Arkansas beats another top 10 team again

Madison Square Garden has a basketball capacity of 19,763. Now if you divide that by 16 teams then that means that each school gets an allotment of around 1,235. Of course the Big East has to account for VIPs and others, so we'll just put it at 19,500 for a nice round number. Making it 19,500 means that each school gets only around 1,218 tickets allotted to them. The ACC Tournament returns to the Georgia Dome this year for the second time, having first been held at the Dome in 2001. It can hold 53,000 for basketball when the dome is fully open. Miami, BC, and VT now get full allotments to the tournament. Each school would get around 4,416 if the dome is fully open. If it's only 40,000 b/c the dome is sectioned off, then it has a capacity of only 40,000, which would give each school an allotment of around 3,333. When the tournament returns to the Greensboro Coliseum (capacity: 23,500) in 2010 and 2011, each school would get around 1,958. The ACC Tournament has not had a public sale of tickets since 1966, and all tournaments since then have sold out in advance. Here's a nice article on the ACC Tournament and what it takes to get tickets from the school.http://www.tampabaysports.org/press_room/release.php?id=42

On a side note, Roy Williams, Gary Williams, and Norm Sloan all led their alma maters to an NCAA championship (UNC, Maryland, NC State respectively) in basketball. Were there any other coaches to do this?

Howard A. "Hobby" Hobson who coached Oregon to the 1939 NCAA Championship (the inaugural year for the NCAA Tournament) was captain of the University of Oregon's basketball team from 1924 to 1926.Branch McCracken coached the Hoosiers to the 1940 and 1953 NCAA Championships. He played at Indiana from 1928-30 where he played center, forward and guard, pacing the Hoosiers in scoring for three years. He was an All-American in 1930.[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 11:40 PM. Harold E. Foster played at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1926 to 1930. He was a two time All-Big Ten selection and helped lead the Badgers to a three year record of 43-8. Foster coached the Badgers from 1934 to 1959 and lead them to the school's only basketball NCAA Championship in 1941.

^yikes. all records from before when black people played the game should be disregarded
1/6/2009 11:48:57 PM
True dat. It seems Jim Boeheim went to Syracuse. This isn't as rare as ESPN led me to believe.Ed Jucker played for Cincy in the 30's, they won in '62 and '61Fred Taylor played for OSU, who won in '60.[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 12:10 AM. Reason : I'm going backwards. I'm also going to bed.]

Well to be fair Allen played at KU from like 1904-1907 so the technology for knee braces wasn't all that great.

Good game between Gonzaga and Tennessee right now on ESPN2. GO VOLS!
1/7/2009 10:44:41 PM
Wow that is actually pretty cool with the orange and white.

Who are your early favorites to make the Final Four? 8 teams that I think could make are UConn, Oklahoma, Louisville, Wake Forest (they have a crazy amount of athleticism and finally learned how to play defense), UNC (provided they get their act together), Georgetown, Syracuse, and Purdue.
1/12/2009 10:44:51 PM
Really? You think eight teams ranked in the top 20 have a good shot at the Final Four?
1/12/2009 10:53:03 PM
1/12/2009 10:58:34 PM
Who do you think is a good coach?I think Coach K is a good coach.
1/12/2009 11:02:57 PM
Dude I'm just bringing up the same type of topics that they bring up in the shows. It's not that stupid to speculate on which teams are most suited for a Final Four run this year. I didn't just spout off the teams currently ranked 1-8 in the polls. Either contribute or gtfo.
1/12/2009 11:06:23 PM
Take a chill pill, bro
1/12/2009 11:09:47 PM
I'm just being honest and not freaking out. What's so wrong with asking the question of who do you think can make the Final Four this year and then presenting my opinion on the subject? There's no need for smartass remarks.
1/12/2009 11:17:33 PM
But... that's what the internet is for
1/12/2009 11:26:36 PM
haha, true.

During the Baylor vs. TAMU game, Terry Gannon was asked by Stephen Bardo who his biggest rival was and he talked about what the rivalry with Carolina was like back when he played. He said it was the biggest rivalry in the state back then and that the players from both schools were so close that they would sometimes hang out and play pick up basketball during the summer as well as work at the same jobs during the summer.[Edited on January 14, 2009 at 10:24 PM. 1/15/2009 9:35:36 PM
one of the announcers is named whatever i put up there behind the commahe was saying that JPJ Arena is one of the loudest in the ACCi went to the state game there last year and it was like open gym night at the rec center
1/15/2009 9:37:48 PM
haha. nice. I went to Wake back when we could have wrapped up the #2 seed in the ACC Tourney during Sendek's final year, and we completely shitted the bed against them. They were one of the worst teams in the league that year. And a few days later they beat us again in the tourney. The students were decent, and I realized that the place could get loud if they had more people there that day. I think they didn't sell out the upper deck b/c they were just so bad that year. Still though I don't see how any places in the ACC besides Maryland and Duke can compete with our setup, and Duke doesn't even have students sitting behind the benches. Those seats are for season ticket holders. The only area where Duke has students is along the sideline opposite the benches, half the baseline stands down where the visitor benches are which is where the band sits, and then the whole baseline stands down where the Duke benches are. I think those stands are for grad students iirc.[Edited on January 15, 2009 at 9:52 PM. Reason : ]

Charge. Charge. Charge. Charge. Charge. At some point just level these fucking pansies with your elbows or shoulders.
1/17/2009 2:21:27 PM
I find it nearly impossible to root for DukeI want them to win because it will look good for the ACC (and will look REALLY good for us if we beat Duke on Tuesday) but damn, I cannot force myself to cheer for them. They are by far the ugliest team in the NCAA
1/17/2009 3:05:30 PM
Gotta feel bad for Greg Monroe... he was obviously a marked man today... no chance at staying in this game.Paulus looks passable today as an ACC player, which is odd..
1/17/2009 3:14:33 PM
paulus could start for us
1/17/2009 3:17:18 PM
hey in case you guys didn't know...ESPN Full Court is doing a free preview this week. Wake/Clemson starting now
1/17/2009 3:30:20 PM
Wake is taking it to Clemson right now. Damn both these teams are going to beat the shit out of us.
1/17/2009 5:02:58 PM
^going to beat the shit out of us?? clemson already beat us by 11. we don't play them again.[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 5:07 PM. Reason : ]

1/17/2009 5:22:32 PM
yes, but some mental errors by clemson allowed wake to do what they do
1/17/2009 5:26:10 PM
Pitt sucks. They score 20 points in about 6 minutes and have scored 6 in the next 11. 20-7 lead turned to 26-29 deficit.
1/17/2009 6:56:11 PM
ONIONS!
1/17/2009 8:12:41 PM
Wake should be number 1 now
1/17/2009 8:19:29 PM
No way... Duke has a far better resume. They have the 4th best SOS and Wake has like the 125th. Wake isn't even Top 10 in the RPI...DukeWakeUConnOklahomaPittsburghin that order. But we all know UNC will be ahead of Pitt [Edited on January 17, 2009 at 8:28 PM. Reason : louisville might EVENTUALLY end up the best team in the BE though... they always finish strong]
