
just got u-verse installedwas under the impression they had BBC HD and AMC HD, they don'tfuck that noise, canceling tomorrowfeel bad for the installer they better come out and fix the wiring though
10/29/2010 8:19:45 PM
I guess you didn't check the channel lineup at att.com.With that said, I do miss BBC HD....no more Top Gear in HD, but I guess I can torrent all the episodes.

So, I just got a note in the mail that said my rates are going up. I probably shouldn't complain because it's only $2/month, but I always get that weird feeling down in my stomach when I get notices that my rates are going up. Even if just a little.
12/22/2010 10:12:10 AM
^ I got that too. They notified me ahead of time that it is going up $4 or something.TWC would notify you by sending a bill that is $60 more than you were paying the previous month.FUCK TWC.Is there a way to search free movies on U-Verse? The only way I can find is to search by network and then click the "Free Movies" thing, but that takes forever. I'm not trying to check every single network.
12/26/2010 3:56:56 PM
^TWC's rates also went up this month. Mine went up about $5.
